Ibadankeys: 10yrs After ADEDIBU Demise, MOLETE Cranks Back To Economic Life ! by ibadankeys: 2:25pm On Feb 11, 2018 |
"Poverty is the WORST form of VIOLENCE" ...Mahatma Gandhi..
Molete has since time immemorial being one of ibadan's KEY commercial centres. However during the "reign" of the Strong Man/father of Ibadan politics.... BABA LAMIDI ADEDIBU, Molete was viewed by many inhabitants as an endangered/troubled corridor and many investors, start-ups, businesses etc fled this neighborhood because of unpredictable political FIREWORKS associated with Baba Adedibu brand of politics. These Exodus further created and paved way for BABA's foot soldiers/ political layabouts/thugs/miscreants etc to take over the hub's entire infrastructure including some vacant/empty private properties....Molete was thus brought to its knees...at least property investment wise.
However, Baba Adedibu was two sides of a coin....he was different thing to different people. While some viewed him as the undefeatable political leader/Messiah of the poor, homeless, touts, thugs, widow/widowers etc (as its reported that Baba feed over 300 people with Amala +Gbegeri everyday at his Molete palace),others regarded Baba as "a Political Contractor" who sells the SOUL of the state to the Highest bidder !
However which ever side of the "fence" you belong, one fact is unassailable, Baba Adedibu delivers RESULTS....even if his methods are unconventional or unorthodox. Fortunately, these is what the Nigerian political class wants....results. Molete (which houses Baba Adedibu's palatial Mansion) therefore became a political MECCA of some sort with the Nations Political leaders coming in doves to "curry" favours from BABA.
Expectedly , where you find politicans in large numbers nothing is too " sacred " as anything can happen !. Molete therefore become a " no-go area" for many. Molete thus gradually transformed from a high profile commercial corridor to political flash point with Mopols and thier operational vehicles a regular feature...expectedly rents and property values took a BASH as the fear of Molete was the beginning of WISDOM !
However since the demise of BABA ADEDIBU on 11th June 2008 (may his soul rest in peace) and decimating of his legendary political structure, many political layabouts, thugs, miscreants etc have since left Molete, thus releasing their strangulating hold on Molete and freeing same to enjoy " a breath of fresh air". To underscore the extent of their negative hold on Molete it was reported that ( shortly after Baba's surprise demise and subsequent stoppage of " stomach/amala infrastructure" at Baba's residence) there was sharp rises in burglaries incidents in adjoining areas of Oke-bola, Oke-ado, College Crescent etc.
Though the city inhabitant's perception of Molete is still abysmally low leaving " caution" in their minds, the truth is that Molete has since Baba's demise gone through a self revaluation/filtration process and has emerged as a SAFE, DEPENDABLE, PREDICTABLE prime commercial axis in the city's commercial value chain tractegory !
Most businesses that fled during the political upheavals in that zone especially during LADOJA-ADEDIBU fiasco ( which saw Baba facilitate Ladoja's impeachment ) have since relocated back and commercial/business activities are in the upwards swing. A case in point is the New multi- Million Naira Gas plant located next to NICON building just at the tip of Baba's Molete palace....such a Mega Project would have being "in concise able " 10 years ago. No " sane" investor would have tried it !!!.
Molete has always had " great latent value " being less than 2 minutes drive to the city's top commercial spots of Ring-Road, Oke-Bola, Oke-Ado, Challenge etc but the hub has never really unearth its hidden prospects. However with this new change, Molete is now a corridor to do business with peace of mind and thrive .
If you are therefore thinking of doing business in Ibadan, one of the area to consider (depending of the business) is Molete. For the NEW Molete...."its fear not".
