|The Wise Man From The South-West ( JAGABAN) by Nobody: 10:54am On Mar 29, 2018|
Since 1999, Lagos have gradually transformed into a descent city.
Most Nigerians resident in Lagos (before and after 1999) will attest to the fact that indeed, Lagos has become a seeming model for leadership in government in a Nigerian context. That said, we all agree a lot more can be done.
While criticism is good, we all cannot sit back and dismiss the visionary qualities of JAGABAN of Lagos. He has held Lagos together since 1999 - bringing stability and development through sound governance. He is the only leader among his contemporaries to have long term initiatives; executed government after government in the last 19 years. Indeed there are protest here and there about his methods and speculated high sense of greed, but the questions are:
1. Is Lagos working?
2. Are we better of from where we all started in 99
3. What other state in Nigeria can possibly compare to Lagos.
The answers lie in the man of vision who never sold himself as angel to anyone but believes that there must be “honour amongst thieves”. This principle is responsible for the infrastructural and human development in Lagos even if pundits may say contract figures are over bloated, crime is on the increase etc, one can still see visible footprint of work done through actual project execution.
Accordingly, while the forgoing reservations may be true, what is also true is that:
1. JAGABAN turned agberos into Lastma and today graduates are working for Lastma after 19 years.
2. JAGABAN called the Bluff of Baba iyabo and initiated a move to optimise internal revenue generations. The only state that ignored it share of the federal allocations for a long time and survived.
3. Insecurity - Lagos appears to be the lowest in Nigeria. The air of safety associated with living in Lagos cannot be over emphasised.
4. Who can remember what Oshodi and many other areas of Lagos looked like in the past.
We must give to Caesar what is to Caesar and to God what is to God.
It is obvious that leadership in Lagos is better than what is obtainable in other states that will budget and spend money on “ghost” projects?
I have come to admire the JAGABAN of Lagos who I think believe that even in the face of perceived corruption in government circles, that leaders must learn to work for the masses and find interesting ways to plug leakages.
Agree or disagree with me, we can not wish away the wisdom that the JAGABAN of Lagos brings to the table.
I have searched across all geo-political regions of Nigerian, only Lagos seems to understand the leadership requirement to serve a people.
