At the time of the beginnings of this website Nairaland, Seun the owner was very much a theist.
No, I was an atheist, but I didn’t really care about persuading people.

Why the change now? That old you must have been more awesome. Really, why has it become so important to reach out to people regarding their belief in God?

It is natural to want to spread a belief which atheists, no matter how they deny have. All atheists, bar none, are materialists who onpy accet Nature exist and reinterpret supernatural wonders as eternal natural things needing no creator.

Thanks for your response bro.

But I think we can't always draw general conclusions on matters.

For Oga Seun, there must have been something that prompted the pivot.

Seun has treated that matter severally. Just search his earlier posts or use the Search. He wrote about it in earlier posts years back

Just so we're clear bro, I'm not asking to know why he became an atheist.

The question is to know why-unlike before- he endeavors now to persuade folks to tow that path.

If you got the answer, I'd like for you to quote me with it, rather than for anything else.

Many thanks.

Yeah, yeah. It will take time searching but I can summarize his reason AS I RECALL IT. Like many atheists Seun doesn't like the bad effects of religion like scientific ignorance, superstition as in some ridiculous pastor worshipping, terrorism as with Boko Haram etc. He decided at a point to man up and speak up. Methinks those jihadists on the Islam section need some dose more that Christians sha.

Well if that's it, then I'll say those reasons are unfounded and basically assumptions.

I am a Christian. I am not ignorant of relevant scientific facts, I don't have superstitious beliefs, I don't do terrorism and certainly don't idolise any pastor. And I am sure there are several other Christians who are as I am and even way better than I am.

So if those are his reasons for wanting to persuade us, then it's clear he's got the entire concept of our position really wrong, and so his persuasions are grossly unnecessary, and couldn't possibly be effective, given the faulty scope of it.

I'm not knowledgeable o. Na the small wey I get I dey use to maximum effect.
I would have loved to do one about Christ with you along the lines of arguments in this thread. You take the side of Jesus not being the Son of God and I arguing he is, or vice versa. Unfortunately, I wouldn't last more than a couple of posts. I wonder though if you've been involved in a similar argument in the past. Would love to read it, if a thread exists please.

It has always been important. I just didn't realise it earlier. I gave some reasons on this older thread

That's such a wild generalization you made there bro.

I don't know the kind of religious folks you meet, but it would have been more accurate if you said things like "some religious people are suffering", " some religions deny/rob some people of their freedom, pleasure, joy, health money..."

I am a Christian, and very very contrary to your thinking, I am not suffering, and so are not most Christian folks I know. There are people who suffer, but it's never due to their acceptance of the Christian faith. You've never met any Christian who suffers, and you never will.

Deny/Rob? If there was anything like that happening to me as a Christian, more than you, I would know, but as it is, there isn't any such thing.

Freedom to do what? tell lies? steal other people's stuffs? kill? have sex with every movie star/porn star that I crush on? with your "freedom" as an atheist, how much luck have you had banging every girl you ever fantasize about? In the end you still for the sake of sanity have to give up on most, so where is the freedom?

Waste of time? That again is a conclusion you've drawn out of ignorance.

As a student, there was a semester, I would go from class to tutorial centres to my room to really study. I barely made 4.30 GPA.

There was another semester when I went to church 7 days a week, night or day or both, and during exams, had to attend finance convention in church, thereby going a bit late for most papers. Studies on my part were at their lowest levels ever. GPA 4.89
You then expect me to conclude that church wasted my time. I couldn't reasonably do that.

Never in my life hv I seen a collection of people who so vehemently resist any comment that ascribe glory and praise to God until I joined NL. I used to believe d idea was completely foreign until I joined Nairaland and realised they almost outnumber we the believers in God the creator of all.

I am not creating this to oppose such thought process which I felt was just theoretical as I know science tend to call anything they don't have proof of Mythical.

But for an African person who has probably heard from reliable sources things that happen in the spiritual and the existence of God who does things when his followers call him in whichever name they knw him as, to still believe there is no God, goes far beyond me.
Cud there be any special reasons why so many Nairalanders are Atheists who have no affiliation to religion and doubt the existence of God

I don’t believe in hell either. I certainly don’t believe that eternal torment is the appropriate punishment for any finite crime, unlike the author of Revelation who thinks every person who has ever told a lie deserves to be burned alive for ever and ever and ever. Billions of billions of billions of years times infinity. That’s not right.
