How To Persevere In Trials (Part 2) — Pastor W.F. Kumuyi by OLAADEGBU(m): 1:55pm On Feb 20, 2018
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi's message on the Sunday Guardian newspaper titled:

Learn About End Time events - Part 1-

The Lord Jesus Christ did not leave the Church in the dark concerning events of the end-time. In response to His disciples' questions, He gave the conditions and signs that would precede His coming, which are already evidently manifest in the world. Their questions showed that they wanted to know about the future. Although the destruction of Jerusalem had not taken place at that time, the prophecy was eventually fulfilled, as the Lord predicted.

Christ's coming to take the redeemed to heaven is certain. Both the Old and New Testaments are replete with prophecies concerning His coming. The Lord's revelation to His disciples that "this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations," shows that every community of the world must be given a chance to either accept or reject the gospel before the end comes.

As believers, our responsibility is to warn sinners of the impending judgment. People, who revel in sin, as if the world and its activities will continue forever, should understand that the end would surely come. Christ repeatedly emphasised this in the Scripture. "As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just" (Matthew 13:40,49).

Current realities indicate that the end is near. Our knowledge of eschatology or events that will precede the end is not enough. We must watch and be ready, because we "know not what hour (our) Lord doth come." The order in which Christ listed the events that will precede the end shows that the next event the Church is waiting for is the rapture.

The rapture of the saints will be unexpected and unannounced. This glorious exit of people, whose names are written in the Book of life from this present world, will be heralded by a sudden sound of the archangel's trumpet. "For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first…." It is understandable then that Paul the apostle exhorted the Thessalonian believers to holy living prior to his admonition on rapture to enlighten some believers, who sorrowed almost uncontrollably over their loved ones that died as believers.

When a child of God dies, his spirit and soul go to heaven to be with the Lord. Stephen understood this and prayed to God to receive his spirit into heaven. While the soul and spirit of the rich man went straight to hell when he died, that of Lazarus went to Abraham’s bosom. At rapture, the soul and spirit of dead believers in Christ will reunite with their resurrected body to be with the Lord.

The hope of Christ's return to take saints home should make us endure trials and persecutions that come our way. Believers who desire to enter heaven must be genuinely saved and cleansed from outward and inward depravity. The rapture is the translation of God's people. Bible characters like Enoch, Elijah and our Saviour, Jesus Christ have been translated literally to heaven. The translation of Enoch in the Old Testament was a pointer to the rapture of saints. As his translation was sudden, so will the rapture be unexpected and unannounced.

Believers who desire to experience this glorious translation must live to please the Lord in their dispositions, thoughts, words, actions and plans like Enoch. Besides, there is need for personal preparation. One incident in the Bible Ollie started this well. The sons of the prophets, during the time of Elijah, had a prophetic knowledge about his translation, but they were not ready to obtain anything from him. Elisha on the other hand, requested for a double portion of his master's spirit.

The Lord is coming for a saved, sanctified and steadfast Church. And we must be prepared for this great event, which can happen any moment, by setting our "affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Every believer, who is expecting the rapture, must be watchful and sober, "looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ." Heaven, not the earth, is the final abode of saints, who remain faithful till the end.

Close on the heels of the rapture will be the Great Tribulation – a time of unprecedented suffering, devastation, damnation and doom. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not seen since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." Sinners and believers, whose love for the Lord has waxed cold, will go through this period if they fail to repent before the rapture.

The great tribulation will last for a period of seven years, characterised by suffering and trouble beyond what the children of Israel went through in Babylon or their affliction under General Titus, when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed. Prophet Jeremiah described it as "…the time of Jacob’s trouble." Indeed, the inhabitants of the earth, who reject the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, will experience great wrath from Satan, the Antichrist and the Almighty God.

However, the primary purpose of the great tribulation is to make the nation of Israel suffer, so that they will be ready for and cry to the Messiah (the Lord Jesus Christ, whom they reject at present), and to judge the unbelieving Gentile men and women of all ages. Before the Antichrist will begin to unleash his terror on the world, the Church will be taken away in the rapture. Christ will not leave His bride behind to go through the great tribulation. The suffering during this period will be so intense and terrible that hardly will anyone bear it. "And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them."

