Its bn ova a week goin to2 now since Da grins death, it was painful to most nigerians, even to those whu don't undrstand him.
The question am baffled abt now is d fact dat had it bn it was anoda of our most ranked rapper, would d Death hype be more dan this or less?
Let's take for example, 3 rappers dat r argueably or one way or the other rulling the rap game.
1)MI
2)Ruggedman
3)Mode 9

Pls get me not wrong, am not praying they die in the nxt few years or wishn dem bad(no dey go quote me for ya opata talk). What am just tryna say is dat, had it bn it was any of this 3, would nigerians home and abroad av felt em like they did for Da grin
I mean to d point of planning a candle Night session in most known Universities, peeps commentn hw painful it was on facebook, peeps adoptn part of his name and using it as a prefix on facebook, most people who kno nothn abt him getn to kno him, lots of artist paying tribute with songs, peeps all around playn his songs like he just released it,peeps plastering his pictures here n dere(cars, houses)and even using it as profile pix.
I kno all this would be done to some extent for any of d 3, but would it b as much as dat of 'Grin'

Well for me I'll say No, none of em will meet up with it.

Reasons-
Da grin was steaming hot before he died, and his style of music is more unique and popular arnd hihop heads in naija.
MI is also hot but, not many would airplay his songs like dey will to "Kondo, Pon Pon Pon e.t.c' I mean his style is not unique and popular like dat of Grin,
Ruggedman is well respectd for his style and apeals to his listeners, he would be felt but still not like Da grin. I bliv his style of music seperate more haters from lovers and fans, hence dividn the pees, likewise Mode 9, if am not on Facebook/nairaland, I wonder if I'll kno (if he were to be gone). There seems to be many stonheaded nigerians, who don't bliv HARDCORE RAP appeals to the mind in a special manner, I guess he passing away would look like a normal thing to most naija, But would still be felt by matured minds like dat of mine and some other Rap hiphop lovers on nland and facebook,
All this plus d fact dat dagrin flows in a local language, that means for all who claimed not to love rap cus they don't hear the words well, they'll grabb more when da grin flows for them, e.g

Dude, what part of Benin do you gather these useless stats from??
My guys from Igbinedion where the ones that even called me to confirm the accident after sumone posted a thread.

All your B.S about Dagrin not getting airplay because he was Yoruba, last time I visited Igbinedion and Uniben. . . X-project's Tumba and Yahooze were the top songs and this was the period Morachi's first hit was already on STV.

You probably think your mp3 player is the Billboard.
Sometimes I wonder why people allow you to continue spewing effery.

Your guys are uninformed like you, that's the only explanation.
Besides, are you going to deny that hiphop in Nigeria was born in the Universities??
Isn't that where you know if a song is hot or not?? Tell me what hiphop song doesn't get Uni recognition before hitting radio??

I brought up Okada because of it's remoteness to the rest of Edo State, and still they get the CDs from Benin.
I used the example of X-project because I was there when all man used to go to Hexagon and Tumba was on heavy rotation.
You were still writing JAMB back then and you're coming here to tell me Yoruba guys don't hit in Benin . . . B.S
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by Rhymstein(m): 1:21pm On May 01, 2010
How come those same guys knw songs frm niggaraw,mode9,mi n ruggedman n u say, they r uninformed
BTW,i was in 100level when those songs came out,no dey luk me lyk a teenager or sum1 dat jst entered 20,b4 u go dey do ITK,

Tumba, lorile, wch kain beat dem get?,hiphop shey or na dance songs,
Before o4kasibe crept into benin,my cuzn in sagamu was already telln me,6 months earlier

Igbinedion uni-lagos resident infest dat skul
While uniben-ajegunle boys n lagos touts come wit their noise, one reason,i dont stay around skul,i come frm town daily,i no my city well, evn if i did my secondary skul in lagos

Come benin now n u go knw say,d local artistes r gettin more airplay on radio n tv
Slizzy e,franchize, maleke, zaga, evn monemsis without video, his freestyle was always on radio
Evn badman wit a low quality video was on rotation, lyk evryday on itv n ebs(myt be because of his connect wit playcity)unlike pon pon pon

Na now i dey hear da grin song for ring road stores n for radio
Evn d uniben girls i knw, most didnt evn knw d title of any of grins track b4 now

For where terry g,timaya n our local hitmakers dey,evn omo 9ja get airplay for ere,

I dey listen to dj da mix party mix on rhythm benin,i hardly hear grin
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by eldee(m): 2:58pm On May 01, 2010
B.S . . . you're saying Igbinedion is full of Gidi Indigenes?? What of Uniben??
BTW check your stats Port Hacourt and Benin guys rule Igbinedion . . . ask anyone. . . there are more Obasekis than Adewales over there.

