abeg lukman is still better than obi mikel, but he has to play attacking midfield and not central midfield. whats the point of playing keita on the right when you can just play him in the middle and protect the back 4

@imbe,
in today's match, if there was any player we needed most, it was mikel.
it is mikel because as soon as kaita got the red card, greece got a new form and attacked us with all their strenght and speed so all we needed was a player who could hold on to the ball and and waste as much time as possible. by so doing, he wld get fouls which are time wasting on its own. that will serve as a slow down move on the greece team and frustration cld set in and fotced a red card on their side to balance the team.
at the moment, there is only one player who cld do this and his name is mikel.
haruna missed in action. he had no position in the game of today.
with ur several theories on goal scoring, one will expect haruna to score at least 6 goals in this group stage firing from all angles.

chidichris,
Thank you o jare, Mikel's football IQ is incredible. What else do you expect from a guy who played under some of the best coaches in the world in a very very tactical position not to talk of the fact that he learnt a lot from guys like ballack about positioning and properly reading the game well. Mikel is class, pure class and like i said, "form is temporary, but class is permanent."

threads like this always die a natural death with all the foolish anti mikels hiding away in shame and giving themselves some sort of break to think the next comparism.
i look forward to mikel/tuface idibia's comparism.

chidicris haruna is still better tan mikel. mikel played 4 seasons without goal or shot on target and his about to play his 5th season now, while lukman just have 2 average games in center midfield instead of attacking midfield. and by the way haruna lukman mother is from igbo land, his igbo name is ifeayi so all these igbo boys should chill with triabalism nonsence

@12large,
lizard always make efforts to sit down but his long tail will not allow him.
u are like a ballon on top of the sea. u don't have directions of ur own rather u depend on the wind.
u make efforts to stand out of the crowd but u are far behind because u lack information.
under normal circumstances, ill informed ppl like u are not supposed to be my debate partners.
what does it take u to log in to www.chelseafc.com and know mikel's details before u make mockery of urself in public forum.
market women say mikel has not scored in his four seasons in chelsea and u bring that frustrated statement here.
mikel has scored 2 goals in chelsea jersey.
is not abt been igbo or not rather it is abt soccer.
can haruna play in chelsea? if u say yes, as what? and who in chelsea squad wld u want haruna to bench? haruna can score 98 goals in one season, yet he has not landed.
find out about solomon kalou. he was the highest goal scorer in holland league the season chelsea bought but has he done that in england or with chelsea?
soccer get level and like i always say, i pray that haruna will see his dreams come true.

Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by 12large: 3:01am On Jun 19, 2010
chidicris your still talking nonsense, let nigeria play 433 formation and give lukman a chance he would impress, by us playing 442 his doing a lot of defensive work and that is not his forte, he is still better than mikel rightnow he is playing average but it is only 2games mikel plays poor for chelsea for good 4 seasons. semid4life i already knew that your a bonified idiot, your probably a mallam if you think a player that have not scored in 4 seasons is nigeria best than your crazy. the fact that lukman is not performing is because we have a goat as a coach
Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by mensdept: 3:18am On Jun 19, 2010
Obviously Mikel is our best midfielder, as the likes of Haruna, Etuhu, KEITA, and co all suck.

Mikel clearly didnt want to risk his football career not because of injury, but because of the embarrassment of playing for the SE.

Imagine after the world cup is over, scouts from all the great leagues will be signing and resigning those who performed, as well as some who didnt perform so well, but rode the wave of their team performance deep into the tournament.

Haruna is okay, and may perform in the future, but is starting today because there was no one else, and our overzealous support of him after he scored against a useless Colombian team that didnt qualify boosted him.
Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by naso2(m): 11:26pm On Jun 19, 2010
Is this argument still on?
After the Greece match it is evident that Mikel is planets ahead of Haruna. Infact it is now clear that it was kaita that was sheilding HARUNA and ETUHU. After kaita's red card they were both exposed. Both cant mark and haruna plays a crucial worldcup match like he is in his father's parlour. Abeg mikel senior all of dem by far.
Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by Nobody: 12:07am On Jun 20, 2010
Haruna Lukman really has a lot to learn in football.

