Hardlife:here is why you can't stop. You'd always want to try and recover all you've lost where as even if you do, you'd still be loose it to virtual again. Just count your lost to virtual as that which cannot be recovered. Let it go. The more you chase, the worst your life 'd become. Jethrolite: Go easy on the sanctimonious talk. Gambling is one of those addictions you hope you do not stumble into. Alot of Nigerians are being snared. It's the same way they are snared by mmm etal. The difference in this case is that the govt has still not intervened. The phrase used to describe gambling is 'the house always wins'. Even if you hammer small today, you wil lose it after. I saw a frightening ad where a couple were planning to buy stuff from proceeds of gambling money. Hardlife: hi OP. I can relate 10000000001% to the agony you feel right now. I was once in your shoes but not my school fees but my hard earned salary after 30days I would loose to virtual in a day or two without attending to rent or basic needs first. I turned a beggar, eating from one room to the other of my co-tenants. my side business was in shambles because it's either am virtualling and can't open my shop or my shop is open but I am in the virtual shop. I did everything to try to stop but all to no avail, I swore with a Bible never to play again... I managed to stay away a week or few days and I was back. to make matters worse I started to work in a bet9ja shop the very first day was a disaster I played 25000 on the spot, the very first day I started the job lucky for me the boss wasn't around, I quickly ran to a cousin sister and cried for help on how my boss would kill me, she pardoned me and lent me the money instantly, I put it into my boss purse, he returned and was very happy the sales I had made. I almost burst in tears in his presence, surprisingly I didn't quit but worked there for 2/3 months more but my brother my salary I never saw because I had shortages upon shortages and sometimes had to use my savings to fill up my mess, my bank account read zero. guess what I did next and you should try it too. I swore with my MOTHERS LIFE never to play virtual again and believe me I have been Prolly 5years clean now (I LOVE MY MOM TOO MUCH OH) and its even better now because I am no longer her in Nigeria even though back then I played both on and offline. I don't know what's wrong with the Nigerian Government, this bet9ja ish has ruined the youths financially. in some countries gambling is illegal. why will the Nigerian Government encourage a disease like bet9ja (am not surprised I heard LASG is one of the sponsors, my pastor back then in Nigeria who happens to be a top bank official says bet9ja deposits in billions weekly and this was about 5/6 years ago). my friend OP you may not try what I did but I am on my knees, I do not even know you but you must stop. you have to put your life on the line someway, I n do not know if "swearing" works but I am never virtualling with my mother's life . be smart 14 Likes 1 Share |

Hardlife:no way you can stop virtual without having a purpose or something that will keep you busy, either you set up a business or attach yourself to work at least to keep your mindset of it before you end up like some boys who hang around bet shop begging for daily feeds after virtual as eaten their life up. for me to stop virtual, I reawakening my business and that took my mind of it, luckily I goes on weekend with nothing less than 1k or worst 2k, I don't go around with huge money and I don't have ATM since its damage, I didn't get any back. University certificate is a joke this days, u probably would have graduated with a third class which still mean D same thing now. Play this in ur head now. Hardlife: May God help you sir. I would not claim to be a therapist or anything but I'm sure there are good resources online on stopping gambling as an addiction. First, I thank God for you that you're able to recognise this addiction and that you want to stop it. Its going to be hard, you're going to find yourself slipping sometimes, but don't give up. Even when you fall back to it, once you remember your goal, just stop. Also, 1. I think you should get yourself really busy with either school or business and surround yourself with good people, people you want to be like. 2. You should work in close collaboration with your family too and let someone be responsible for checking up on you. Don't hold lots of money. Tell your family to pay school fees for you by themselves. 3. Buy a non smart phone. Keep the smart phone with a friend who knows of your addiction. You can come use it under his supervision. 4. Block all betting websites from the smart phone. 5. Get closer to God (I don't know what religion you follow) 6. Reward yourself. If you're able to go two weeks without betting for example, treat yourself out to a nice meal. 7. Whenever you feel the urge, have friends of standby who you can talk to. Just see down and start thinking of when you started playing the bet, try & calculate all the money you've lost from the very first date till date, look at the total amount very well & ask yourself if you can recover them, also think of what you would have done with such huge amount. So, basically gambling as an automatic response is now a program of your motor neurons. How you break the cycle ? You must disable the sub-conscious programming by deactivating the motor neurons responsible for involuntary responses. How is that done ? Many ways, but the easiest for a dummy like you, is simple but tough for people to hear. Which of your friends or relatives really hates you for living the way you do ? Go to that person, let them make fun of you so badly that you are broken, you feel useless, and you feel like fighting the person. You cry in the inside and challenge yourself to get better. In fact, if you can go to the place you waste your money and start a fight and let them beat the hell out of you. You would have closed that chapter and never go there again. Sometimes you need to get lucked up in police cell to face some level of trauma that will disable certain neural programming, that is what prisons are built for. If you can not do the above, then you need to go through the slow processes which hardly work. That includes, finding a girlfriend who hates who you are now and is ready to make you better. Love changes people who fall in love and are heart broken and want to be better for better mates to lay by their sides. Most people get married out of depression and transfer their aggression to their innocent wives.
