Itel Partner With Google; To Launch Smartphones On Android Oreo (go Edition) by itelMobileNG: 4:31pm On Feb 26, 2018
Barcelona, Spain – February 26, 2018 – itel Mobile has today announced plans which will see the mobile phone giant launch phones that run on the Android™ Oreo™ (Go edition) operating system later this year.

itel is one of the first global mobile phone brands to feature the new optimised OS which will offer consumers a number of benefits including:

• A smooth and fast experience tailored to devices with 1GB of RAM or less
• New and reimagined Google apps for entry-level smartphones including Google™ Go, YouTube Go, and the Google Assistant for Android (Go edition)
• Enhanced data efficiency

Newly launched phones which will be built on Google’s Android Oreo (Go edition) operating system to deliver better user experience, and cater for a wide range of consumer groups across a diverse range of international markets. Android Oreo (Go edition) comes with new apps reimagined for the next generation of users, such as YouTube Go – a new app for users to watch, download, and share videos while controlling their data.

itel, with entry-level product line specifically designed for both Africa, South East Asia and South Asia markets, will be committed to supporting Google’s target market priorities.

Since its launch more than a decade ago, itel has focused on serving consumer groups, by providing phones to emerging markets and giving millions worldwide an opportunity to own a device for the first time.

The partnership marks one of the firm’s main initiatives of 2018, with a series of additional product announcement to be made throughout the year. All of which reinforce the firm’s commitment to innovation and clear focus on growth in developing markets by understanding and meeting the ever-changing needs of consumers.

Commenting on the partnership, Oke Umurhohwo, Marketing Communications Manager, itel Mobile, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Google which will see itel launch series of new phones that run on Android Oreo (Go edition) operating system during the coming months”

“As the world’s mobile industry converges in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress, we are happy to reveal these plans, which will give consumers in Nigeria and other emerging markets an opportunity to own highly efficient and user-friendly phones”

Sagar Kamdar, Director, Product Management, Android, said: “Android Oreo (Go edition) is specifically optimised to bring the magic of Google and Android to smartphones with limited memory and processing power. We’re excited to see itel Mobile take the next step towards bringing computing to more people by launching Android Oreo (Go edition) phones.”

The premise behind Android Go is pretty simple. It’s a build of Android Oreo that is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM.

It sets the phone up to use the “Go” versions of a handful of Google apps — including the main Google app, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail, and so on.

Some of those apps, like YouTube Go, have special features for downloading stuff over Wi-Fi, In other cases, the “Go” versions are radically smaller than their regular variants. The smaller apps and slimmer OS can as much as halve the amount of storage that’s taken up by default on a brand new phone.

A lot of Africans dont know that much about phones but rather concerned about the cost of the phone since poverty is endemic in this part of the globe and like it or not itel is selling more phones here cos of that. A heavy end mobile phone user will have no use for a 512ram phone and even 1gig ram but most people just Facebook and WhatsApp so itel is good to go with the price

No, you guys are economic neocolonialist leeches, thriving off the technological backwardness and bad governance structures of 3rd World African countries, much like the way dog-ticks mob sickly, dying dogs with their vampiric attention!

Why are you not making inroads into Europe? Will they take the rash from you? And you're here celebrating your collab'ing with Google to "dumb-down" Oreos for our pple since there's no other direction to explore for now, for you!

If it was all about "tailoring specific products to specific markets", why haven't you people, in your life, ever even crossed the 2gb-Ram boundary line?

OR are you busy making Hexacore phones in the spiritual realms for the spirits of your dead ancestors long past wey we nor know?

Don't sell us bulshyt, we know the prices! And bind those anti-2gb limitation demons wey no gree you dey make better spec phone while you're at it.

It's because of poor government regulations that companies dump trash phones here and sell them to ignorant customers.

I don't know why you people are hating on Itel. They carried out their market research, and found out that the emerging market is the best for them.

I used an Itel phone at the early stage of my Android life, which helped a lot because everything in that phone has been simplified. Then I moved on to a mid-range device, though from another brand.

Itel has a market which they're targeting. they produce good low-end smartphones at entry-level (cheap), and this partnership with Google is only for the best. I.e to make these smartphones more effecient and optimized with a wide range of 'Go' apps and the Android Oreo experience.

This move should be given thumbs up, instead of back lashes.. And no matter how u blast them, it won't change what they produce and the market they target.

If you're blaming the economy, I'm sorry, but it makes no sense. In the next few years, a phone with 4GB RAM will be considered low-end, because phones with 15GB RAM will be out by then.

So, Itel phones are for people just starting the Android experience, low income earners, casual users (normal WhatsApp and fb users) and aged people (I might be wrong here though, lol) ... You won't give the flagship Samsung Galaxy S9+ to someone who jst started using Android phone and expect him to cope. NO!

So, buy Itel phone if u like, or kip shut..because ur talking won't stop odas from buying.

Even if dey produce a phone with 10gb ram, I bet u won't still buy it. So, leave them with the low-end phone which they are good at.

I think itel phones to be cool too.. The way they stormed the market was actually surprising to me, and with upgraded devices, I think we are seeing the beginning of itel.