Uniben has a higher proportion of Lagos students than Igbins. . .

Wasn't it on this same Nairaland that someone came to say M.I wasn't known in Benin and Warri??
You guys in your tiny cliques think you're the Billboard of Edo State.

Now you're dragging it and comparing Dagrin's airplay to Terry G . . . you see how desperate you are now??

You said the language barrier stopped him from getting airplay in Benin and I'm saying as a hiphop artiste in Nigeria, you've conquered a state if you've conquered their Uni/Poly. . . with what I've heard, Dagrin held his own in all Unis in Edo State. . . that's where radio spins are decided for hiphop.

Now till you give me anything that proves otherwise, you're spewing bollocks.
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by Rhymstein(m): 11:43pm On May 01, 2010
Na u knw,if u lyk no blive
He was popular ere n no show promoter brought him for a show in benin city, when M.I,Mode9,terry da rapman, pherow, have been ere more dan 2ce within 6months,evn igho don come

@Rhymestein

How long did it take M.I to come to Benin??
How long did it take X-Project to get to Edo State??

You know I'll sniff you out if you lie. . .

igbo boy:

ah ah eldee na by force? He said dagrin was not popular in his hood and u dey follow am argue, errand boy
The problem is, my sources say otherwise.
I can come here and say Isolate rules London . . . does that mean you should believe me??

Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by eldee(m): 11:18am On May 02, 2010
Infact I'm going to Ether you, but erm . . . I'll need a producer.

Do you mind producing my Elrazur diss track for me?? grin grin
I'll promise not to go too hard on you if you produce it. tongue tongue
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by ElRazur: 11:27am On May 02, 2010
Lol.

Speaking of producing. My PC went kaput on me. I was installing an update for one of the stuff I use and it literally killed my PC - having said that, the PC have a habit of dying on me and me having to reinstall all over. As it stand, I have lost everything - still present in the hardware, but I will need some specialist software to access the damn thing.

Anyway, I have some track I was working on that was meant to be part of the NL mixtape, but I just give up man till I buy a new pc which will be around 450 but can't even do that until end of May. angry I am not a happy man. AMD Ohenom II pc sha for here.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Barebones/Novatech/BB-9654G2.html

Gonna send you the track in a moment. Again I did the beat, vocals and Krayola had some inputs in it too. Will love to finish it, but going through the whole reinstall process again on my pc is pissing me off and I may end up losing it again.
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by eldee(m): 11:39am On May 02, 2010
That PC looks too good to be true . . . what's the catch??
My PC costs £600 and it's not half as good as that.

Wow . . . I actually do need to stop this Sony Vaio addiction that I have.

I always look forward to seeing you and Krayola work together . . . it's a perfect formula. cheesy
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by ElRazur: 11:45am On May 02, 2010
It is a barebone. Meaning it is put together for you, but without no operating system. Hence why I said it will cost me about 450. The actual price is 379, but by the time I put my GFX card - going for dual monitor this time. Hard drive and Windows 7 [I have xp at the moment] it will go up in price.

I have my sound card I am taking from my existing pc and hard drive, plus I have windows xp. But will want to put a bigger hard drive may be a terrabyte and windwos 7.

Barebone works out cheaper, but the only downside is that if you break anything while putting it together you are liable lol.

As it stand, I will pay for that and it will be put together, but when I get it and I start it, I will have to install my own Operating system, drivers [will come with the drivers] and then configure how I want. smiley Been doing so for my past pcs.

Yeah Krayola is awesome man. Check out his inputs on that track. cool I think he's got the potential to fill holes left by dagrin but with a different dimension. smiley i.e Pidgin and a rawness about him that I can't explain.
Re: (death)would Any Nigerian Rapper Be Felt Like Dat Of Da Grin. by ElRazur: 11:47am On May 02, 2010
When it comes to PC, depending on what you wanna use it for, I think building it yourself is the way to go. Very rewarding. smiley

Also Sony is like paying for premium jare. I will gladly pay for their ps3 and games, but when it comes to pc, plenty alternatives dey jare.

As for me, I doubt the death of any artist/artiste in the Nigerian music industry would move me the way DaGrin's did. I felt more for him than I felt for MJ and believe me that's something cos when MJ died I was like "damn!!! too bad." But for DaGrin, I really felt the pain deep inside for someone I hardly knew except through his raps. The funny part of the whole thing is that am igbo and don't even understand a word of what he says still he got me stunned with his style and delivery.

R.I.P. DaGrin.
