A lot has been said about the person of Obasanjo which I will not recount here but in my opinion, the greatest misfortune and evil that befell the Nigerian state is none other than this man being born a Nigerian. Although some may argue that we give too much credit to him by according to him a bogey man status, his actions since his inception into Nigerian politics is yet benefit the nation.

In 1979, Obasanjo's shoddy handling of the transition from his military rule to the civilian rule led to the emergence of Alhaji Shehu Shagari being sworn in as president. Although Shagari by all accounts was deemed incorrupt, he presided over the most corrupt administration in the history of Nigeria at the time.

In 1983 the Buhari/Idiagbon led coup easily overthrew Shagari to stem corruption or so we are told, the duo presided over an adminstration with the worst human right abuse in the history of the nation.

Entering the stage in 1985 was the evil genius 'Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida' through a bloodless palace coup, he played to the gallery with his grins and Nigerians began to hope for a new dawn which never came. He was disgraced out of office in 1993 after annulling the fairest and freest election in the nation's history. He is also credited with nationalising corruption.

The exit of the evil genius paved the way for the dark goggled general Sani Abacha, he was Nigerian's worst nightmare. His bid to succeed himself was truncated when he died in 1997.

By sheer luck Obasanjo escaped the gulag of Abacha with the skin of his teeth, a benevolence he chose not to extend to the Nigerian masses when he was elected president for two terms. His attempt to amend the constitution to perpetuate himself in office ended in ignominy. He is known for his vindictive nature and it is possible that he chose to foist Umaru Yar'adua on Nigeria for rejecting his third term agenda despite the abundance of abler candidates. Umaru Yar'adua's administration never really got off due to ill health resulting in a term of waste.

Obasanjo appears to be narcissistic and for the Nigerian nation not to return the admiration he believes he deserves he will stop at nothing to make us pay, but he should remember that he is a mere mortal afterall and history will judge him.

OBJ is not the greatest evil to befall the Nigerian state; the guy is a political chess player whose strategy is paying off now. Who ever would have thought that an ijaw man will be President? Its our turn to shine now.

IBB never pretended to be what he is not.

His appointment or re-appointments of governmental functionaries have to be sanctioned by OBJ who put both Yaradua and himself in power.

OBJ at least handed over to a civilian regime(though you might not have liked his choice), IBB, the whole World knows what he did on June 12th.
OBJ tried to move Nigeria back towards realistic western civilization, IBB took us OIC.
The differences are clear and huge; there is no progressive point on which OBJ doesn't beat IBB by more than a factor of 10.