Why was he backing out when that shot he deflected was about to be played? If he moved forward to try to close the Greek player down he would not have deflected the ball into the net.
Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by semid4lyfe(m): 1:27am On Jun 20, 2010
This world cup has made it obvious that Mikel is a billion times better than Haruna. Anyone who can't see that is suffering from cataract and should see an eye specialist.

The idiocy we watched during green eagle’s soccer performance abounds on this board too.Baring the repeating idiocy, how a person could remotely thought of silly comparison between Mikel and Lukman?

The dude called Lukman must learn how to stand on his feet then people can talk about his soccer skills. He is either fumbling with the ball or lying flat on the turf. I repeat Lukman’s inclusion on this team is sheer madness.

Lukman can still score 10 goals against S. Korea, I still insist the dude is a waste of spot on the green eagles squad.

@12large,
mikel has scored two(2) goals for chelsea and i have told u to go to, www.chelseafc.com, look for the players and click on mikel, everything u need to know abt him will come.
goal scoring in a team is someone's job but others score when the opportunity calls.
we are not having a team because every player is doing his best to be the goal scorer.
what is 442 and what is 433?
haruna cannot play in bolton as it is now talkless of playing in arsenal and not to think of chelsea.
u are right when u said nigeria has a goat as coach otherwise haruna cannot be in a squad loosing balls like no man business.
if we had mikel against greece, all we needed when kaita got the red card was to hold on to the ball as long as possible.
mikel had the annointing to hold on to the ball and get foul from any desperate oposition player.
u need to civilize ur socce brains as they are out of fashion at the moment.

@12large,
source pls. i hope u know who the intermilan coach is? his name is not jose mourinho rather he is called benitez and if you don't mind, he just left liverpool and he came from spain and does not have any record of black players.
on the other hand, i serious pray that God will make this come through as that is the only way players get established and not playing in an unknown lands.
french league in which haruna plays, for a very long time now has been serving as a passage for great players. great players don't play in french league rather they pass through french league.
let us hope and pray that such move pulls through and i wish him the best.

u can read this. an article coming from men with football wisdom.

[quote]SUMMARY OF A SEASON: JOHN MIKEL OBI
Posted on: Sun 13 Jun 2010

It was another solid if unspectacular season for Chelsea's defensive shield, exactly what is required,

For the second season running it was unclear at the start who the manager intended to be the main deep-lying midfielder, but for the second season again, injury to Michael Essien ensured John Mikel Obi became the number one choice.

On return from the Africa Cup of Nations in February, Mikel started every game until his own knee and ankle problems in mid-April ruled him out of the season's two-trophy climax.

In the opening games, Carlo Ancelotti accommodated both Mikel and Essien, the latter playing further forward in a diamond formation, but Mikel was taken off early in the Community Shield and the league opener v Hull and he was dropped for the first away game at Sunderland, but rotated straight back in at Fulham where an uncharacteristic shot from 25 yards that flew just inches wide was as close as he came to scoring all season.

At Wigan in late September as the team's perfect start to the season ended in 3-1 defeat, the Nigerian suffered ankle damage which ruled him out for two months.

His second match back was a toughie - away in Porto against a team traditionally strong at home. Chelsea won 1-0.

'The defence is in a good moment because the midfield in front is working very well and today Mikel did a fantastic match,' Ancelotti said afterwards and retained the player for the big win at Arsenal that followed, although then left him on the bench for the first hour of defeat at Man City.

In December's run of narrow league wins and draws Mikel was involved in every game without playing a single full 90 minutes.

Nigeria were hardly favourites for the Africa Cup of Nations, having only just scraped into the World Cup at the end of qualifying a couple of months earlier, but they were a surprise package, eventually losing to an Essien-less Ghana in the semi-finals.

For Mikel there was an unfamiliar role of playmaker just behind the Nigeria strikers, more a reflection on his nation's paucity in that position than a flowering of attacking ambition in the Chelsea man. His close friend Salomon Kalou described seeing Mikel play Number 10 as 'his funniest moment of the week' on this website.

