The unbundling should have been that each police officer should serve in his local govt.thats the local police we should be clamoring for.

Good. Now we will all have the chance to reenact apartheid police state in our various states.

The governors can now do what gej and buhari and all of them have done.

Imagine fayose with his police, wike with his police, yahaya Bello with his police (Dino are you there?), Amosun with his police likewise el-rufai cheesy

This would only lead to anarchy. The problem is with the citizen is it not same Nigerians that would be in the state police. Why not strengthen the ones we have so that they become independent.

Those of you shouting true federalism upandan, especially in yorubaland. Here is the chance to walk the talk and prove for once your politics is is not about excercising your tongues and blowing yoru-English.

State police is an element of true Federalism not the unitary system you are practicing now where fulani have 97% absolute control of all the forces and intimidate the rest of the country.

It time to eat the big frog and support true federalism just as practiced in the US where they have the Los Angeles Police department (LAPD), NYPD, etc. Your Governors can not really protect you from fulani terrorists if the state Commisioner of police only receives orders from Abuja (from the same fulani terrorists) who wants your ancestry land for cattle colonies.

The Merits of state police is higher than the demerit. Expecting an hausa police chief from funtua to come give you adequate security in Ijebu ode where has no idea of the terrain is nonsensical.

Good police work can only be done with local police principle by the residents of the locality. This is one of the reason why Americans do not build high gates in front of their houses to have a sense of security.

Bad idea. FSARS was a great police invention until it became the public nuisance it is today.

Governors are going to abuse it in ways we can not yet imagine.

These governors that can not pay workers, where will they see money to pay these new sets of gun wielding civil servants. This is a recipe for disaster.

A grave disaster. It should have bin preceeded by a regional bill. We shall all attack ourselves cos state police force will definitely turn to guerrilla groups. There will be tribal accusations/counter accusations. And they will be used for evil propaganda. Watch.

They should consider all risks that can backlash.

Issues of state boundaries
Geopolitical alliance if the states desire
State Prison Service
Management of security information
Class of ammunition procurable by state police forces.
Human Right issues and the likes should be considered.

Nice bills

They should also state the respective roles of State and Federal police, their jurisdictions, powers and limitations. Otherwise, there would be internal rivalries and wranglings between the two which could lead to nonperfomance and danger.

It is long overdue

I know what we went through with the native police. So I don't support state police.

We should better the one we have(better the angel you know), instead of creating new set of police that the state will not be able to pay their salaries who might in turn become new recruits for armed robbery.

imagine people who can't pay salaries clamouring for state police.

When we have one problem, we break it up to create more problems - we are about to create more robbers, kidnappers, ethnic jingoist, thieves, rapists, etc.

As long as we've not done anything to improve the welfare of the existing police officers, state police can't work.

They both could be paid on a first-line charge basis, which would eliminate the need for the Governor to directly approve their salaries.

Just as we have with ministry of justice and local government commission? Abi

The political employees of the ministry of justice, as in other ministries, are paid via authorization from the governor (or president). As political appointees, their roles are to serve at the pleasure of the chief executive and carryout his/her policies.
I wouldn't class police commissioners or the IG as political appointees because they have a duty to enforce the law impartially. Hence I support any move to make the remunerations of judges, police commissioners, and the IG on a first-line charge basis.

I like your submission but unfortunately who will approve it? The same executive that can direct minister or Commissional of finance not to release funds? And finally hope you're remember how Jonathan sacked cbn government with all the constitutional back.

This state police is dead on arrival. We are not yet mature for that.