Considering the anguish and perplexity that await unrepentant sinners and backsliders, the Lord expects us to show concern and promptly reach out to them with His saving gospel. Although there will still be an opportunity for people to repent, those who receive the mark of the anti-Christ will be doomed forever in hell. We cannot afford to be indifferent and passive to the warnings of the Holy Spirit. We must hold on to the faith and the doctrines of our Lord Jesus Christ, and continue to serve Him zealously, as we expect His imminent return.

There will, however, be a great summons of all nations of the earth before God's presence for judgement. The Great White Throne Judgment will be set; it is the final judgment that God will bring upon those who neglect and reject His offer of salvation. Since the Almighty, Who knows those that truly belong to Him will be the Judge; no sinner will escape His righteous judgment. Everyone will be "judged out of those things, which were written in the books, according to their works."

Anyone whose name is not found written in the Book of life will be banished to the lake of fire together with all categories of sinners; but believers will enjoy eternal bliss in God's presence. The Lord wants us to constantly reflect on His word (doctrines) and allow it to produce the desired result in our lives. Daniel’s revelation concerning the end-time had a profound effect on him. "As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart." Since the coming of the Lord is drawing near, we must arise and labour for the salvation of the souls of men and warn them of imminent judgment.

Solving Man's Perplexing Problems – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

When things happen in life contrary to our interest or welfare, God expects us to come to Him for answers. Rehoboam did not understand why Israel, which had been united since the time of Moses, broke apart in his time.

Therefore, he sought to unify the nation again by engaging Jeroboam and the ten tribes in battle. Some Christians do not hear from the Lord before they embark on plans and projects, which they have in mind to do for themselves, family, church or workplace.

Thus, they run ahead and complicate issues.

Before the fight to recover the lost ten tribes, the word of the Lord came to Rehoboam through Shemaiah, the man of God: "Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me.

And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam." Without this revelation, thousands of people on both sides of the divide could have perished and gone to a lost eternity. Hearing from God every time gives us clear direction to follow.

The division of the kingdom was caused by Solomon's sin and Rehoboam's folly. It was punishment for Solomon and a fulfilment of prophecy through Ahijah for Jeroboam.

To resist a decree by God would be futile. When we accept the Lord's position on everything we intend to do, one, it brings peace of mind; two, freedom from worry; three, prevention of loss of life and property; four, harmonious relationship; five, preservation of true worship; six, mutual understanding; seven, practical, profitable wisdom to learn from the past mistakes. Among brethren, the knowledge of what God wants cancels fighting, strife, jealousy, envy, malice, confusion, commotion and contention.

God expects His children to bow to His sovereignty and overruling purpose. "Who will say unto him, What doest thou?" The promotion of anyone who ascends the throne of any nation is not from anywhere else but God.

"He putteth down one (like Rehoboam), and setteth up another (like Jeroboam)." The people who fight against the will of God do not understand the place of His sovereign, overruling plan. Concerning Balak's invitation to curse Israel, God clearly told Balaam: "Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed." But his greed for the reward made him to seek a permissive will for which "God's anger was kindled because he went."

It does not pay to fight against the sovereign will of God. "Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker!" It took time for Nebuchadnezzar to understand that it is pointless to strive against God's overruling purpose.

He eventually realised that God "doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?" Many, like him, could have avoided a lot of problems, if they had submitted to the Lord earlier.

We may not understand why God permits certain circumstances. Therefore, couples should not always rush to the court for divorce; business partners should not take or seek legal action against each other at the slightest provocation, and believers should not join the community to riot, or the labour unions to carry out industrial action.

When we recognise the sovereignty of God in the events of our lives, we will not fight, murmur, complain, envy others, strive or separate the family. When we understand God's purpose in our situations, we will not be proud, worried, anxious, angry, restless or unnecessarily sorrowful.

There will be no need for self-management, scheming, faithlessness, idolatry, evil devices and generational sin. We should always submit and surrender to God’s ordained plan so we do not do things that would ruin our lives.

Submission to God is a sterling quality among all the virtues of true believers.

A truly saved person knows that God is mighty and powerful, irresistible and unconquerable, immutable and immovable, most high and most holy, absolute and almighty, omnipotent and omniscient, incorruptible and incomparable, wise and watchful over all His declarations.

