Kwara

As Kwarans await the emergence of the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) for the 2011 general elections, Islamic scholars in the state have called on stakeholders saddled with the task of picking the candidate to desist from presenting a woman governorship or deputy governorship candidate for the election.

The group, under the banner of Islamic Scholars of Ilorin, in a communiqué issued Monday and made available to newsmen, said any such move would be against the will of Allah. They said the Sharia position on female leadership is subsidiary and not to occupy the grand leadership of any society.

The communiqué read in part: “We as descendants and disciples of Sheikh Aalim, Sheikh Kamaldeen Al-Adabiyy, Sheikh Adam Al-llory and many other scholars, therefore see it as our collective obligation before our creator, then as a duty we owe those erudite scholars of our beloved town of Islamic principle to set the records straight on the position of Islam in such a case.

“This is being done without any motive to either support or work against the candidacy of any aspirant. “While it is unequivocally stated in Sharia literature that a woman can occupy, and indeed women have occupied, the position of subsidiary leadership, as ministers, commissioners etc, the grand leadership of a state or a nation is exclusively for men as the masculinity is usually stated conspicuously, as a prerequisite for the position of leadership of a state or a nation.

“Leadership in Islam is a responsibility and not a privilege; hence, restriction of grand leadership to males alone never suggests discrimination against women. The fact we had/have female leaders in very few muslims countries-compared to the overwhelming majority of them.”

These fanatical muslim scholars would not stop till Nigeria is under Sharia rule and Nigeria becomes another Afghanistan. Has anyone noticed that these fanatics have no respect whatsoever for our constitution and use the Quaran as their excuse from everything from paedophilia (Zamfara state ex governor) to Denial of fundamnetal Human rights? What would be the next thing? Maybe they would say Goodluck should resign as a Christian can not rule Nigeria and of course they would quote some sunnis form the Quaran to justify their views. This should not be viewed as the rantings of a few fanatics but as a collective assault to our rights and freedom.

What do you guys like making noise about everything? It is democracy, if you don't agree with the muslim scholars, you simply vote whoever(in this case the woman) you want. Its like you guys don't understand democracy yet. You want everybody to agree to the same thing? If we all agree on the same thing, we wouldn't have to go to the polls, would we?

Some of u guys think that democrazy is a package theory, that should be revered, studied and put aside and followed rigidly just like the study of the koran and other dogmatic religious books that are keeping you guys enslave to urselves, forgetting that democracy is dynamic, dimensional and progressive,it's about the people and about the freedom of human souls.

Evolvement for the good of all.

Who still wants to know why Nigeria is going backwards?
Nigeria actually used to be ruled by a female. Note that until 1960, we were under Britain, and Britain has a beautiful, and big-ass-woman as their queen. These "scholars" took orders and bowed and obey the British queen, now all of a sudden, they have remembered what the koran says.
