Please what do you mean by hospital support staff? CHAI NIGERIA IS FINISHED. YOU MEAN HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONERS. YOU MEAN A PHARMACIST, MEDICAL LAB SCIENTIST, DIETITIAN AND NURSES WENT TO THE SCHOOL TO SUPPORT THE HOSPITAL AND NOT CARE FOR PATIENT. INFACT YOU ARE MAD AND THERE IS NO POINT READING YOUR TRASH TO THE END. MY FAMILY DOCTOR TOLD THAT DOCTORS DELIBERATE LIMITED THE PRACTICE OF OTHER PROFESSIONS SO AS TO LOOK SUPERIOR.
dechriscool:
The gang up against doctors is not only by allied health workers but also by some Nigerians. I did a post about how JOHESU members beat up Doctors at NAUTH just to registered their graviances against doctors in course o f this their strike .That post didn't see the day light.

However, the disparity in salary structure between doctors and JOHESU members can't be overemphasized.Read the statement of facts below to guard on the activities in the hospital

THE PATIENT COMES TO THE HOSPITAL TO SEE THE DOCTOR.

There are three group of people in the Hospital worldwide;

1. Doctor
2. Patients
3. Hospital support staff.

-A patient comes to a medical emergency unit rushed by his relatives.
-The DOCTOR sends for his file/folder to be retrieved by the MEDICAL RECORDS STAFF.
-The DOCTOR takes history from PATIENT and examines the PATIENT.
-The DOCTOR makes a diagnosis (or set of diagnosis-differential diagnosis).
-The DOCTOR asks the PHARMACIST to supply the drugs for the particular disease.
-The DOCTOR asks the NURSE to administer the drugs.
-The DOCTOR asks the PATIENT to go to Radiology department to do an X-RAY/CT-SCAN.
-The DOCTOR in the Radiology department (RADIOLOGIST) asks the RADIOGRAPHER to do the X-ray. The DOCTOR in the Radiology department (RADIOLOGIST) interprets the X-ray and writes a report to be taken to the DOCTOR in the Emergency.
-The DOCTOR in the Emergency unit uses the X-ray report to further treat the patient.
-The DOCTOR sends the PATIENT to the laboratory to do some tests.
-The DOCTOR in the laboratory (PATHOLOGIST) asks the LABORATORY SCIENTIST or LABORATORY TECHNICIAN to do the test or do the test himself if necessary.
The DOCTOR in the laboratory (PATHOLOGIST) interprets the report and sends the patient back to the doctor in the emergency.
-The DOCTOR evaluates the patient and asks for more drugs from the PHARMACY for the NURSE to administer.
-The DOCTOR admits the patient to the ward if patient is not good to go or discharges the patient if he is good.
-THE DOCTOR in the ward keeps on seeing the patient and evaluating his needs. THE DOCTOR calls for the assistance of the NURSE, PHARMACIST, LABORATORY SCIENTIST/TECHNICIAN, RADIOGRAPHER when the need arises.
But there is always a need for the DOCTOR to be in CONTACT with the progress of the patient.
-THE DOCTOR DISCHARGES the PATIENT home or CERTIFIES him dead as the case may be.

IT BEGINS WITH THE DOCTOR and PATIENT from admission and ends with DOCTOR and PATIENT on discharge from the hospital.

1. DOCTORS WORLDWIDE are LEADERS of the health sector in the best of centers.
-Google LIST OF BEST HOSPITALS IN THE WORLD.
A list of many hospital according to ranking would come up.
-Take the first 5, or 10, or 20 hospitals ONE BY ONE.
-For each hospital Google it's leadership.
-All would show you that the doctor is the head.
The CEO/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of all the hospitals have MD or MBBS as their basic qualification. (Most of these doctors have no any other non-medical qualification).

PLEASE GOOGLE FOR YOURSELF
-THE BEST HOSPITALS in the world.
-Then LEADERSHIP OF EACH HOSPITAL.

2.)DOCTORS ARE PAID FAR BETTER THAN OTHER SUPPORT STAFF WORLDWIDE.
This pay gets far different when the DOCTOR is a SPECIALIST: CONSULTANT (UK/INDIA) or an ATTENDING PHYSICIAN (USA).