Therefore, submission to Him is the only wise thing to do.

Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Herod and many other powerful personalities in the Bible learnt their lesson too late that a human being cannot fight against the Almighty God.

Many people will suffer eternally for not learning this lesson. The Lord wants us to learn and be saved, learn and submit, learn and surrender, learn and obey, learn and be sanctified, learn and worship and adore Him.

We must not fight with in-laws, bosses, neighbours or members of our family. Jeroboam thought Judah’s submission to God’s instruction was cowardice.

Therefore, he attempted to fight against them for this, considering their small number. But "God smote Jeroboam and all Israel… And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand."

Those who lose their lives at the point of fighting with man or against God, His will, plan and overruling purpose will not make it to heaven.

When good people, like King Josiah, take up a fight that does not belong to them, against the sovereign purpose of God, the end is always disastrous.

He did not listen to the word of warning from God and so he died. When God is responsible for a situation, we must not fight it. "For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?"

When God told Abraham of His plan to destroy Sodom, he interceded on their behalf. Sadly, the people of Judah could not supplicate for their situation. Moses did not let God alone when He determined to consume the Israelites.

He made supplication before the Lord and He spared them. Although, we are expected to submit to God, supplication for a better state of being is also important.

We should not fail to seek God for mercy, grace, forgiveness and pardon in spite of our past errors. God could have brought the twelve tribes back together if the people of Judah had made supplication for it.

Hezekiah got a death sentence from the Lord. But he "prayed unto the LORD…And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee."

Although God may speak against us, He will still remember us if we repent of the evil we have done. "I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD." The ancient city of Nineveh was to be overthrown because of their sin, but the people cried "mightily unto God… and turned every one from his evil way…and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not."

The will of God is not for anyone to die in sin, but for all to come to repentance. Those who submit to the will of God and add supplication for better things will enjoy the promise of forgiveness for those who repent, salvation for penitent sinners, healing for the sick, deliverance for the oppressed, change of circumstances, assurance of answer to prayers, broken yokes and removal of curses for the righteous, satisfaction for the sanctified, heaven and eternal rewards for the holy and obedient saints of God.

Easter means glorious freedom from sin – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi 01 April 2018 | 3:25 am

Today is Easter Sunday, and it is widely celebrated across the world as a holiday.
Many, however, revel in the festivities of Easter without ever knowing the true essence of the day.

They are unaware that Easter is the bedrock of the Christian faith, and without it, man has no hope on earth and in the hereafter.

Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary so that men will experience and possess a glorious freedom from sin. As our Redeemer, He bore our sins, shame and suffering on the cross.

Christ was "manifested to take away our sins" because He was sinless, perfect and had no penalty or punishment to pay for.

Therefore, He only was qualified before the Almighty God in heaven to make the sacrifice for our sins and to "destroy (all) the works (properties, characteristics, attributes and nature) of the devil" in man, so we can get to heaven.

Through His perfect sacrifice, Christ forgives the penitent sinner, brings him nearer and makes him a child of God. When we are saved, Christ gives us peace, makes a change in our lives, turns us to new creatures and gives us eternal life.

Thus, being "born of God," we receive power, grace and assurance to overcome and live above sin. Compared with that of the Old Testament, we have a better covenant that is "established upon better promises."

The new covenant that Christ sealed on the Cross, and which we now have, provides conversion, redemption, freedom, a new heart, the divine nature, purity, holiness, baptism in the Holy Ghost, sonship and a heavenly inheritance.

Being beneficiaries of these blessings, we must not live like the Old Testament people so that we do not render ineffective, the ultimate and vicarious sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary.

Easter means something when a truly regenerated believer shows the evidence of the new life of the "sons of God." People around him must be truly convinced that he has become one of God's children. They do this when the life of Christ is seen in our character, comportment and lifestyle.

Our interaction with other believers in business, conversation and manner of life should also mark us as children of God. We must manifest the life of the transformed in times of temptations and trials in the family, market and workplace.

As believers, we should practise righteousness despite the evils of this present generation.

We must anticipate difficulties, criticisms, confrontations and deliberately act righteously. We must be conscious always of our status as children of God and not live, act, eat, drink or behave like the people of the world. "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."

