Students of Elizade Private University in Ondo State have taken to social media to complain bitterly about the lack of basic amenities in their school including lack of water, light and snakes everywhere in their hostel.

In a special report sent in to LIB, one of the students wrote;



The school is a prison yard for the students. NO water, NO light, snakes EVERYWHERE, Terrible food in the only cafeteria that serves uncooked or spoilt food to students. Today 31st of May,2018, the only thing (WiFi/gym) that was helping the students with assignments(which is paid for as it is part of our school fees), the school has now cut off stating bad performances across the departments.



There’s no form of social/recreational activities to help the student or distract them from school stress(and they want to remove the WiFi/gym). Countless proposals have been written to the school’s management which they keep dismissing, yet they keep on asking us to write more in a bid to make it seem like they’re working. We have been running on one generator for almost 2 years now.



Students are judged because of how they look based on superficial things like extra piercings, full hair, etc and seen as touts or worse and sometimes subjected to drug tests. We have a student consultative forum that is meant to be the “voice of the students” but they are handpicked by the authorities and they are just as voiceless as regular students. The little water we find, is always coloured and causes severe skin irritation. Whenever we complain to the school authorities, they either shut you down or even send you packing. They conduct illegal blood tests on students and expel them whether the blood test shows drug use or not.Students are being harassed. Nobody is safe anymore, the standards of education and living are very poor. When parents complain about it, they lie to the parents about their ward’s behaviour and activities in school. Enough is Enough



Another student added that, ‘It seems that Chief Michael Ade Ojo (the founder of this school) isn’t aware of the things happening to the students. It is the registrar Omololu Adegbenro who has more day than the Vice chancellor that is ruining this school. He has to be sacked before this school can see any growth or development

Today, LIB exclusively published claims by students of Elizade Private University in Ondo State complaining bitterly about the lack of basic amenities in their school including lack of water, light and snakes everywhere in their hostel.



In a swift response, the school management has issued a statement describing the claims by the students as ‘false allegations’.

The attention of the Management of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State has been drawn to the false information on the social media, alleging that there is no light, water and internet facilities in the University. The Management wishes to put the records straight by stating as follows:

(1) that the University enjoys regular supply of electricity from Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), and each time there is outage from the power company, the generators are put on standby to provide electricity. It is not true that the University’s generators broke down two years ago without repairs.

(2) that the supply of water to the University Campus has been stable and constant, except sometimes last week when all the University’s overhead water tanks were washed in order to ensure that water supplied to the University was clean. During this time, provision was made to make water available across the University. Supply of water from the University Dam has since been restored to the University upon the completion of the washing of the tanks.

(3) the University Management takes seriously the security of staff and students, hence, we ensure that the hostels and Staff Quarters, and indeed, all parts of the University are regularly fumigated. The case of a snake killed around the hostel two weeks ago did not go without the University taking some actions to prevent a repeat of same.

The University Management wishes to state that the issue of discipline among students is not negotiable. This explains why the University’s degrees are awarded to candidates who have satisfied the institution both in character and in learning. At Elizade University, our doors are open to students and we expect that if they have issues bothering their minds, they should approach the University Management for solution.

While Management, and indeed, the University Senate would continue to pursue the ideals of the University with a view to ensuring that all our graduates fit into the larger society, we also want to implore our students to study their Handbooks and take another look at their matriculation oath as no amount of blackmailing would deter the University Management from instilling discipline.

It should be noted that no amount of falsehood being perpetrated by some disgruntled students would make the Management depart from the path of honour.

Yes

We know these things happen but private universities bury it within their campuses. The University was reckless to allow this into the public sphere. Students would always be referred to their handbooks to review rules that refrain them and their parents from protesting the injustice. I do hope things get better on that campus.

Private universities are even more shitty than government owned ones they are just riding on the glory of covenant university.

"The students are just lazy i am a student of Elizade and the students are more than ungrateful. Most of them are just angry the school is now sending away smokers and co.... We are given 24/7 wifi and the performance of students where going down so they attempted to put a time on it then student start rioting and went to lie to linda... A Covenant University student is using 10gb per month Wifi while we are using that just to download series... we are not forced to church or fellowship all u have to do is just go to class wake up early and bath so when water will go round.... This same students should go to ABUAD and see what students are enduring... we use our complete smartphones and laptop alongside no restrictions on religion and you can leave school with reasonable reasons and all you need is just read and pass what more do you need?"

Elizade should please pass these students to Covenant university so they can be taught real life lessons. Covenant would treat ur f up no matter who your papa be. If they didn't train you well at home Covenant would give you vital home training that even your parent would be nodding in agreement

It makes me really so happy when all these rich spoilt brats are being dealt with...
