sorry to ask oh...
Did you have any idea of whom God is?
Or what the work of the Holy Spirit is?

If Jesus Christ says that the Holy Spirit will direct us in all things is marriage not one of the all things?

First of all if you are sold out to God your choice becomes nothing.
If God is really your Lord you have no choice of your own any more.

Well I don't know about my Pastor said in marriage but I know about God said.

I don't know if you are married but I am married and I married my wife based on God's direction. One thing you should understand is that if you have not been close to God beforehand He won't start to just direct you when it comes to marriage. there must have been a total closeness and He must have been directing you in other issues long even before marriage comes up.

Sir i started praying about my marriage at about when I was 14. I wasn't praying for God to give me a wife then but that whenever I would be ready that He should guide me to the right woman. I am grateful to Him because He did guide me. I can't stop thanking God for making me to obey Him and marry the woman He sent to me. Right now I am already praying for my children that whenever their time come, that God should help them just as He has helped myself and my wife and I also pray for all their relationships.

Brother let this thing sink deep into your head. Marriage is 75% spiritual, 10% phisical and 15% financial.
If you win the spiritual side the rest would naturally fall into place. This is why in the olden days our forefathers use powerful charms time hold their families together. Some where polygamous but with the help strong charms they make the women to obey each other and there would be no friction. The man would be called "Odogwu."
I myself as a Born again Christian hold my family with prayers and also liveout what I teach my family members for them to see.
Those that married either for financial or phisical have little or no peace.

Having said all this: I am not saying that everyone that says God told them were really told by God. Some people intimidate others by saying God said. I didn't tell my wife God said anything to me until we were preparing for our traditional marriage, that was when I told her my experience and she also told me what she did at that time which was a confirmation of a prayer prayed.
If I am a woman and you approach me with God said I will not give you face and I might never prayed about it. Approach a woman like you never heard from God and allow God show her signs. That was what I did.

So Sir before you go online to set confusion in people's mind please and please again think.

I don't even know if you are even s Christian.
If you are not a Bible practicing Christian you won't understand anything.
Christianity is beyond going to church

Another nice one.

When I was single I was always weary of brother that come with 'God said' infact I saw them as opportunists that want to hide under church to choose a sister.

God is the originator of marriage and knows what is best for us.

He that "Findeth" a wife findeth a good thing and obtains favor from God .

How about this?: "A good wife is a gift from the Lord Prov.19:14" Try and reconcile it with Ps.127 that says "Except the Lord builds they labour in vain that build" or to another verse that says "The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong but it is the Lord that shows mercy". Then you will realise a man's search will end up in vain if not guided by God. Paul wrote, I planted, Apollo watered but God gave the increase" to show that in the long run that even in our so called efforts God's help is needed

Pavarottii:

How do u hear from God and u know is God talking of not instincts or pastors or parents.?

Sorry for bumping in

You develop a relationship, led him lead you in small small things you will know how he speaks with you and then by the time big decisions come you will just flow. Pastors should be a confirmation that's all whatever they say should be what you already know or what you are 'feeling' with the help of the holy spirit.

E.g you are praying about a sister all looks okay but there's this uneasiness in your spirit you just feel something is not right sha then you ask pastor for guidance and possibly because he may be more spiritually mature he may just tell you something is not right too. He may even know exactly what it is and just tell you to hold on about the sister and pray that God should reveal what it is to you, you pray and then Gbam you get exactly what caused the uneasiness. You may just see someone physically who may tell you a secret about the person that he/ she hid from you, you may have dream you may stumble on some documents, the person may just show you his/ her true color. Different ways of manifestation

It is important that the individual himself hears from God personally so that if / when challenges come you will not say aaah it's pastor xyz that said it's God will ooo blabla bla.

I had an experience I won't forget, there was a guy who wanted to marry me we practically grew up in church together before everyone went to university I still attended church because I went to school from home. I even knew 2 ladies he had dated. He just chated me up on fb some years later he wanted to marry blabla bla. I laughed and well we didn't say anything about it again, he came home a year later and came to my house we gisted and was like he wants to marry me. I knew I personally didn't pray about it like that, I knew his parents we grew up together I felt it was enough, I was like okay let's see how it goes.