For sinners to be referred to as the sons and daughters of God, they must "come out" from all forms of sin, repent and acknowledge Christ as the only Saviour. The Holy Ghost then bears witness of their salvation, which is confirmed by the assurance in the heart. The Spirit of God leads the believer and he no more lives the old life.

Those who are still led by the spirit of the age, the world, Satan, the natural man, anger, fighting and violence are not children of God. Only those whose lives have been taken over by "the Spirit of God… are the sons and daughters) of God."

He controls our actions, words, intentions, friendship and relationship, "that (we) may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom (we) shine as lights in the world."

We should be very thoughtful in our behaviour and actions, so that we do not harm others.

Transformed sons of God are led on the path of grace and glory. They are obedient to the truth and love others "with a pure heart."

Easter means glorious freedom from sin – Part 2
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
08 April 2018 | 2:01 am

The purpose of Christ's manifestation from glory was to "take away our sins." He suffered, bled and died to bruise Satan, destroy the power of the tempter, pay the penalty for our sins, put an end to sinning, provide everlasting righteousness, purify and make us ready and fit for heaven. He also heals us from sicknesses and delivers us from oppression completely.

The believer's salvation implies he is saved, delivered, rescued, and taken away from sin and the sin taken away from him. Those who still manifest sinful tendencies are not saved. The reason for the manifestation of Christ has not been fulfilled in their lives. Saved Christians should ensure that having been redeemed, they must "sin no more" but love the truth, holiness, godliness and the word of God. Christ also sanctifies and purifies saved believers. He "gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." Those who are sanctified do not live in the flesh, defilement and evil. When one comes into the light, he experiences a total transformation of life.

Though people like Enoch, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, Ruth, Elijah, Mordecai, Nehemiah, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were under the old covenant, they lived righteously. Christ is manifested with a better covenant to make us holier, purer, stronger, freer and lovelier than the people of the old covenant. His purpose is to produce a more glorious, blameless, sanctified, fearless Church than the Old Testament assembly.

The saints of old placed their commission, the commandment of God and their commitment to the Lord first. We must do the same and not compromise our faith because of job, money or marriage. Whatever the fire or fury, we should make up our minds to serve the Lord. Christ died on the cross to give us a better experience of salvation and for us to have more commitment, submissiveness, heavenly-mindedness and Spirit-filled, rapturable life.

When one is born again, he does not continue in sins of the old life anymore. “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not, but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself”. However, some people misinterpret grace to mean the licence to continue in sin. They abuse, misuse and turn the grace of God into lasciviousness. “How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”

Our old man, that is, our nature of depravity, is crucified with Christ at salvation. Hence, we no longer serve sin because its root is destroyed. Saved from sin, we must not let sin into our lives, but yield ourselves unto God "as instruments of righteousness." When we do this, sin will not have dominion over us. The power of the Lord makes us free and His strength keeps us free from sin. "Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways."

The result of Calvary is our awakening to righteousness; that is the difference between the people who do not know the Lord and us. We should be godly and contented. Believers must not fight over anything or compete with others in the home, workplace or community. "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content." All the material things in the world will be dissolved with fervent heat. Therefore, we should have and concentrate on "holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God."

The Greatest Duty For All Christians – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
15 April 2018 | 4:25 am

Many believers, today, are engaged in numerous activities, some very well meaning and well intentioned, which they pursue with frenetic zeal and passion. In the event, they overlook or neglect the greatest challenge and commission for believers today: to evangelise the world. And this is a direct charge from the Almighty God.

The Godhead or the Trinity or the triune God is the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Their being three-in-one shows the plurality and unity of the Godhead. Although the Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Ghost is God, yet, a distinction exists among them. Each has the same power, authority and passion for the salvation of the world. They are involved in our salvation and "being sent forth" to evangelise the world. God created the world and is "not willing that any should perish." He desires and demands that all should hear the gospel and have the opportunity to be saved.

God the Father commands the preaching of the gospel for which obedience is rewarded and disobedience is punishable. God the Son, Jesus Christ, died for the redemption of the whole world. Having paid the great price of redemption for all on earth, He commands us to "preach the gospel to every creature." Faithfulness to His command is rewardable and unfaithfulness is punishable. But it is God the Holy Spirit that empowers the Church to take the Word of God to the world. He confirms the call and directs the great work of evangelising the world for which commitment is rewardable and indifference is punishable.

