Yoruba in Abia appoint monarch
Latest News May 25, 2010 Umuahia—Alhaji Adebayo Azeez, President of the Yoruba Forum, an umbrella body of Yoruba associations, said the forum is to appoint an Oba in Abia to cater for the interest of the Yoruba community in the state.

Azeez said in Umuahia, yesterday that the measure was necessary to enable various Yoruba groups in the state unite, their political affiliations and other differences notwithstanding.

He applauded the cordial relationship existing between the Yorubas and other ethinc groups in the state.

Azeez, who is the pioneer leader of the group, commended the process that led to his emergence as the leader of the body.

He said, however, that anyone who emerged as the new Oba would be someone influential, educated and philanthropic, to achieve the objectives and yearnings of the people.

He said the Yoruba were ready to partner with Abia State government in the task of ensuring peace and developing the state, noting that the Oba would be the rallying point of Yorubas in Abia.
“We are united in this cause of enthroning an Oba because since the creation of the state 19 years ago, this singular headship has eluded us,” he said.

He said the organisation would contribute to the growth and development of its host communities through conceptualisation and execution of projects.

No reason to lie just to prove some yeye point.

And please answer this question.

Why not stay and pay taxes in the east to allow the governments over there to have money to develop the east?  why pay it in Lagos and allow the Lagos state government to develop Lagos state with your money?

Does it make sense to you?

The lace clothing material lines in Ariaria and Onitsha markets have sizable Yoruba trading populations. They pay markets fees, etc, just like the Igbos in Lagos

Yes, Igbos in Lagos pay taxes but make huge profits or turnover from the huge buying population of Lagos. So the tax they pay to the govt is overly replenished by their profits. If it does not make economic sense to them, they would not be there, I guess

You call the silly list you posted investments?

1. Some school opened in 2005

2. I don't see any Yoruba related taint in the story.

3. Some folks getting together and talking about cooperation.

Now, tell me how the crap you posted = investments.

lol @ Ariaria market women, you really are a comedian.

The question is, are they re-investing their so called profits in their own land? The fact is, your towns and villages are empty because the rich folks are not investing and creating jobs for the young folks back east, so all your young folks end up heading to Lagos and other Yorubal land for survival.

That's a fact.

Babapupa:

Sometimes I wonder if some of you passed ENGLISH comprehension test at all.
Let me helep you summarize them:

1. The first e.g. shows that a Yorubaman is the owner of a large and reputable private school in Enugu State (that is investment that pays taxes)
2. The second e.g. shows that a Yoruba man is the owner of the only private taxi cab company in Abia with 100 taxis (that is taxable investment)
3. The third e.g. shows Yoruba community in Abia organizing themselves to begin to contribute to the development of their host community
Do you want more examples?

Yes, they are reinvesting. That is why you find the best houses in Nigeria in Igboland. Many of those are owned by Lagos-based Igbo, som eof whom left Igboland only with travelling bags. FACT. Many of the current Nnewi industrialists made their seed money from Lagos.

Also do not forget that GLO and typical Yoruba-owned Banks (GT, FCMB, etc) have some of their biggest outposts (I mean outside of Lagos) in Igboland. Those pay taxes to the state govts too.

The story below is also to buttress the FACT that a sizable number of Yorubas live and do business (investment) in Anambra. They must be paying some charges to the state govt coffers, like their Igbo counterparts in Lagos

Yoruba community in Anambra State condemns kidnap of 21 Igbo traders
By Okey Maduforo, Correspondent, Awka

Yoruba community in Anambra State, under the umbrella of Egbe Omo Oduduwa has condemned the alleged kidnap of 21 Igbo traders in Owo, Ondo State, warning that it is a threat on the unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria as a nation.

The traders were allegedly kidnapped last Friday by three militant groups known as Palace Boys, Eyin Ogbe Boys and Iloro Youths, who demanded millions of naira as ransom before they would be released.

The militants had last year kidnapped 16 Igbo traders before the latest incident which led to a petition to the state Commissioner of Police Mr. Charles Dawodu, by Ndigbo in the community.

Speaking with Daily Independent in Awka, Anambra State, the chairman of **Egbe Omo Oduduwa** in the area Baba Tunde Adegbenjo, said the incident sends danger signals, adding that there is no state in the country that do not have militants.

"We want to condemn the action and attitude of these militants. We have militants all over the federation and they should consider the fact that if they continue with this other people will revenge and when they do, it becomes crisis everywhere.

"So we are not happy with the attitude of our people back home who gather themselves together and call themselves militants.

"The relation of any of those victims would look for people around to kidnap and those of us outside the Yoruba land or non-indigenes generally would become victims. If this type of thing continues we will have no option but to point to the residence of part of Yoruba land where these activities are taking place.

"The place where it happened is Owo community, so instead of allowing them to go and revenge on Ogwoko man or Akure or Ondo town, we will now point to the residence of the Owo people among us; so that they will go and pick them. This is because things like this spread like wild fire and we will not allow that to happen."

Adegbenjo further noted that security is very important in business interaction and such a thing can affect business between visitors and owners of the land.

"If an Igboman do not feel safe to do business in Yoruba land they will not go there and those of us in Igbo land will not be comfortable and these are the type of incident we experienced some time ago, when the Hausa people had problems with the Igbos and many lives were lost.

"We do not want this type of thing and this is how it starts. So we have to tell our people to stop all these nonsense they are doing. It will not discourage economic development and sound interpersonal relationship in the country."

He urged the Ondo State government to take action quickly to protect the interest of the Igbo in the area as Yoruba and other ethnic groups are being protected in the South East zone; adding that the people at the zone and their respective governments have been friendly and displayed the spirit of brotherhood among visitors and settlers in Igbo land.
