Up until 1990, the world relied on GDP and similar methodologies to measure the quality of life of citizens and the development in a country. However, in 1990, Mahbub ul Haq and Amartya Sen developed a new methodology for measuring the quality of life in a country. Unlike other metrics, Human Development Index (HDI) considers critical factors such as the likelihood of:
a long and healthy life (measured by life expectancy)
access to knowledge (measured by mean years of education)
a decent standard of living (Gross National Income (GNI) per capita).
This article uses this methodology to rank the most developed African countries.

In your haste to condemn, you chose to be blind to other indices mentioned in the post. Remove the lens of ignorance from your eyes and read again. You will see that GDP wasn't mentioned but GNI.
The ranking base on the indices used is very accurate.

Ranking of Nigeria
GNI : 124 out of 177
Life expectancy 194 out of 201
Unemployment: 167 out 218
Literacy : Not among top 10 in Africa
Health : 140 out of 195

Sorry for your generations! The problems your brothers and sisters are creating in Afongas states are the reasons that non of your people can settle and successfully do your illegal,drug-trafficking, robbery and counterfeit products in your gully erosion deranged bEasterns region. If you guys can eliminate these illicts activities, then go back to your region and do your legal business.Or has anybody stopped you from travelling to the bEasterns region?I guess you are sending your displeasure about Afongas from one of the Afonjas states on Nairaland. The problem with an average non-right thinking bEasterner is the story your grandfathers told you which are no more valid and acceptable just like the story of OSU.Or do you still talk about OSU in this millenium? You better face reality and liberate your self from trade blames on innocent people.Your right thinking brothers and sisters are fully employed in my place of work in an Afonja state. They are hardworking and never blame their grandfathers for not creating jobs in the eastern states.CHANGE YOUR ORIENTATION AND LIFE WILL BE BETTER FOR YOU!

i dont agree that the yorubas are the problem of nigeria. I believe hausa/fulani are the problem. The yorubas have however refused to be the solution. I will point out what i mean.
1. They could have struck an accord with ojukwu in 1966 when they opportunity presented itself to either secede as western region or to join with eastern region as one united south nigeria republic.

2. The obj led administration of 1976 to 1979 could have done more to desimate the northern influence in the nigerian polity with a southern-favoured 1979 constitution. He didnt. Instead he handed over to shehu shagari when Awolowo and zik contested the same election.

3. The yorubas from 1967 to 2007 where either head of state or vp (minus the brief period Ekwueme and Ebute Ukiwe held the post). In what way have they helped to bring Nigeria from the dregs? Even the pride of Nigeria which is lagos (which is their sphere of influence) is littered with shanties and dirt, making it one of the worst cities to live. MMI airport is filled with yorubas who make travel very difficult for the average nigerian.

I would say that the reason no tribe has ever been able to successfuly challenge the ever backward hausa/fulani tribe is because they are backed by the yorubas. That is why yorubas will tell u (and rightly so too) that Nigeria is still one only because of them.

With the amount of hydro carbon in Nigeria and without the backward hausa/fulani tribe, Nigeria's major indices should be something like this at the minimum;

GDP Nominal: $780 Billion
Population: 140 Million
Per Capita Income: $5571
Life expectancy: 68 years
HDI: 0.675

Damn the north!!!

My sister.. Wa shere joor. God bless you. These animals/miscreants are the biggest problems we have in this nation. They're too negative to be progressive!
Just imagine if they eventually get their Biafra BS. Do you think we Yorubas won't deport them all out of our lands? They're everywhere in Yoruba-lands NOT just Lagos.. well settled for that matter. All they're great at is empty chest-beating and whining!

True! But, I think it's more of a sentimental and subjective stance from the Yoruba Muslims than anything. The Yoruba Muslims view and consider their fellow Northerners as brothers hence, don't find a reason to oppose their fundamental ideas and values. sad

It's all about religion which has been one of the biggest hindrance to our growth. undecided

the yoruba muslim is really a problem for the south. The christian yorubas however are partly to be blamed for the influence wielded by the yoruba muslims. There are muslims in SE and SS too...but we refused to give them a political voice

verified by who? When was this crappy list compiled?

The list is using GDP to determine how developed a country, yet somewhere somehow, the country with highest GDP in africa is missing.. cheesy
its not using gdp it’s using gni and are you not funny to be thinking gdp should be favored over hdi to measure a developed country!!its the standard of living per capita we ll look at na.why do you think countries like Norway or japan too developed countries list.Let us see your list tho

i dont agree that the yorubas are the problem of nigeria.

With the amount of hydro carbon in Nigeria and without the backward hausa/fulani tribe, Nigeria's major indices should be something like this at the minimum;

GDP Nominal: $780 Billion
Population: 140 Million
Per Capita Income: $5571
Life expectancy: 68 years
HDI: 0.675

Damn the north!!!

the fulanis are the problem not the north generally. North central people still have sense undecided