The concern of God the Father is that all men on earth "should be saved." Thus, He sends forth believers to reach out to people living in sin, so they can be saved. "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." If God were to handle the work of soul-winning by Himself, supposing the will of man and the faithfulness of the Church are not involved, He would want everyone on earth to be saved.

The same can be said of the children of Israel's emergence from the land of Egypt and entrance into the land of Canaan. If not for the choice man has to make between "life and death," God the Father would have wanted us all to be in heaven because He is the God of love, mercy and compassion. He drew the plan of salvation and sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to sacrifice Himself in order to save all His human creatures from their sins. "And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world."

As the Lord sends us forth, He wants us to make eternal life available for everyone. He calls and commands us to seek the lost, rescue the perishing, warn all sinners, preach repentance, prevail on our neighbours with love, have compassion on the ignorant and persuade men to turn from sin, darkness and hell towards the Saviour, light and heaven. The benchmark of God's extraordinary, sacrificial and passionate love for the world is that He gave the best He had in heaven for our salvation, namely, Jesus Christ, His Son.

Therefore, there is no discrimination against anyone who wants to come out of sin to the Saviour, escape from darkness to light and flee from evil to the grace of God. Our Lord's heart, love, mercy, compassion and heaven are large enough to accommodate everyone, in all ages, of all races, and from all continents. Although the world is evil, sinful and condemnable, God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but to save it. It is for this reason that those who claim to be children of God must have and manifest His nature, love and preeminent compassion for souls lost in sinful practices and indulgent lifestyle. We must love our neighbours as ourselves and tell them the good news of salvation. Like the Apostle Paul, we must commit ourselves totally to the work of soul-winning, recognising that it is the will of God. And, "We ought to obey God rather than men."

The commission to reach "all nations" comes from God the Son and is predominant (MORE IMPORTANT, POWERFUL, SUCCESSFUL, INFLUENTIAL, SUPERIOR, AUTHORITATIVE THAN OTHER THINGS). It must be the essential thing in our lives as true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

No nation should be excluded from the spread of the gospel because on the flimsy excuse that they are resistant to accept God's offer of salvation.

They may presently be unreached but not unreachable. We are commanded to reach every city, village, local government and province with the saving gospel.

Our message must be persuasive and convincing. Those who listen to us should be able to tell from the tone of our voice, posture, declaration, eye contact and conviction that we really want them to be saved.

Christ has given this gospel as a predominant commission to the whole Church and every believer.

It is the supreme responsibility of the Church to evangelise the world. Therefore, we must reach the unreached, seek the unsought and snatch them from Satan.

We must preach to the godless, deliver them from death and hell, pray for them, plead with them, persuade them and prevail on them until they yield to the saving gospel, and preserve them for heaven.

This is the all-important work and ministry from Christ to dispersed members and dedicated ministers of the gospel. There is no other assignment as significant as this.

It is more important than gaining the whole world. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36).

We must obey the Lord and rededicate our lives to preaching the Word, which Jesus, our Lord and Master has given to us. Obedience to this charge will result in the conversion of many people into God's kingdom.

The confirmation believers get to reach out to souls comes through God the Holy Ghost. "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them."

Although Paul and Barnabas had some duties and responsibilities they were previously engaged in, the Holy Ghost called them to a greater ministry. Hence, they had to give up certain things for the essential work of soul-winning.

Believers, who never hear the audible, distinct, convincing voice of the Holy Spirit, lack the convincing call of the Holy Ghost to do a specific task.

Before we go out to preach, we must pray for, and depend wholly on the leading of the Holy Ghost, because He only can give us the convincing, productive utterance we need to win the lost. He knows the state of mind of the people we want to preach the gospel to.

Therefore, "take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say."

When we utter what the Holy Ghost wants us to say, the word will get to the right target and they will give their lives to the Lord. As He sends us forth, He gives us all the instruments and weapons to ply the Word on the field.

The Holy Ghost empowers, enables, emboldens, enlists, engages, enlightens, endues and endows us.

He directs us in the right way to walk and declare the word of God; and He will strengthen, support and work through us if we obey His call. "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost… shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance" (John 14:26).