Google the best hospitals in the world and the salary of the workers.

Google for yourself.
Do not be fed with lies.

3.) CAREER PROGRESSION for DOCTORS.
Doctors have two pathways for progression in Nigeria:
i. NORMAL CIVIL SERVICE where you are promoted to the next grade after every 3years.
ii. POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION, where you enroll into residency and is only promoted after rigorous academic and practical training and passing of professional examinations.
After NYSC the doctor pays heavily to write an exam called primaries. After the primaries he/she undergo extensive training as a REGISTRAR and after 3-5years write the PART 1 exams to become a SENIOR REGISTRAR. After another 3-5years he writes another exam to become a FELLOW/CONSULTANT. Each of PART 1 and 2 exams advance the doctor only one grade level (e.g Part 1 exam after 3-5 years moves a DOCTOR from grade 12 to 13. Part 2 after another 3-5moves a doctor from grade 13-14).
The pass rate of these exams generally is between 10-30%.
Its difficult to progress through the postgraduate pathway. You may spend more than 6years without promotion.

GOOGLE THE TRUTH.

YOU TALK LIKE A FULL. YOU SOULD ALSO PRODUCE THE MEDICINE YOU USE . NIGERIA DOCTOR NEEDS mind EVALUATION AND rehabilitation.
MrBigiman:

It's already that way dude. Moreover a nurse cannot be specialist in Oncology, she makes no single decision the specialist does. Even if she has spent 20years, a Senior registrar who has spent 3 yrs in oncology should earn more. A Doctor trumps every other person in the hospital, the hospital was built for him and patients troop in to see him. All other thrashy workers should do his bidding or resign. If they want to be doctors they should have passed Jamb. 90% of Lab scientist filled in Medicine at one time or the other for God sake, so also 98% of male BSC Nurses, the non graduate nurses went to nursing school because they were too dumb to pass Jamb, today they want to be on the same salary scale as Doctor. Pure stupidity!

Greedy set of doctors.

They talk about what is obtainable abroad, yet this same abroad is where a Nurse succesfully headed a province (state) health service in Canada. This can never happen in a shi!t hole country like Nigeria.

At least its clear where the problem in the health sector is coming from now. The doctors don't want other staff to enjoy a little increament of salary even after government has increased their slararies more than Three times in in four years. This is just a case of wickedness and man's inhumanity to man. The doctors are not the employer of labour but they are telling government what to do. It's a case of eating alone and wanting other people to die of hunger even though there is excess food to serve everybody. Let the world see how wicked the doctors are in Nigeria.

Let me tell you the truth early this year the government of Canada increased doctors salary but the doctors refused the increament and told the government to use the money to pay other health workers and improve the facilities in the hospitals for patients to enjoy. But in Nigeria the case is opposite.
johesu Is looking f pay parity with doctors and not just an increase in pay. does that make sense? where in the world is that done? they can fight for an increase but not parity

Aa a chartered accountant and a masters degree holder with over a decade professional experience, I will find it very annoying if someone who has a mere B.sc accounting plus few years experience is placed on the same level and salary scale as myself in an office. The same situation applies here

TRUE, DOES DOCTORS EVEN KNOW WE BUSINESS CONSULTANTS, PLEASE DOCTORS SHOULD FREE OTHER PROFESSION
chuksbogus:

You are not informed .Medicine and Nursing are different professions . A nurse is a consultant in surgical nursing not a consultant in surgery. Its the duty of the Dr to do the surgery and its the duty of the nurse to prepare that patient for surgery and nurse that patient to health after the surgery !! So I don't see why Drs should be fighting over noting. I don't blame them they are judge in their own case

Thank God the end of the book said pharmacy and patient assessment in pharmacy Not community health or medical or surgical management of a patient.
The patient will still have to see the medical doctor.
Pharmacists in Nigeria feel they are medical doctors because they assess patients who have been diagnosed and are already put on a treatment plan by medical doctors in the pharmacy.
You don't touch patients skin and you say you are equivalent to a medical doctor who doesnt perform surgeries. You guys are funny in Nigeria.

I'll won't dignify your senseless banter with a detailed response. But note this.

They're good Nigerian doctors making giant strides everyday.

