It is no longer a claim that technology has provided lasting solutions to most of our human problems. Although Nigerians have not opened their vaults to a pump flow of technological advancement, we still depend on the upstream production chain from China to help us meet how everyday need for tech gadgets and deliverable, the citizens of the country cannot dispute the need for technology is solving basic human problems.

Interestingly, the country is moving towards a terrain of more computer output as against the human contribution. For instance, the Joint Admission Matriculation Board has evolved from the dimension of Paper Based Test to Computer Based Test.

The move initially was meant with a lot of skeptical reactions by Nigerians, but over the last three to four years the use of Computers have become the standard for conducting examinations and in its own vice have proven to be more credible than the former examination pattern.

INEC has been charged with the mandate of Nigerians over the past 18 years of Democratic inclusion in the country and like every modern Organization the agency is moving towards a more digital era.

While the agency may not be ready for electronic voting yet, the agency has proven that it is tech-savvy enough to provide the basis for a credible election using technology.

News made rounds that the mandate of Nigerians has perhaps been sold even before the elections begin next year as there have been clone PVCs ready for sales on Alibaba.

However, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, director for voter education and publicity for the agency. announced that INEC will commence a hardware and software upgrade of its card readers, which in turn will enable all readers to detect counterfeit cards at Polling boots.

Several security features and secret source codes are contained in the smart card readers which enable them to read only PVCs duly issued by the commission.

Amazingly, if these PVC card readers are properly encrypted as stated by Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi then we are certain that without the inclusion of the faulty human factor, these card readers will take us a step closer to a free-and-fair election come 2019.

Your vote is power, don’t be scared to exercise your civil right.