I got admission for a PG course so I got a shared apartment with someone in another part of Lagos which incidentally was around the same area he stayed so we would see at school in the evening. He took me to his place to know his apartment once. 2 months later he started misbehaving sha well I was like that's his problem we didn't see as often as we did in those 8 weeks, I just felt guys and their wahala.

So one day some weeks later I had a dream something about a pregnancy that someone had for him. I asked him he was like no etc etc. I didn't know someone was even pregnant for him. I had the feeling in my spirit because that dream had a strong impression on me anyway I cleared my mind from all worries I had exams to write I was not about to fail because it seems he impregnated someone, I will deal with that later, I think I casually prayed about it. I prepared and wrote my papers.

One day I was sleeping early in the morning around past six, I practically felt someone wake me up and said stand up go to 'xyz' house now. It was so strong that I couldn't ignore I just brushed my teeth washed my face and wore clothes I didn't even bathe. I was just wondering this early morning at a man's house why na I have never been there except the day I went to know the place. Shey they will not say sister xyz is going to brothers house.

Anyway I was not going to ignore because I KNEW I was led to go to that place. So I got there all was quiet and knocked and a lady opened the door I said I am asking of xyz she went to call someone and a pregnant 'supposed ex' opened, I wasn't really shocked so I greeted her and told her I wanted to see xyz she went to call him and he was so shocked to see me grin and said we should go outside to talk okay ooo. I had already seen what God wanted me to see so I simply asked him about the money he was owing that was for my friend angry

Till this day I believe God led me to that place that day to use my own korokoro eyes to see. the whole relationship lasted about 4 months I think and incidentally she was around 4 months pregnant by my own calculation of the size of the bump.

I met my husband about 3 months later. grin

Many people have been decieved into terrible marriages or prevented from marrying a good spouse in the name of "My Pastor said" or "GOD said".

I believe there is so much hypocrisy surrounding this matter. Lets face it..how come people don't seek GOD's face or ask a pastor for confirmation if the prospective spouse is an extreme opposite of what they desire..?

How many educated ladies will bother to ask GOD or pastor to confirm if a known armed robber is the one should such woos for marriage?
How many Guys will go to GOD to confirm for them if a popular LovePeddler is the one? But often times we tend to fool ourselves going to a pastor or going to bother GOD to tell us if a seemingly desirous prospective partner comes our way and i tend to wonder.

In the entire scriptures, there were only two instances where GOD expressly gave a clear direction concerning choosing a spouse and in those two instances, it was a very difficult choice and that was when God commanded the prophet Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom.Hosea 1:2. And the second instance was when GOD sked Joseph to marry Mary who was already pregnant.

GOD respects our freedom of choice and for the Christians, we are encouraged to be yoked with fellow Believers and as far as GOD is concerned, A man has the sole responsibility to find a wife and once he finds one and marries her, he obtains favour from GOD. Proverbs 18:22.

The summary of this piece is that we should stop deceiving ourselves by saying 'Prophet said, My pastor said, Alfa said...' because in the real sense, it is our mind telling us what we want to hear. You can rely on your intuition or peculiar signs that gives you confirmation but we should stop hiding behind those words 'GOD SAID'

As a man,it is your paramount duty to search so pray to GOD for guidance and as a lady, pray to GOD that the type of man you desire finds you.

Just as we can see from the scriptures,if GOD ever tells you to marry a certain person then it is most certain that the choice of spouse will be very difficult for you to accept and this is the way you will know that indeed, it is GOD's choice for you

I hope this makes sense.

My brother I love your post, but you generalised it and used "GOD SAID" inappropriately.

I am a living example of God's grace and directive in marriage. Note that my case is not to be used to generalise too, because not all will receive such grace.

For mention, I am in my 6th year in marriage and can tell you that there is no better marriage than mine.