That the average Nigerian like you is battered by poverty and can't afford healthcare services, ergo forcing them to turn the way of 'chemists' is no fault of the Nigerian doctor.

When chemists start handling cases of heart attacks, remind me to accord them all the accolades they deserve.

Chai Nigeria is finished. A nurse should be able to communicate her concerns to the doctor or consultant as part of patient advocacy, also the doctor should also address the concerns with facts. Please you need travel out of this country and visit a hospital.
borrelia:
When I read this JOHESU vs Doctors thing, I just laugh. How will you expect a doctor who has spent like 13-14 years in training as a CONSULTANT to be addressed and have equal benefits with someone who has years of experience. Think about it. So, if a consultant draws out a treatment plan for his/her patient, a nurse who has years of experience can change it because he/she now answers the name CONSULTANT. in the long run, is patients that will suffer it.

NMA is not against pay rise for anybody but ask that relativity be sacrosanct according to international best practice.. We must learn to respect professionalism in this country.
Johesu was formed to hang up against the doctors in the health sector because they feel with their strength they can arm twist the government.. Some of it's demands ate briddled with ego, jealousy and desire to reap where one didn't sow. The door is wide open for any who wishes to study medicine. the fault with this is that a laboratory scientist cannot make a diagnosis (trust me there are serious conditions that require the expertise of a doctor to diagnose ) a lab scientist is not trained enough to make diagnosis ...same for a radiographer etc.. for example optometrist own stores everywhere where they claim to treat eye conditions, but unfortunately, they can only cut you glass for refractive errors . They direct the patient tto go meet the ophthalmologist . There is no need duplicating profession. As it is everwhere in the world, if you want to make diagnosis, lead a department o hospital, go to the university, study medicine and surgery as same goes everywhere in the world, nigeria will not be different.
you are ignorant as to who an optometrist is and what an optometrist does. the problem with most nigerian med drs is ignorance. i am an optometrist and i don't work in stores but in a clinic. i attend to a pt seeking eye care services from start to finish. as in the tradition of d med drs, u guys hv fought so hard to suppress optometrist in govt hospitals and hv most relegated to just refraction, refuse to hv optometry interns in govt hospitals wit the hlp of ur colleagues dt re CMD's, therez no career growth for those in govt practice cos dey ve been forced to b under ophthalmology department whereas optometry is an independent profession. guy use google and educate urself on who an optometrist is and wht dey are trained to do. there are also specialist areas in optometry and we hv consultant optometrist as well as u hv consultant meds

Freddonance:

My dear, a pharmacist knows less than 1/1000 of what a doctor knows.
when doctors are discussing medicine a pharmacist will comprehend far less than one tenth(1/10) of what is discussed that is if he will understand it at all. The gap of knowledge between a doctor & a pharmacist is immeasurable.

This is very similar to what is going on in higher institutions. Non academic staffs feel they should have equal pay and benefits forgetting that both of them get their qualifications through different level of work. I find it funny that NMA had to release this memo for the employer (Govt) to be aware. Their request for relativity is common sense. A doctor goes through many rigors to be able to practice, just like a lecturer has to Keep upgrading himself and publish papers in order to keep his job so they can't be on the same level with other medical personnel

"IF ALL THESE OTHER MEDICAL OFFICIALS ARE NOT ALSO IMPORTANT, OR USELESS AS THESE DOCTORS CLAIM, THEN, Y IS IT THAT HOSPITAL ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN GRINDED TO A HALT IN MOST HOSPITAL FACILITIES AND HAS LED TO LOSS OF LIVES IN MOST OF THEM?

DOES IT MEAN ALSO THAT THE DOCTORS ARE ALSO USELESS WITHOUT THEM?

