LANDMARK UNIVERSITY WINS BIG IN USA AT THE 2018 HULT PRIZE COMPETITION

“Solving the world’s most pressing challenges is not just the right thing to do, it is also good business.” Ahmad Ashkar, CEO of Hult Prize.

The assertion above by Ahmad Ashkar corroborates the visionary mandate of the Landmark University to restore the dignity of man. The University has continued to raise the bar of excellence along these lines and her global visibility has continued to blaze the trail. On 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th March, 2018 the University participated in the Hult competition at International Business School, San Francisco, USA and Covenant University, Ogun State respectively.

At the competition in San Francisco, Landmark University Dunamis Team emerged 3rd position in their category alongside Brown University and some other Ivy League Universities in the United States. It is on record that over 45 teams from countries globally contested at Hult International Business School and 38 teams contested at Covenant University for a slot of the final that will take place later in the year. Landmark University Dunamis Team is expected at the next stage of the competition that will take place later in the year, where they will be camped for a minimum of six weeks with all expenses paid and investors available to guide the teams to ensure the successful completion of selected projects.

Team Dunamis which comprises Obasogie Okpamen Amen, Usifoh Benedict Endurance, Hermns-Efenudu Joshua (500 level students) and Obasogie Osasumwen Osasu (300 level student) are all of Mechanical Engineering Department, their project is to develop a device for tapping heat energy and storing it as electrical energy for rural dwellers. The team was able to secure an appointment with Jim Chappel (Software Executive, Advisor and Board Member Double Eagle Management Group); Daniel Goldman (Co-Founder at EDGEof Inc.) has also shown interest in their product, Taylor Scobbie (CEO at IMACT Coffee and Winner of Hult Prize 2016 sees the team as his favourite and promised to promote it. Julie Castro Abrams (Board Member, Investor and Consultant at LENDonate) and Lan Vuong Haarmann (director, Geo PMO at Google) are in contact with the team concerning their product, while Alex Salkever (Best-Selling Author, Speaker Technology Leader (CMO/VP of Product Marketing), Former BusinessWeek Editor, Suffer) also promised to recommend the team for online challenge (Wild Card).
According to an online publication of the organization, Ahmad Ashkar started Hult Prize as a compelling idea in 2009 to leverage the crowd to generate startup ideas from young people to sustainably solve the world’s most critical social challenges.

Today, the Hult Prize is the world’s biggest engine for the launch of for-good, for-profit startups emerging from universities with over 2500 staff and volunteers around the world. In nearly a decade, the movement has deployed more than $50M of capital into the sector and mobilized more than one million young people to re-think the future of business as it continues to breed disruptive innovation on college and university campuses across over 100 countries. The Hult Prize Foundation being called the “Nobel Prize for Students” has been featured in a TIME Magazine Cover Story highlighting the “Top 5 Ideas Changing the World.”