Get Ready For Christ's Return (Part 1) — Pastor W.F. Kumuyi

Get ready for Christ’s return – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
13 May 2018 | 3:17 am

The coming of the Lord is imminent and believers are admonished to be ready. The world is full of darkness and unrighteousness.
But when one receives the gospel, he is transformed. Grace teaches, trains and transforms him to be righteous, sober and godly in this present world.

When grace comes to us, the past is forgotten, forgiven and changed, and the present is renewed. Grace prepares us for the future.

Many of the people who received the impartation of God's grace never saw Christ physically.

Thus, they looked forward to seeing Him eventually in heaven. "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."

The coming of the Lord had been prophesied in the Old Testament. Jesus Christ spoke about it. He said, "I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself." (John 14:2,3).

He also spoke of the Great Tribulation – a period of unprecedented suffering on earth for sinners and backsliders, who will not go with the Lord at the rapture. Meanwhile, the marriage supper of the Lamb will be going on in heaven during the Great Tribulation.

After the Great Tribulation, Christ will come with the saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. Since the rapture will be unannounced, the Lord calls on all believers to get ready.

Those who are not born again and sanctified are not ready for His coming. No one can predict the date, time or year when the Lord will come. "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."

If there were no possibilities of anyone missing the rapture, there would have been no need for the warning or command to get ready.

To see the Lord when He comes, we must remain "pure in heart" (Matthew 5:8 ), maintain "clean hands, and… not (lift) up (our) soul unto vanity" (Psalm 24:4).

We should also declare the Word of God that saves from ruin and eternal judgment, and prepare people for the coming of the Lord, and for heaven.

Believers are not saved and transformed to remain here on earth forever. The purpose is to prepare them for the coming of the Lord. We need to get ready, desire and look for that blessed appearance of our Lord.

It is natural for a bride to desire strongly the return of her bridegroom, who had gone on a long journey. Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church is the Bridegroom.

The Church is the Bride waiting for the coming of the Bridegroom. In a family, the wife keeps herself pure while waiting for her husband and prepares in every way necessary for his return.

Christ is coming for the purchased, purified Bride. Although, we are here on earth, "our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." Sadly, not everyone looks forward to Christ's return to take His people home.

Some are so busy with business and things of the world that they do not long for the coming of the Lord, even though they are religious. But "unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time."

The people that were saved in the Old Testament also looked forward to the glorious appearing of the Lord. When Christ comes, He will take us to heaven, a place "whose builder and maker is God." This present world is corrupt, defiling and awaiting doom, destruction and damnation. Therefore, we should "look for new heavens… wherein dwelleth righteousness."

This is only possible if we are diligent to be "found of him in peace (with God, man, family, members of the church and people in the community), without spot, and blameless."

We should keep ourselves in the love of God so that, by His grace, when He comes, we would not be left behind. "But that which ye have already hold fast till I come." As we long for Christ's return, we should hold fast to our salvation, sanctification, conviction, doctrine, commitment and consecration.

Get ready for Christ's return – Part 2
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
20 May 2018 | 4:00 am

One of the pointers to the imminent return of Jesus Christ – and this was specifically referenced by Christ Himself – is the mass spiritual decline that will be prevalent in the age. Seeing the trends in our time, it becomes apt to appreciate Christ's admonition as both timely and instructive.
Before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot and his family had the opportunity to escape for their lives with the strict instruction: "look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed." However, Lot and his family did not fully comply. "But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." We must not try to adjust the word of God. Delay is dangerous, lingering is costly and looking back is damnable.

A little deviation from or modification of what we have learnt brings damnation, doom and destruction. Lot's wife looked back and missed Paradise, as well as caused problems for her daughters. The five foolish virgins mentioned in Christ's discourse on His return, delayed action and missed heaven. Salvation is necessary; to delay to be saved is damnable and punishable. Restitution is essential; to postpone it is dangerous and damnable. Sanctification is required and holiness is indispensable.

Many people do not have time to pray for the strength and power to be spiritual and prepare their souls for heaven. They do not have time to serve the Lord in evangelism. They give all their time and strength to amassing wealth. We should be wise and not be buried in activities of the world, such that we fail to remember the coming of our Lord. To be ready for the Lord's return, those who have gone away from God's service should return immediately. "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

We are admonished to "Remember Lot's wife," when we are faced with the temptation to compromise our Christian stand in our celebrations, examinations, businesses and marriages. "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled."