All that said, when the 23-year-old returned to Chelsea, there was a fresh impetus to his game. He enjoyed one of his best spells of form yet with enterprising long passing in evidence - culminating in a wonderful assist for Didier Drogba to score at Portsmouth. John Terry's celebration with Mikel left no-one in any doubt that the captain admired the pass.

At home to Arsenal in February he played his 150th Chelsea game and by the end of the season had his first league championship winners' medal, although he missed the final three league games and the FA Cup Final. Initially injured by a Kevin Davies foul against Bolton, he broke down a week later at Tottenham, an injury that would eventually deprive him of his first World Cup.

Mikel's own on-pitch discipline problems are long behind him. He was only booked four times in a campaign spent in a highly-competitive area of the pitch.

Ancelotti has revealed he was a similar player in a similar position in his youth and predicts much to come from his player. With injuries hopefully healed over the summer, it will be fascinating to see how Mikel and Essien fit into the 2010/11 midfield.

Appearances: 35

Goals: 0

Minutes on pitch: 2,811

Ray Wilkins: 'John is a talented young man, there is no question about that, and he has had another solid season doing what he does best, which is quietly going about his job in front of the defence. We've had a lot of clean sheets this season and John has more than played his part.'

Okay. After seeing lukman in the worldcup, I dont reall see much of a comparison to make. they have something in common, which is they can both play football but then they play diff positions. I think a good coach will make use of both guys in the same squad and get good results from the duo.

abeg haruna is better than mikel, how can haruna do something big when his playing too defensive, he was attacking and defending and we know he cannot defend. had it been that yeye coach had put keita and etuhu in defensive midfield and let haruna attack he would have done something bigger. mikel is still useless he is about to play his 5th season and he still has no goals or shot on target

mikel has scored 2 goals for chelsea. learn and stop behaving like a motor park fellow. u believe in hear say.
www.chelseafc.com. go there and all u need to know abt mikel's chelsea history is available for u.
on haruna, i even saw him keeping when eyeama went to toilet.
sometimes he was working as a linesman.
he was doing everything but it is so unfortunate that at the end of the day, all his effort cld earn us was the president's disbanning of the team.
Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by 12large: 1:57pm On Jul 02, 2010
thats why his moving to inter -milan. in this last world cup midfield was not the problem, but missing too many chances was the problem

@12large,
this much talked about move to inter has been most popular here in nigeria but like i said earlier, my prayers is that he becomes successful in that move but the benitez that i know does not believe in black players though strange things do happen but until then.
if what u wrote above is true, why did goodluck disban everybody? he shld have allowed the midfielders and sack those who missed the chances.
i don't believe in any players nigerians say he is good because good in nigerian context means bad.
on the other hand, nigerians know little or nothing about football.

yeah benitez really wanted him but this season italian rules on foreign players changed so he could only get one non eu and masherano was his first choice. anyway lukman don't have to go to a big club so they would turn him like mikel he can stay at a small club and play his position very well

@12large,
have u seen how u are bringing shame to urself, ur family and ur generation as a whole?
inter milian wanted haruna? hahahahahaha - shameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
rafa benitez is the coach at inter. he is not a fan of black skinned players. pls look at his stay in liverpool. no blackman made it there. pls in what position are u fixing haruna in this inter squad? where did u get ur news from - market women i think?
players who made it at the world cup recieved attention from various clubs so no news yet abt haruna.
haruna is a very good player mind u but my greatest fear abt the guy is his low level of stamina and nigerian football pundits are saying he is old. yes they are saying haruna is an old guy.
pls get a life and leave our able mikel that has remained the last man standing in our players club carriers.
in ur realities, name one nigerian footballer of present who is not dreaming to be like mikel.
Re: Lukman Haruna Vs Mikel Obi, Who Is Better? by 12large: 5:08pm On Sep 19, 2010
yap i was right benitez wanted him but eu rules stopped it, anyway is btter for him to stay at monaco and play attacking midfield instead of coming to inter and play defensive midfield at least i definetly don't want him to be the new mikel

as long as he don't score any goal, playing 300games without a goal is weak