When I first planned to propose to a girl whom I thought I loved, an Angel of God visited me in a vision and clearly warned me not to. He told me to ask Him when I become ready for it (clearly I was not, it was a peer influence) and that he will come to show me. Eh!

About two years later, I prayed to God earnestly and He sent him to me again. He came and showed me my wife sitting with her mother standing behind her. I objected in the vision and he asked me why. I quickly told him that I loved fair ladies.
He laughed at my ignorance and told me "that is what you want, but not what you need". He further told me many things about the lady he was showing me. Thank you Jesus.

Can't write half my encounter here, but just a few more lines. I initiated the relationship after over a year or more. I soon ran out without a reasonable issue. Within the following year, I never called her on phone for once and never spoke with her. Fully determined not to go back to her. But, God is merciful.

I tried initiating other relationships, each of which he warned me not to try. He even visited people (who entirely knew nothing about what I was passing through) in revelations and sent them to come and warn me about the intending relationships. Note that I never even entered any other one. Just intentions of heart, still within me.

When I prayed and asked Him to reveal the right person to some people who knew nothing about us, He did. A colleague at work (he didn't know I was battling a choice issue) came and told me a revelation and how he was shown a lady who was supposed to be my wife. He described her without mincing words. (My wife wears no make-up. She is dark. She was wearing a low-cut until our wedding) She had unique features with which she can be described. When I brought pictures, he pointed at the person he saw. An old woman (my mother's elder sister who visited her) got exactly the same and described her to my mom. Wow! Not an imagination. I had several convincing interactions with God.

Today, I am enjoying my marriage. I couldn't have asked for anything better. My marriage can inspire you, if you see us. But, you know what? Till date, we have not had a child and we are living gloriously in harmony. We have passed through many hurdles and are soaring higher. Day by day we experience grace unspeakable. We will have our own children and bring them up in the fear of God, but that will be at God's own time too.

I narrated this little to tell you that God still directs marriages. But not all will receive such grace. I don't subscribe to my pastor said. That is closer to hell, these days. But, if a man has Christ and the Holy Spirit, he will know the leading of God and the voice of the Holy Spirit. Nothing can be better than following God's leading. I am a witness.

Immaculate conception is a lie.. Joseph was the one that got Mary pregnant, they just weren't married at the time.

Mr. philistine!, the point is God directs, don't allow your pastor to choose for you or say God said!

look at it like this way, if he is a son of God, and you are a son of God, why would God tell him to tell you to marry someone, if he (God) can just tell you?

The comment of an Ode, smells a mile off. Since u doggedly believe that despite the bible, God still speaks to us on this matter of marriage, or other thing at all, can u explain why several so called God-directed marriages crash so terribly due to the fact that the mates are radically incompatible, but for Pastor's vision? I have seen and read many of such. The bible has spelt out wat we are to look out for in a mate, yet u ppl who follow with ur lips while ur hearts are far away from the scriptures, formulate stories and rely on stories. 2 Timothy rightly described ur ilk

So man cannot get married again, something so... mundane. Unless your conman pastor okays it.

You people really think a god superintending the egos, pride, and evil machinations of 7 billion people and hundreds of billions of other lifeforms as well as trillions of other natural phenomena really has the time, patience, and temperament to indulge your pathetic pastors as they're so keen to make you believe?

You think 'god' will stop his busy schedule of wreaking havoc across the cosmos to discuss who Gbenga should or should not marry?

On behalf of the members of Holy Ghost Gang, Lemme answer you.
God only told Abraham to let Hagar to go because Sarah was agitating for her departure when she saw Ishmael making fun of Isaac. God told Abraham that he Abraham's family line would continue through Isaac but he would also make Ishmael a great nation hence, when the child was crying in the desert God provided comfort. (Genesis 21: 8-21)

2. God didn't tell Isaac to get married outside, Abraham made that decision by himself when he sent his servant to go and get his son a wife. Read (Genesis 24: 1-4)

B. Samson: was not commanded not to marry sef. God actually wanted him to marry the Philistine woman but it doesn't say anywhere that God told him to marry her. He actually loved her. And when he couldn't marry her, he dealt with them. Judges 14: 3-5 (NCV)

Samson was dedicated to God so he didn't shave his hair. That was the custom at the time.

