The Senate has confirmed the appintment of Musiliu Smith as Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC).

Smith’s appointment was confirmed after report of the Committee on Police Affairs tendered by Abu Ibrahim from Katsina South District, was considered for the confirmation of the nomination Smith and other members of the PSC.

Other members iof the PSC whose appoitment were confirmed are Justice Clara Ogunbiyi from North East, Rommy Mom from North Central, Braimoh Austin from South South, Nkemka Jombo-Ofo from South East, and Lawal Bawa and Mohammaed Najatu from North West.

Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawn, urges the appointees to encourage and motivate our police officers so as to propel them towards better protection of lives and properties.

Congratulating the appointees, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said their appointment gives hope to restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture,

“First, let me congratulate the new members of the Police Service Commission and at the same time, commend the quality of the nominees that have been brought forward by Mr. President.”- Senate Presiden

“This gives us hope and encouragement that all our efforts to see that this critical aspect of our security architecture receives the necessary reform.

“We wish all the members the best of luck in their new role. Before this nomination, they have had a lot of expectations from Nigerians. This is why we ensured that we fast-tracked this nomination.”

He pointed that a lot of people are expecting that the capacity of the individuals on the PSC will support the Police to carry out the necessary reform that is required — particularly ‘in ensuring that we drive a performance driven police force.

”They must also work to motivate all the members to do the right thing to provide security for our nation. At the same time, the new Police Service Commission must look into rewarding great performance and being able to compensate those who work hard.

”They must also look into the unfortunate incidents where Police Officers lose their lives and ensure that the country is there for the families who have to bear this loss.”
