Yes...but we are not generating enough powerwise.

To compare...

Nigeria generates 7000MW( 200 million people)

South Africa generates 44000MW (40million people)

South Koreagenerates....160000MW( 55 million people)

Increasing generation needs at least $100bn if not more USD

Nigeria can comfortably afford that money but..............................

i'm sure you know the rest..............

Our foriegn reserve is hovering about $44billion plus..we aren't earning enough from oil ,and due to the price crashes between 2014-date....we have had to borrow money to balance the books....leading to us incurring debts that have to be paid.

If we wanted to even have a chance of affording such....we need oil to be at $139 per barrel. If not higher.

A list of fuckery

Woe betide Obasanjo and Jonathan. Two rogues that spent almost 30 Billion dollars with nothing to show for it.

Obasanjo alone spent 16 Billion dollars (THE MONEY THAT IS ENOUGH TO BUY 32,000 WIND TURBINES CAPABLE OF GENERATING UP TO 8,000 MEGAWATTS).
Today, Nigeria can not even boast of 8,000 megawatts a country of almost 200 million people while japan with about 150 million can boast of almost 1,000,000 megawatts.
Obj and Jonathan are supposed to die in prison.

USELESS OLD FOOLS

This statement shows the level of your ignorance...make your research well Goodluck Initiated and completed most of the listed projects, don't let hatred becloud your sense of reasoning....
I'm not a fan of any politician...We are waiting to see any project Initiated and completed by this present administration....

Peace to you ....

I think your asserrion is sonewhat flawed. South Africa does not generate 44GW but has an installed capacity of 44GW. Actually that number is now contentious owing to the fact that older plants and very expensive to run units are being decommissioned while others are left cold.

Nigeria has an installed capacity of maybe 7GW but generates around 3GWh on very good days.

The differences in installed capacity and generation is in utilisation and time.

dairyguru:
Engr. N.D Nwogu, a retired assistant director at the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing recently published a book titled "Know Nigeria Power Sector and Make Your Comments"

He listed duplication of functions among MDAs in the power sector as well as gas, water and transmission constraints amongst others as factors bedevilling the Nigerian Power Sector.

He also recommended some solutions to these problems.

Which of these power stations are still functioning and which areas do they cover? Would you visit the power station responsible for your area and ask questions about performance? Let's discuss the way forward here.

Some this power station are still under construction . like the one in akwa ibom.

Would you kindly cite these projects completed by Mr Goodluck, as far as I know, Nigeria has not experienced increase in power supply.

Actually you are wrong. OBJ started most of them and competed some while GEJ completed the rest.

Off the top of my head, Omotosho 2 and Geregu 2 were completed by GEJ.

A lot of the new power stations are not running or partially running because of gas constraints.

The bolded is not true. Nigeria's installed capacity is up to 10GW and generates above 3GW on very good days.

The same old Nigeria mentality that keeps dragging us backward. Power plants are not sited for political reasons in advanced countries. Its localised based on potentials of the location to aid easy generation, closeness to fuel or water source etc.

Nigeria does not fenerate 7000MW
Re: A List Of Power Stations In Nigeria by brodalikeme(m): 2:15pm On Jun 11, 2018
Going by the list provided, only 4208MW is the maximum power expected to be generated from the completed power stations. However, this is only installed capacity not actual production capacity (where did the government get that 7500MW lies from).
If effort is being put into the completion of the ongoing plants, which has an installed capacity of about 18340MW, we should be able to boast of over 22500MW shortly.

With all these power stations ,power is still our major problem in Nigeria.

If all of this power stations can work optimally and with 90% installed capacity, we will have a total 22,548MW but alas.

Some of this projects were awarded to cronies and the contractors got mobilization fees and ran away.

I expected this Government to go after all the contractors instead blaming OBJ of $16B.

Most of this power stations was awarded by OBJ, Yardua and GEJ administration.

But this administration was born out of propaganda and blame game.

Alaoji not completed. Only the Gas turbines are in operation. The steam turbines that will complete the combine cycles are yet to be installed.