As we expect the coming of the Lord, we should not wait in idleness, but be devoted to His service. Our expectation is not idle nor a crowded life of earthly engagements. It is a life of daily seeking the lost and bringing sinners to repentance and faith in Christ; feeding converts and babes in Christ with the milk of the Word; strengthening weak believers to be strong in faith, grace, the word of God and in their convictions; reaching out to backsliders and helping them to get restored to their first love; exhorting Christians to holiness; spending our time, talent and treasure to build for and with Christ; and labouring to prepare as many souls as possible for Christ's return.

As the Thessalonian believers waited for the Lord's coming, they also worked "to seek and to save that which was lost." Those who are involved in evangelism and any other service in the house of God should heed Christ's instruction to "occupy" until He comes. As we go about our activities, Christ's question is: "lovest thou me more than these?" We should show our love to God by doing the work He has committed into our hands.

The early Church understood the certainty of Christ's return and did everything possible to reach sinners with the gospel. "And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ." We should give our hearts, time, talents and skill to reach out to souls, as we await the coming of the Lord.

Enjoying God's Covenant (Part 1) — Pastor W.F. Kumuyi

Enjoying God's Covenant – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
24 June 2018 | 3:00 am

God promises many things in the scriptures, and not many people ever get to appropriate those promises.
The reason is because they are not ready to enjoy the beneficence of the Almighty God.

One of those promises is when He said that He would send His Messenger to the earth.

But it is only those who are prepared for His coming that will enjoy fulfillment of the promise.

We must delight in the Lord by seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness.

From the moment one surrenders himself to Christ and decides to follow Him, Christ's goal is to make him a fisher of men, soul-winner, minister and messenger of the gospel.

God has called us to be His messengers to our communities. Malachi and John the Baptist were sent in fulfillment of God's promise to the children of Israel to send them His messengers: "Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me."

However, the Lord Jesus Christ, specially referred to as "the messenger of the covenant" and the "Lord," is sent to us. He is the One we are waiting for.

Jesus Christ is coming again; and He will come suddenly. "And the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come… behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts."

As messengers of the Lord, with His Spirit and power upon us, we are empowered to win souls into the Kingdom of God in preparation for His coming. Also, we need to prepare ourselves to receive Him.

Jesus Christ did not leave us in any doubt about what would happen at His Second Coming. He clearly reveals the: (1) preparation that must herald his return.

He also reveals that He would serve as the Purifier of the chosen race, the Israelites.

Then, He showed that there would be punishment for corrupted reprobates.

Christ is coming again and we must be ready. In preparation for His coming, we should seek Him in salvation, sanctification, service, sacrifice and surrender (of our time, talent and treasure).

Christ's return is imminent. The signs of the time confirm that He is about to come.

Thus, where there is sin, we must turn to the Lord in repentance, make our restitutions and stay righteous in Him as we expect His coming. It is our restoration to the Lord that shows we are getting ready for the time He will come to take home the saints.

In ministry, preparing people for the coming of the Lord should centre on turning their minds unto the Lord and not just entertaining them. We must let them know that money, riches, position and the things of this world will not be able to withstand God's wrath, if they fail to accept Christ.

"And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb."

As the Purifier of the chosen race, Christ is working on the Gentiles who are now receiving the grace for salvation and sanctification because these are "the times of the Gentiles."

But when the times of the Gentiles will be over, after the rapture, the Lord will concentrate on the children of Israel and pardon, purify, purge and empower them to be His mouthpiece to the rest of the world.

"And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness."

The times of the Gentiles will soon be over. Those who are not born again must submit themselves to the Lord to be saved before the time runs out, while believers must ensure they faithfully serve the Lord.

When the times of the Gentiles are "fulfilled," Christ will come, the Church will be taken away and the great tribulation will take place.

The great tribulation will be like a purifying agent on the children of Israel. It will make them to call on God. Eventually, there will be punishment for corrupted reprobates.

Unbelievers, including those who practice sorcery, adultery and those that oppress their workers "in [their] wages," among other sinners, will be punished in everlasting fire.

Judgment is coming! But salvation is available for everyone who will sincerely call on the Lord today.
