I had a feeling it was a similar situation when I saw your request. I just didn't know how dire the situation was.

It beats my imagination how one would witness this and the situation I described in the VIN Tampering thread and still be against the VIN being provided upfront for preliminary investigation.

The elderly gentleman, unfortunately, failed to do his due diligence, for whatever reason, it could simply be a case of poor preparation before purchasing a vehicle in Nigeria.

I have no issues with the price. The seller may choose to ask for 4 million NGN after factoring in repair costs, if he so wishes, as long as he has fully disclosed the history of the vehicle and provided the VIN. Sellers with ridiculous prices often get regulated by market forces after their vehicles sit unsold for long periods due to the high prices.

Make no mistake about it, the bulk of the responsibility lies with the morally bankrupt seller for failing to fully disclose the history of this vehicle and probably for taking undue advantage of the elderly gentleman.

Very unfortunate.

Actually i dont really quote people like you.

You should have asked is he working with the Federal govt or state.

Is he buying from his savings alone or with cooperative loan payable in 3yrs.

For your information, he's working the federal government on Contediss 14.

In a tertiary institution where he treat mails from employees.

Not in the busary or works or where they deal with cash.

In that division, corruption is not existing.

People live salaries and loans.

You ask questions first or think before saying somethings

This is unnecessary. Cease the responses to any issues outside the scope of the underhanded sale being discussed.

Cut a path through the distractions and keep the focus on the real issues.

sometimes I wonder y people choose not to assimilate or understand trivial issues before commenting.

let's look @ a similar although a more sensitive scenario....

a friend of urs develops a condition that needs a body part sourced from overseas, ur friend starts accumulating cash from every nook and cranny finally he generates just enough cash for that procedure.

he meets the first surgeon, the surgeon tells him that he has it in stock and it's very clean, the previous owner was very very healthy before the retrieval and he is assuring him it's a good buy. he proceeds with the procedure only for him to find out after the whole process that the part was actually sourced abroad albeit with some serious issues although curable through some other laboratory processes.

how would u feel for ur friend? price wasn't the main issue

now here's the focus:
1. the surgeon lack integrity significantly. the fact that he lied originally also means he must have cut some corners in the procedure maybe to make profit or to hasten up the process. the intent doesn't really count here as long as integrity has been breached.
he might have even recycled syringes while at it.

as long as he has no Integrity, there's no limit to what he can accomplish "negatively"

2. Nigeria is a place where cutting corners is the order of the day. since it has been established that the organ/part was sourced internationally at a cheap rate only for it to be cleansed locally. people that cleansing cannot be up to 50percent thorough. I assure u. he must have cut corners to max out his profit.

when someone with an extreme tendency is tasked with such demanding activity u can always count on the fact that he will undeliver and cover it up with paint.

the point is the fact that someone that portrayed scrap as clean title after repairing it; cannot be trusted to have duly replaced vital parts. its possible he just patched up the parts. and then most offensive is the fact that he couldn't divulge the Salvage value

let's imagine that;

Last bid - $275

Additional fee - $1,000

Trucking/Towing to nearest port - $200

Shipping roro - $1, 200

Clearing - ₦500, 000
i don’t know what is wrong with u...

From the rubbish u wrote here,,, the total cost of this car is 500k + 850k = 1.65m + repairs

Sold for 2.2m

Ask ur self question!

Don't forget that alot of money would have been spent on repairs. dnt push this any further, just keep the report for Ur personal consumption. Over a year now, the old man has been working to own a 2008 Corolla due to the low fuel consumption.

We both talked about the car several times and because of the price, he went for a 2006.

So papa, a boss and also a father brought this Corolla to the office on Monday with dealer claiming papa is very lucky to get a clean title and accident free car like this.

Congratulations sir! congratulations sir!! everywhere(Civil servant na)

Sir, how much did you get it?

He said over 2.2m.

But i noticed that the bumper, headlamps and the grill are kind of not in line(Space between them).

So i shot the vin, the first picture and brought it to one of my thread for assistance(cosplay).

And i got this result.

Can i tell him?

The labor costs to fix this level of damage to acceptable standard before export to Nigeria would be significantly more than would be charged in Lagos.

So they get shipped in in their damaged state, sometimes are even declared as for-parts, for the very severely damaged vehicles, they make a killing on the import duty, 'fix' the vehicle - Which often is a shoddy process, what shady dealer would want to make the expenses to fix a deployed SRS assembly to standard, afterall- then the 'repaired' vehicles get a glossy coat of paint and get advertised by the fellows in the Autos Section as Accident-Free, with no VIN and no history.

An unsuspecting or naive fellow comes along and gets swindled into forking over some cash, almost always significantly overpriced.

Then the process restarts.

There's a reason why used car salespeople have such a bad rep.

cosplay how ur weekend? see you still giving those rogues fire..carry go...

This is pure wickedness.People get mind!

There is no wickedness there. The car got to Nigeria with about 1.5m. What about the money used in bringing the vehicle to its present state? I believe the seller did not even make up to 300k in this business.

The most important thing is that the buyer is enjoying his car.

Ignorance is not always bliss. What you don't know CAN hurt you.

Try not to get hung up on the pricing and focus on the deliberate withholding of relevant information necessary to make informed decisions and the deliberate misinformation and misrepresentation of damaged merchandise as otherwise undamaged by the seller.

No, that is certainly not the 'most important thing'. On that we will have to disagree.

The end does not always justify the means.

Most people here are jumping up and down talking rubbish. The "last bid" price is not necessarily the accepted final price. Very few people can afford a clean title corolla. Almost 90% of cars brought to the country are salvaged. That automatically reflects on the prices. Will anyone be willing to pay N3m plus for a Corolla?

These people are the same ones that will be yelling thief! As long as the damage does not affect the enjoyment of the car, i will say carry go!

Exactly.

I can buy an accidented car, good deal if the damage was properly repaired, but best to stay away from a vehicle insurance termed write off or salvage or any vehicle that won't pass a mechanical safety inspection to be driven on American roads.

But looking at the accident pics posted of the car, it would likely be an insurance write off. The cost of repair in the US would be more than the value of the car if using OEM parts plus labour.

95% of the cars sold in Nigeria are accidented cars.

Dont be fooled by how clean these cars look.

Most of our cars dealers are dubious, inhuman and very wicked. They only want your money.

I am speaking from experience. Most time, these cars are worked on before being sold. You and your mechanic may not be able to even trace these faults as they are "neatly packaged" .When you check with the VIN , you will be shocked.
obviously. That is why they are sold cheaper. A very clean version of that 06 corolla or one with an accident that was repaired on an insurance claim would cost close to $7000-$8000 here in Canada. How much more when you factor cost of shipping/clearing and all.
