Blame CBN.
The idea is that minting a single note costs around #40 no matter the denomination.
So it's cheaper to month the higher denominations than the cheaper denomination. Another thing is that the rate of exchange of smaller bills is higher that that of the lower bills, so it's natural that the small bills will deteriorate faster.
Now it looks wise for them not to mint smaller bills right? Well, no.
The consequence of this decision is that that macro economy is being affected.
That values of consumer items are being approximated to the nearest readily available notes (change). The masses don't get the REAL value for the items they're purchasing. And this is one of the major causes of inflation, which is now an even bigger headache to the government than the gain of the cut cost.

Buhari does not know any of these though, but I think the guys at CBN should know.

If I'm right, the year printed on the note indicates the year it rolled out of the press... That note was printed in 2014.. This is 2018... 100naira note is common among middle to low class citizens and get passed around more... I don't blame the note o

Someone is saying something about the Arabic inscription on the note that was removed and because of it the present government refused to re-mint the note, too bad if you ask me, why was the Arabic inscription there at the first place, is Arabic our official language?

There is shortage of change in circulation and buhari hasn't made provision for mints, the central bank is in a tight position to produce more of the most used denominations.

This is my Opinion. Ever since Jonathan removed the Arabic inscriptions on the former N100 note, this govt has refused to Print new ones cos anything Arabic to them is Islamic.
They don't want to print new ones without the inscription, neighter can they bring back the old or Print on the new. All eyes are watching.
I said this 2 yrs ago as a joke, now it is beginning to sound true. It is the TRUTH.

There is this rumour going about that because GEJ remove the Arabic writing in the centenary N100 note they want to phase it out
