The World Bank has pledged support for Nigeria’s environment and agriculture, especially the FADAMA programme (FADAMA III AF).



It also included the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).

The Country Director of the Bank in China, Harold Bedoya, disclosed this when he received a Nigerian delegation in Beijing.

Bedoya explained that the bank had also secured $433, 000 from the China-World Bank Group Trust Fund to enhance South-South Learning and Knowledge (SSKE) sharing for China, India and Nigeria.


He said the bank had secured trust funds to finance the two biggest projects, with the initiatives of government.

The director said when completed; they would have great positive impacts on the people, especially in the application of geo-spatial technologies for erosion control, and watershed planning.

Coordinator of NEWMAP, Salisu Dahiru Mohammed said the SSKE sharing would go a long way in promoting bilateral cooperation among the three countries.

He added that the two major initiatives, often referred to as flagship projects would continue to help in achieving sustainable development in food security and sustainable environment.

“The Trust fund (TF) is to enhance sharing on infrastructure development that are associated with major land and gully restoration, agricultural development and climate smart agriculture,” he said.

Also, SSKE Coordinator, Dr. Joy Agene explained that the countries would benefit from information and knowledge sharing among the participating countries.

She said the support by the World Bank would bring a global wealth of experience to Nigeria.

How I wish those international Organizations can give out aids directly to the citizens.
Any money that goes through Nigeria leader will be eaten...maybe not all.
But the citizen will only get 10 naira out of 1000 naira.

How will these funds best empower the youths lives through meaningful, practical exercises?

Is it the farms they will set up and be attacked by Fulani herdsmen or the tomato farms in Plateau that is now a killing field?

The fund will remain in the bank and this news can as well be recycled next year on nairaland and you will still read it over and over again and then, go to sleep not understanding what you just read.

If they only know that Nigeria government is not serious they wouldn't have released such money.

I don't know about FADAMA but NEWMAP is not a white elephant project...most of the erosion control projects in the SS and SE are being done by NEWMAP..the federal government has little input in these projects, they are being solely sponsored and supervised by the world Bank itself..no room for political 'magu magu'...

I wonder if Nigerian government can create a scheme to lend or grant money faithfully to the poor ones at this trying time that we just won poverty world cup for small scale business and all so if you like go use am play bet naija.
