It has now become a custom for touts and thugs to demand money from rich people that wants to establish anything, be it house or business, popularly called "owk ile" without knowing its effect.

Mr Gbenga Samuel Wemimo, a Twitter user narrates how these touts stopped business owner, who established an hotel in their community and bought a transformer to help the community and his hotel, but was discouraged after they forcefully collected N100,000 as "Owk Ile" from him.

He wrote:
"Somewhere in Lagos, a man built a hotel on a street and brought a new transformer to help the street and his hotel business. Youths in the area then demanded he must pay N100,000 before it will be installed. That was how the transformer got connected to just his hotel."

Other twitter users also narrate their experience from the effect of this barbaric act.

It's everywhere oh. I have experienced it on several occasions, even after paying youth development levy. They think they are doing us. Now, i am no longer a charity organization. If i have any project or CSR, i will go and do it in my hometown......Even the solar street light, public borehole, charity foundation and skill acquisition center i intend building, i will do it in my home town. To your tent oh Israel. No Time!!!!!!!!!!

This is why we need proper education in this country. People should be thought how to contribute their quota to the country or help bring that to fruition.

It's like that all over the country. I don't know why some people don't like development.

What am I saying ? Even Buhari never contributed anything to this country.
Such selfish and uncivilized beings.

A higher percentage of Nigerians are always more concerned about their present status at the detriment of the future and that's why Nigeria is still at this point.

Only few Nigerians living abroad want to come home and invest. They would tell you that their business is been mismanaged when they are around dont expect them to manage it when theu are not around.

Our mindset has to change. Nigerians think if a company folds up only the owner that will suffer NO we all suffer.

A friend was telling me to come and invest i decline, because I don't trust anybody even family Nigerians dont reason they do silly things and called it smart no its called you are doing yourself.

It's even worse in the region where I'm from and reside(Niger Delta), majority of the youths now think "Marching Ground" as it is usually called, is part and parcel of their fundamental rights.
Its sickening to just turn thoughts towards these things sef.
