My take is Nigeria has the largest market in Africa. 76% of the entire economy of West Africa. So if you remove the economy of the 4 other Anglophone west African countries, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Liberia,(?) imagine the amount of misery and laughable economic activities the rest of the francophone countries have.

West Africa is arguably around 300 million people and Nigeria is arguably 180 million. With the proximity, crude oil and gas and cheaper goods and services, I think Nigeria--despite the barrier of language and France's interests-- haven't really exploited the advantages and gaps to really dominate the entire region.