THE NIGERIA HEALTH SECTOR: A MIRROR OF THE ANIMAL FARM
Current events in the Nigeria’s federal ministry of health have taken my mind back to the George Orwell’s classic novel “Animal Farm”. The animals ganged up to removed the evil human who in their own wisdom they saw as cruel and abusive only to enthrone the pigs as their leaders. Well, one particular pig, Napoleon, hid nine puppies until they grew and then began to terrorize, maim and kill any animal that questions its authority with these dogs. In the end, the animals ended up in a worse situation than before and the pigs grew fatter at the expense of the labour of the other animals, eggs went missing, milk went missing and animals also went missing, end of story.
It is significant to note that the health care system of this our great country has nosedived over the decade in the hands of the leaders of this sector. The system seems to be crawling and struggling while a select few are squeezing the milk of the sector, collecting enormous salaries and attending international conferences, while the vast majority of the workers in that same ministry continue to wallow in pains of poor remuneration and limited opportunities. However, whenever questions are raised to determine the main cause of anomaly and suggestions are made to bring sanity back into the sector we are reminded of how important Doctors are and how they must continue to be in charge. (All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others are). When agitations continue, they begin to play the card of international best practice, which is carefully painted to favour the oppressor and continue to bind the oppressed.
The system has been designed to fail. Whenever any suggestion or idea comes up that seems to challenge the status quo but has the potential to improve the sector, the ones in charge who sees these suggestions as a threat to their rulership begin to kick against it and start quoting international best practice. This to me is an insult to this great country because it suggests that we are not capable of thinking of lasting solutions to our problems ourselves, so we have to copy.
The persistent write-ups and press releases by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has continued to fill me with dismay, it begs the question. “What are you afraid of? What effect does a better payment for others have on yours? If other health workers are better paid, is it not a motivation for them to work better and improve our health care delivery? What do you have to gain from destroying others, are you not indirectly destroying yourself?
The federal government must be aware that the ministry of health and all hospitals do not need a doctor, medical scientist, pharmacist or any health professional to head it because their allegiance will be to the profession they belong and this will be to the detriment of that sector and other health workers. We need a public administrator who has no alliance with any health professional. Who understands administrations and can bring balance and equity to the system. Who will ensure medical laboratories are well equipped and our pharmacies are well stocked. Whose concern will not be how to destroy other health workers to ensure they do not challenge his authority but how to develop them professionally. Who understands that the hospital is a multifaceted organization that needs to be handled by someone who judge in fairness.
Until we get the leadership right, the sector will still be in a mess, the minister will continue to deny agreements, the NMA and MDCAN will continue to manipulate the federal government and our people will continue to suffer under a failed health sector leadership. undecided angry

Pharmacist are Soo useless in Nigeria dt most of they are patent medicine dealers, who needs them when an elementary 6 graduate in my street can dispense drugs lol

MLS is so so important infact most time after seeing them u may not need to see a doctor esp here in Nigeria, infact most ppl call them doctor.

They even killed my dad. I hope to president this country some day just to deal with them thoroughly. I have a master plan already in my mind.
Sorry for the loss. But you could have easily sued the defaulting Doctor who had committed that grievous error which lead to his death. Autopy though comes with much financial responsibilities but It would have helped you to fight your just course.
In as much as you've chosen to let it go, harbouring hatred and contempt for the future against life savers not necessarily the "defiant" seems childish and ridiculous to me.
No man is infallible; I'm in no way justifying his actions or inactions but you might have made the same mistake if you were in his shoes.
Doctors only treats and hope for the best, meanwhile, it's only God and maybe fate that determines who survive or not.

My dear, a pharmacist knows less than 1/1000 of what a doctor knows.
when doctors are discussing medicine a pharmacist will comprehend far less than one tenth(1/10) of that is if he will understand it at all. The gap of knowledge between a doctor & a pharmacist is immeasurable.

what about a physiotherapist?

Nothing like equity. Doctors lay down their youth and all to practice for humanity. A thoroughly bleeped lab gal who cohabited through out her nondemanding 5years wants to be on the same scale as him. Mention a single sane country where doctors are one the same scale as pharmacist, nurses and lab Scientist. You have ur internet, use it. If u show me any advanced country with that model, then I will immediately switch sides. If not, shame on u and all Johesu members.
so you think other health workers played away there time in the university? you must be very funny!, 90% of the acclaimed physicians can't even graduate from pharmacy let alone medlab,...let me still remind you that JOHESU has a special pay package which they are only asking the federal govt. to improve!,...FG can pay NMA 1 million naira everyday, its not our business, I wonder, until some of u NMA guys drop this lordship mentality health sector is going no where!, am a Medlab scientist and am proud of my job.