God is interested in EVERYTHING we do. If NOT, there wouldn't have been 2 Chorithians 5:10 '....account for everything we do in bodily form......'
Even comments we make on nairaland

Secondly, marriage is a very big institution in Christianity and we got to get it right.

Up till tomorrow, God is still revealing husbands and wives. Deuteronomy 29:29.

Simple logic is to go to God personally to ask very well without involvement of ANYBODY. If the revealed is a member of the same church then ethics require us to inform the resident Pastor.

Now you are beginning to communicate.

Now the guidance is clear from the scriptures..."we should be yoked with believers" as I clearly pointed that out.

Now there is another form of guidance that does not necessarily mean GOD telling you "She is the one" you still have to choose...

Some ladies will pray to GOD for a hubby yet already have a prototype in their minds so when a guy who is a total deviation comes they just conclude..."he can never be the one" same for guys who love ladies with certain type of exterior dimension...they just can't imagine marrying an exact opposite so why do we go to GOD only when we see someone we feel we can be with?...that is the hypocrisy.
Op, when you say to be yoked with believers, who are the believers? The bible told us that a believing wife can save an unbelieving husband and vice versa. Have you read the story of Abraham's servant that was given the task to get a wife for Isaac? The conditions he asked God for the girl to have was what Rebecah had and did that made her to be automatically Isaac's wife. Read your bible very well. I learnt that you are not yet married but you talk a lot about marital issues. If a man takes a marital issue to a Rev. Father, what advice do you think the father will give when he has no idea or experience on how things work in a marraige.

If you can not do something for yourself using the teachings and Guidlines God has given you, then you deserve to be SINGLE!!

God gave man brain and power of choice so man can fend for himself.

Marriage is a little thing before God, it's is men that as turned it to a big deal and neglect the most important things to God.

Marriage is not a criteria to make heaven, if you wanna get married then do so and If you don't want to then remain single. It has nothing to do with your relationship with God.

Its only a fool that will wait for a pastor to show him/her the spouse and I have also heard Cases whereby pastors broke a relationship because he wanted the sister to marry a brother in his church then he uses the phrase "God says".

God gave us brain for a reason TO THINK.. But most of you decided to turn the brain to pap..may God help you

The problem with most believers esp in Africa is that they are too lazy to take out time to find out if this partner is the Right PERSON for them.....Hence they prefer some one esp a Daddy GO,whom they have utmost respect for, to do the VALIDATION for them even when its so glaring that this partner does not have the mental capacity to start a family.....

What most believers don't know is that God has blessed each and everyone of us with a discerning mind in order to see the SIGNS before they even happen.....unfortunately,most believers are just too busy and would prefer their pastor does that important job for them......forgetting that this same pastor is flesh and blood and may be erroneous in judgement!

God cannot do for us what he has empowered and equipped us to do for yourselves.....

Another funny one

When you ask God for directions, what exactly are you asking God? grin Directions to the lady's house? Or her place or work? grin

When you are asking for directions, you are simply asking to be led to the specific place. Why are you guys always digging up different meanings out of something? undecided

These were his words

Does that look like someone looking for directions from God to you?

God will never force us to do his will. Never. You can choose whatever girl you want, whatever course you want to study, whatever job you want. It's up to you.

But you can still sit down, ask God and wait till you hear from him. People do it and it still happens.

I hope you understand me and don't quote back just to argue. I'm here to learn

Adios cool

Lol.. Am still surprised people think like this in 2018.. When you don't know the God you serve then you serve him in error.

Am sure it's God or Holy Spirit that will tell you what you will have for breakfast. I thank God I was liberated from this kind of stupid thinking. Please don't bring up your kids with this orientation
