Because the congratulations you are donning to the members defeats/belittles the honour.

The degree of such calibre is not awarded. It is merited.

And so your beaming of smiles and elation at the possibility of being called doctor is ludicrous and sadenning. If indeed you are doctors you dont need to congratulate anyone

Rather you will see it as normal as an ordinary mbbs degree title as doctors see it. Bearing the title does not make you a doctor.

Being a doctor is what makes you one

Double trouble.
Barely two weeks now, there was a News that Medical science in Nigeria has upgraded their academic/clinical curriculum to Doctorate degree. ie, they will spend 6 years in school, like physicians, and graduate as a doctor of MLS. This, in no doubt generated a lot of controversy between the physicians and scientists. A lot of debate, reactions and counter reactions has been going on since then and those against it (the NMA members) have been reasoning and doubting the feasibility of such in Nigeria.
Today, Physiotherapy has been elevated to that same enviable height of awarding doctor of Physical therapy (DPT) after first degree in University. Radiography is on the way. Pharmacy too have there's etc.
The question now is ' what will become of some physicians who always hang their shoulders high just because of the title 'Dr.' ? How will NMA allow this to take effect when they have been reasoning that it is only their members has that seemed birth rite to answer in a hospital? When everybody becomes doctor now, where will they go and hind their pride and ego that has crippled the nations health system? Meanwhile, not all of them are like that, mana ndi agwaru amarugo.
Up DPT!!!
DMLS!!
DPharm!
You have come to stay and no one can stop you.

Ode! DPT has been the first degree of some developed countries like US and UK. You can't practice outside Nigeria in US.... without DPT. So it's worthy of celebration.

It's not about the title. It's about the knowledge and character.

You meant to post covetousness not envy.

You see even as a physiotherapist you have already failed. Talk less of being a doctor of physiotherapy grin

That is where Nigerians is getting it wrong.
You even MBBS is a Bachelor of Medicine and not Doctor of medicine. Must you all answer the title doctors? Typical Nigeria title mentality. Don't worry very soon we would have doctor of nursing, doctor of health record too SMH

Congrats to them. At least let them see how much of a liability being called Dr could be when people ask are u a Medical Doctor and they say I am a DPT. Already my friends with PharmD are grumbling, about how their employers fail to give them any extra status despite their ridiculously bogus portfolio.

The Nigeria health Sector, just like MMM, will definitely go through a pause and reset mode, and like Sergey Mavrodi, the lazy, jealous, obese and ugly drivers of these madness will phase out of circulation.

To be frank the title Doctor was initially meant for PhD holders before MBBS smuggled the title, they were called Physicians. By the way let's check the dictionary meaning of a Doctor aside the PhD holders. A doctor is someone who treats patients. Who is a physiotherapist? He is a licensed professional qualified to treat patients through physical methods like electrotherapy, manipulative therapy, exercise therapy etc. The difference between the physician and the physiotherapist is treatment with drugs. To further validate my claim check the WHO definition of all the medical fields. As a matter of fact if u are not a Doctor of physiotherapy u cant touch patients in the developed world. We Nigerians are just enemy of progress, we have some of them in this group. DPT is a welcome development and has come to stay in Nigeria.
