colonialism/kəˈləʊniəlɪzəm /▸ n. the policy or practice of acquiring POLITICAL CONTROL over another country, occupying it with SETTLERS, and exploiting it ECONOMICALLY.[Concise Oxford English Dictionary] Pls pay attention to the following words: "political control", "settlers", and "economically".There are 2 types of colonialism: external and internal.

Europeans left their own home lands, wandered everywhere, used violence and terror to gain political control over other people's lands. They became settlers in those other people's lands and occupied them. Then they exploited those people and their lands economically meaning, they used other people's natural resources to better the economy of their own tribe. They did this on Nigerian ethnic nationalities: this was EXTERNAL COLONIALISM.

That was long ago.
Nowadays Fulanis are leaving their own home lands, wandering everywhere within the country, using violence and terror to gain political control over other people's lands. They are becoming settlers in those other people's lands and occupying them. Then they are exploiting those people and their lands economically meaning, they are using other people's natural resources (land and vegetation) to better the economy of their own tribe.

They are doing this on other Nigerian ethnic nationalities: this is INTERNAL COLONIALISM. Few days ago, the herdsmen visited terror on Akure South Local Government Area Council HQ in Ondo State. The LG Ministry of Agric planted a vegetable garden at the back of the HQ premises. Fulanis took their cattle there to devour half of the garden. The head of the unit confronted them. They injured him but he managed to injure one of them. They fled only to back with reinforcement - more Fulanis with more weapons. All the staff of the council HQ had to flee for dear life. People were hospitalized.

The last time I checked, Fulanis are not Ondo State indigenes. This is colonialism, the internal variant. Last month, the same Fulanis visited terror on Osun State. They went to the Government Farm Settlement and in order to chase away the indigenous farmers and take over the land, they set ablaze 250 acres of farm plantation. Cocoa. Plantain. Yam. All manners of cash crops. Everything burned. Loss estimated at ₦100 million. Now the poor farmers have fled the settlement and they have no one to help them recover their losses or resettle them on their farms.

The last time I checked, Fulanis are not Osun State indigenes. This is colonialism, the internal variant.
Add these to Ogun State, the South East and South South states, and last but not the least, Benue, Nassarawa, Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna, and Niger States. Practically, they've internally colonized every part of the country, haven't they? End of rant.2 bonus points.

1.
For those who argue that those terrorists are not herdsmen. Why is it that cattle always destroy people's properties before violence erupts? What other type of people move with cattle if not herdsmen?

2. For those who say because it's not every Fulani person that's a herdsman, we shouldn't call this a Fulani affair. Well during external colonialism, it wasn't every European that wandered down to Africa to take slaves. Yet we call Europeans "colonial masters".
Rant finally over.
