There was commotion at the Kano State office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as supporters of a former Kano State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Aspirant, Ibrahim Shekarau, got detained by the anti-graft agency.

Recall, that Ibrahim Shekarau had recently declared to contest for the 2019 Presidency, on the platform of the PDP.

A witness revealed that hundreds of supporters of Shekarau thronged the Hajj Camp Road office of the anti-graft Agency, to protest what they called “persecution” by the Agency.

Shekarau arrived at the EFCC office, but was however blocked from gaining entrance into the Agency’s premises by his supporters.

The overwhelming crowd almost overpowered security personnel on duty, who had to call for reinforcement from sister security organisations.

“The Police had to use teargas and fire some shots in the air, to disperse the crowd”, a witness, Abba Yunusa, said.

As at the time of publishing this report, Shekarau was still being detained at the Agency’s office.

The former Governor and the co-defendants, are expected to be arraigned on Thursday, before the Federal High Court, in Kano, on charges of money laundering.

Shekarau’s Media Assistant, Aminu Sule, has alleged that the former Governor was being persecuted by the Agency for his criticism of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The EFCC however, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that it had concluded arrangement to arraign Shekarau, alongside three others, before a Federal High Court, in Kano, on Thursday.

Shekarau will be charged alongside, Aminu Wali and Mansur Ahmed, for allegedly conniving to collect N950 million, part of the $115 million allegedly distributed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, ahead of the 2015 general elections, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed in the statement.

“It is further alleged that the defendants distributed the money without going through a financial institution, in clear violation of provisions of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act.

“The defendants are currently being detained at the Commission‘s Kano Zonal Office, awaiting their arraignment tomorrow”, he said.

2019, will be the year of arrests of opposition figures.

Many might have forgotten that the current IG , Idris was the CP of Kano State when Buhari polled 2Million votes and Jonathan only 150,000 in the last 2015 election.
The then INEC Returning Officer in Kano was burnt to death together with his family in their home, immediately after the election and the result announced.

Till date no arrest nor anything found as the cause of the fire .

As if it is a payback for a job well done,CP Idris was promoted to IGP over 12 other senior CPs, over 22 senior AIGs, and of course over the 7 most senior DIG police officers to become IGP immediately Buhari was sworn in.

Every other officer that was senior to CP Idris was retired just to make way for the now IG Idris to occupy this highest position.

Till date the case has not seen the light of day. All the registered voters in Kano for 2015 presidential election voted 100% for APC. No single invalid vote, no card reader malfunction. Go figure
