Agro News Nigeria Trains Sesame And Bambara Nut Farmers In Jigawa by agronewsng(m): 2:43pm On May 04, 2018
In line with our vision of achieving a Nigeria sufficient in Food production and rich in agricultural produce exports, Agro News Nigeria held a Farmers Townhall in Gumel, Jigawa state on Tuesday, 17th April, 2018 at the Gumel Emirate Foundation.

The event was organized to reach out to sesame and bambara nut farmers in Gumel and its environs on the market potential of sesame and bambara nut, the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) of these crops and to unveil the company’s Farmers Empower Initiative – an avenue for Agro News Nigeria to provide Sesame and Bambara nut Farmers extension services, access to credit and access to market.

This event was graced by the Director of Jigawa state Agricultural and Rural Development Authoriy (JARDA), representative of Jigawa State Investment Promotion Agency, the Emirate council and 200 sesame and bambara farmers from Gumel, Gagarawa, Sule tankarkar, and Maigatari LGA.

The farmers in attendance used this opportunity to narrate the challenges they are often faced with. In line with Agro News Nigerian’s interventions, the farmers acknowledged that the challenges they face include;

- Lack of access to market
- Unavailability/ delay in the supply of seeds and agrochemicals by previous contractors or government agencies
- Low yield of bambara nut and
- High cost of fertilizer

They were also willing to become members of Agro News Nigeria’s Farmers Empower Initiative as a step towards finding lasting solutions to the challenges they presently face knowing that the company offers them free extension services, access to market and a possibility of an access to agricultural inputs


Agro News Nigeria is currently working with Sesame and Bambara nut farmers in Jigawa state to improve yield and also improve farmers' access to the market.

The 100 hectare Agro News Nigeria's sesame and bambara nut farms in Gumel is a model farm for sesame and bambara nut farming.
