Nice post. We need to start creating the awareness before this gets out of hands.
I, for one, am considering vasectomy, pity there’s no known specialist in Nigeria.

population isn't the problem

Population is definitely part of the problem. If people refuse to plan their families then they cannot expect the government to be able to plan for them.

Over the years some religion use population as a means of conquest, infact it is boldly written in their instruction book. This kind of post only help them in their conquest. Since some places in southern Nigeria and middle belt have started lean house hold policy has propagated in the 70s, i want to believe that Nigeria population have stop to increase. this post was made either from ignorance or deliberately to benefit some group. even china since stopped 1 child policy, Europe are now encouraging their women to born more, Donald Trump now trying stop white population in the US from becoming minority etc. abeg forget about this policy, it can not work

I actually don’t want kids. I don’t have existing kids and I don’t plan on having any smiley
As for getting fat, I’m grossly underweight, so I won’t mind some fat cheesy

u dey fear to mention their tribal ba grin cool

This is not a tribe issue, every tribe is guilty of this overpopulation we have in this country. I see them around me all the time. Low income earners yet popping out kids every other year with the belief that at least one will be successful enough to take them out of poverty. In most cases they grow up and become nuisances in the society.

We should also look at the socio cultural factors that encourage people to have more kids that they can cater for.

According to the NDHS 2013, over 90% of men and over 80% of women respectively are aware of at least one family planning method, however, in a twist just about 15% use a contraceptive method. This shows a huge disconnect between knowledge and uptake of this service.

So what are those factors that make men and women not to use contractive stuffs despite being aware of them, socio cultural belief, access to services, availability of services ? I don't believe it is religious because taking a look at some other equally religious countries like Egypt, Arab countries, they have a far less total fertility rate than Nigeria which is estimated at about 5.6 children per woman and even as high as 8 per woman when disaggregated by states.

I also believe that a high level of very younger girls getting married has contributed to this population explosion.

We currently have a population of over 180 million and with a current growth rate of about 2.6% , we need to act and fast otherwise we would have a huge demographic disaster in our hands!

Im sorry to say this, your post shows that you’re either ignorant or just plain tribalistic. Anyone who has above average intelligence knows that overpopulation is, and will continue to be a major problem.

birth control is certainly not enough, we also need:

- better parenting
- mandatory sexual education in schools
- free family planning services all around the country
- better access to abortion doctors
- resetting the Nigerian society mindset about orphans (unwanted children) and how to intelligently combat the problem

The only area population can be taken advantage of to any nation is in "politics" and "war".

These two unfortunately are issues of the 19th century as developed world have shifted focus from "politics" to "technocrats" and "number warfare" to "tech warfare".

Unchecked population growth is a threat to our economic existence as a country and must be checked by appropriate legislation.
The time is now.

Plan your family from the scratch and give your offspring a chance for a better future.

Equipping a child for the challenges of this modern era is not cheap.... so control your birth!

Hausa / Fulani are 90% responsible for the population explosion Nigeria is currently facing and anyone denying that fact is either ignorant or plain mischievous.

A northern man can have as many as four wives and over 20 children. Since I was born, I have never seen a Niger deltan or an igbo with that much kids. See the truth and say it.

No Nigeria is not overpopulated, far from it. We have to look at the population density of Nigeria, ( people per square mile ). The population density of Europe is higher than in Nigeria, (more people per square mile than Nigeria), so in fact Europe is overpopulated and Europeans are not complaining about it. We have to create more jobs for the youngs and build more skyscrapers in Nigerian cities.

Use you common sense now.

Assuming u earn 500K with 2 children

and now
u earn same 500K with 6 children

Divide that.

Its the same on national level

Nigeria earnings from its resources divided by the population = not very much
