Adeboye Bans Mini-skirt, Trousers In Church

Pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria have started enforcing the dress code for all worshipers handed down by the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye

The GO, as Adeboye is called by the teeming worshipers, had announced recently that women must not wear gold trinkets, artificial hair and trousers and short skirts to church.

He also banned women and men from colouring or bleaching their hair when they are coming to church.

P.M.NEWS gathered that pastors in the various parishes of the church have started implementing the strict dress code, starting with the church workers.

A member of the church who is also a senior worker in one of the parishes confirmed that the pastors are enforcing the ban among the church workers.

The church worker, who pleaded for anonymity, said the pastors started with the church workers because they are directly supervising the workers

He said the pastors cannot force the larger congregation to abide by the new dress code because worshippers, especially first timers, voluntarily went there to worship.

According to him, “new worshippers who unknowingly flout the dress code will definitely change by the time they listen to what the pastor preaches from the pulpit. Changing their mode of dressing is a gradual process.”

The strict dress code has been criticised in some quarters and described as too conservative, considering the fact that in some Pentecostal churches, female members are allowed to wear trousers and artificial hair to church. In those churches, women and even men bleach their hair while while some men also wear earing in one of thier ears.

In Kris Okotie’s Household of God, Chris Oyakhilome’s Christ Embassy, and in Paul Adefrasin’s House on The Rock Church, it is fashionable for women to wear trousers and short skirts to church. It is this freedom to wear anything that makes these churches the place to be for youths on Sundays.

So they looked around the congregation, the entire church worldwide and decided that gold jewelry, women's pants, hair color and some hair weave is the burning problem plaguing their church today? and while modesty (dress-wise) is a virtue of incredible value, it was never meant to be enforced as a law - but moreso freely overflow out of a transformed heart and a renewed mind.

And if they had truly saved church members, they won't even have to enforce such a law in the first place, they would naturally dress modestly.

Well, the RCCG is a private institution and people choose of their own volition to go there and willingly subject and enslave themselves to such rules. Goodluck to them.

Shocking, but then again, this is PM NEWS. I'd take such reports with a pinch of salt.

Are they implying that you can wear those things outside of church? Isn't that encouraging some kind of hypocrisy?

What is PM news? It means Poor Man's news. This is cos it catches the fancy of poor people.

PM NEWS is a newspaper that tries to catch the attention of readers through its bad and controversial news headlines which often read: HORROR! SHOCKING! DISASTER! TERRIBLE! EXPOSED! EVIL! etc. So therefore, when this newspaper releases such a news article, im not surprised cos they are just trying once again to seek attention. How come myself, a staunch redeemed member, have not heard abt such but Poor Man's newspaper has insider info? Please throw that trashy newspaper into its rightful place- in the trashbin.

It is only in threads such as above that you would hear the view of pigs who believe in killing innocent women and children, and also strapping explosives to their person and killing innocents under the pretext obeying a fabled Godly prophet. Go and settle your fabled paradise issues before criticizing a true man of God.

^wow! So u read that thread? Entertaining innit? Good. Isnt it surprising that im not trying to hide my identity behind an alias? Or trying to justify myself? Or TRYING TO SOUND GODLY? Like you infered?

Little minds such as yours need to sit back and redefine what "sound Godly" means. Pls, if it isnt much trouble, earmark which phrase or clause gave rise to such remarks as u put forth. Im waiting, thats if it isnt much of a bother to you.

I can see that people tend to depend on magazines such as city people and PM news for information. How sad this is. A gossip mag and a frantic "must sell" pieces-of-paper-for-a-newspaper have become your article of enlightenment? Please stick to punch newspaper and The Guardian, cos they would really enlighten and widen your little mind. Thanks. Im out.

Abuzola and Pornodude have certainly derailed this thread! haba, open a new thread for all your comments and criticisms that you have against one another. . .

@ topic, if this news is indeed true, well good for them. I hope 'G.O' can also guarantee heaven for women that do not wear trousers too. . . I think what the new-age churches should do is to preach decency, how to dress that shows off a Godly image. If you wear a trouser and you are thinking "hmmm,  sexyyy!!" you are certainly not portraying God's image. Surely, a man that shows off his underpants is not showing of a Godly image but a wordly image.

In essence, what i am trying to say is that churches should preach moral and decency, but i guess they are scared because too much emphasis on topics like this in church may make people uncomfortable and that may reduce the church's revenue and income!!

All those reports have more or less emanated from the same PM News article, which (going by the antecedents of the newspaper) should be taken with a truckload of salt.

While there might be (some) truth in the article, the integrity of the carrier (PM News) doesn't fill me with confidence.

Good point and you're right. Perhaps there may be some kind of announcement from the church concerning the story. We'll wait and see!

PM news has come again with Thrash journalism

See this thread as far back as 2007 by the same PM news.

If the rule was made then, why is it being branded as a new one?

This makes sense!!
Anyway until proven to be true and confirmed from other reputable sources, I refuse to believe PM news.

are trousers the only thing that can make somebody says hmmmmn sexxxy? I have come to the conclusion, that many men are dogs. You can be covered up and some of this men will still try to holler.
Anyway sha, I don't believe this story. Good luck to Adeboye enforcing that in the USA because I can say now that it ain't going to work. Maybe in Nigeria, but in the USA. Church service longer than 2 hrs make people walk out talkless of some ridiculous list that bars women from gold, trousers, and dying hair, thats the majority of the women population in redeemed USA. It's only Nigerian churches were there is a debate about nonsense like this.

@OP
Jesus came that we can have life and have it more abundantly. What is wrong with wearing jewelry and trousers? I am a spirit-filled, born again christian, and freedom from bondage from the laws of sin and death is the reason why Christ died on the cross for us all. In the days of old, that is the Old Testatment era, God was a God of dos and don'ts; all you have to do is read the book of Deuteronomy and you will see what I mean. In the New Testament, after Christ died, he became the first born amongst many brethren allowing us to call God our Father. What should be preached and focused on in churches is the personal relationship of the believer with God the Father through the help of the Holy Spirit after receiving Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Believers should go to Church to be fed on the word, to obtain revelation of the mysteries of the gospel and to fellowship with like-minded people. I know that modesty in attire might allow for less distractions in church, but IF this report is true, all these restrictions are tantamount to living in bondage!

I dont believe it, but it has to be said RCCG pastors are breed for ignorance illiteracy and a very primitive mentality! If Jesus came today he wont even pass thier tests, they have a need to judge. Its only miracles that keep people going to the church.
Re: RCCG Pastors Have Started Implementing The Dress Code? by Nobody: 11:27am On Jun 03, 2010
I don't want to believe they are so ignorant.
