Osogbo – Osun State Government has commenced the construction of N2.7billion shopping complex that will complement the modernisation of the capital city of Osogbo.

Performing the foundation laying ceremony, Governor Rauf Aregbesola said the Shopping Mall which sits on a 5,000 square metres of land is a private venture of Independent Shopping Mall Limited.

Aregbesola held that the Mall, when completed, will provide ultramodern state-of-the-art retail, entertainment, relaxation and dining facilities with 2,000 square metres of shopping space, including retail shops, food court and three cinemas with automated parking space for not less than 500 vehicles, among others.

He added that the Osun mall will complement Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, which is just nearby; to provide recreation for the people of Osun, saying Osun people will not need to travel to Ibadan or Lagos to enjoy such facilities anymore.

The Governor according to his speech titled, “Our Road to Modernity”, noted that the project was embarked upon with a view to creating a sustainable environment conducive for human habitation and improved economic growth.

Speaking on the infrastructural intervention of his administration in the state, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital, Aregbesola said no government can compete with his administration’s achievements.

He said his administration has given the state, particularly Osogbo, a befitting facelift of socioeconomic development which can never be matched by any government since the creation of the state.

“There will be all round power system for the complex.‎ When completed, it will complement Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, which is just nearby, to provide recreation for the people of Osun.

“Our people will not need to travel to Ibadan or Lagos to enjoy such facilities anymore.

“So, this Osun Shopping Mall will be the father of all the projects we have completed in Osogbo and I am immensely grateful to God for the cornerstone laying ceremony we are all gathered here to perform today.

“It is our fervent hope that this complex will be ready in November. It will be one of our iconic legacies, even as our administration winds down gloriously in the state”, he added.

In his remarks, the project developer, Architect Gboyega Adeeyo, disclosed that the project will be completed before the expiration of the present administration.

He said the project when completed will enhance socioeconomic activities and attract investors to the state.

Adeeyo commended the Aregbesola’s administration on its massive infrastructural intervention, saying Osun has implemented infrastructural projects hard to be surpassed by any government.

He noted that the company will ensure full participation of Osun citizens throughout the construction of the project as being mandated by the Governor.

‎According to him, the project of Osun Mall has been long in coming and Mr. Governor has encouraged us not to give up since the idea was conceptualized.

“The construction of this project is in no doubt in continuation of the massive infrastructural developments the Aregbesola’s government has brought to the state and her people.

“There is no doubting the fact that the present administration has done so much to advance the state in terms of infrastructural development as being seen in the volume of developmental and life-changing projects the state had executed in the last seven and half years.

“It is my belief that this project will complement the state government’s efforts ‎to boost socioeconomic and commercial activities in the state and as well encouraging investors to the state,” Adeeyo stressed.

Good development!

But I have a question for Nigerian politicians. Must they steal? Must they loot? Must they divert funds?

As small as Ekiti State is, I’m sure a governor is legally entitled to close to 300 million naira per month (Security vote and allowances). 300 million * 12 months = 3.6 billion naira a year. 3.6 billion * 4 years = 14.4 billion

14.4 billion naira in just 4 years and these people still have the guts to steal and loot at every opportunity they get, not even minding the amount of the money.

What exactly is their problem??

It's a good feat by the state government.

Private partnership is always a win-win situation.

Some people's narrative will be that this last minute project is to loot

Aregbesola has completed more than 80% of projects he's embarked on, I hope this gets finished as well, just to keep some ignorant fools quiet

Not only that, he delivered more projects than the other governors in Nigeria combined, even more than Lagos state.

Not only, that, he's projects are quality and world-class projects.

Right now, I'm sure aregbesola is rounding up his tenure and he need no vote from us because he is not aspiring for any post. Let's forget sentiment, forget about the party you are supporting.... This man really tried for Osun state, he brought lot of construction, rehabilitation, dualization to this state and look at this now, he is still working. What we just need from the coming administration, either PDP, APC or SDP is to bring investors to the state as we already have the road, the structure is there already and face the workers squarely. God bless Nigeria, God bless State of Osun. God bless Oshogbo.

Is that not the same building that Omisore promises to demolish after winning as governor? #fingercrossed All the same, it's a good development. When next I pass that road you are attaching, you will see the "state" of the other parts of the road.
