The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Wednesday, cautioned private cyber cafe operators against extortion of prospective candidates who want to upload their results on the board’s website.

The Head of Media of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, gave the caution in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Benjamin said that the caution became necessary following several complaints made to the board by the victims, on fraudulent activities by some private café operators.

He said the candidates complained of high amount of money they were being charged by such operators to upload their WAEC results on JAMB website.

“Not only do they charge them high, they also convince candidates who had already uploaded their results on the site to do same again.

“Candidates who have had their results uploaded at the point of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration need not do that again, except for those who registered with awaiting results.

“Those are the ones allowed to upload now on our website.

“This upload should not cost more than N100.

“No cyber café should charge more than this amount, however, if candidates can locate any of our Computer Based Test (CBT) Centres, it is free to make the upload there,” Benjamin said.

NAN correspondent who visited some of the cyber cafés in Bwari reports that while some charge a negotiable N500, few charge up to N1, 000 for the result upload.

The exercise follows the recent release of 2018 WAEC results and the announcement by JAMB that“leaders of institutions agreed that the First Choice Admission would be conducted from July 2 to Oct. 16’’.

According to the board, the Second Choice Admission is to commence from Oct.17 to Dec.17.

If they refuse to listen, serious measures should be taken against them.

Cautioning them is not enough, they need to make examples of one or two of them (by arresting them and slapping them with fines) to pass the message across

The amount of money that jamb makes is quite questionable, JAMB is the one that is totally extorting Innocent Secondary students in the name of admissions seeking.

its a Good one but the Truth is Jamb can do nothing...

Some Cafes run on Generators through out the day.....

Some hv their prices due to their Locations e.g. You don't expect to have the same price at Okokomiako and Lekki Phase 1 or ikoyi or Amuwo-Odofin GRA..

Before I Migrated, I hd a cafe in a GRA I was involved with..
My Advice is learn how to do it yourself... so you just get a 30mins or 1hour and do it yourself.... with that u save cost.,

You edged out cyber cafe from JAMB registration and gave it to the CBT Centers, now u want to regulate the prices a cafe should charge for the services they render to candidates on JAMB website?

See what u just did
You took food away from the poor and gave it to the rich, now u want to condition the poor man on how to eat his remaining food. Its not possible.

CBT centers were solely set up for the purpose of conducting jamb exams, u have turned it into JAMB registration centers yet u still wana condition cafe owners?

The same problem they sighted when they edged out cafes are still there till date, rather the students are faced with extra untold hardship during the registration due to it bottle neck system created by JAMB.

JAMB online registration should be as opened as every other online registration we have in the country, what is going on now is an abuse of people's constitutional right to participate even when they are qualified to but cannot due to government policy, the same government that swore an oat to uphold the constitution of the country.

ehya poor cafes.

jamb is really using them to self-service!

cafes dont do anything relating to jamb anymore. i went to a cafe to print my wards jamb slip and change institution and the guy told me to go to any CBT that jamb has blocked them from rendering any services on their website.

and here we are same jamb still blaming non existent cafe for their own (jamb) extortion.

Hundred naira for what?
Na una dey buy data and fuel for them?
Or do you pay rent, revenue or light bill for them.

Jamb has done enough damage by restricting registration to CBT centres, they should carry their regulations and shove into their throats.

NONSENSE
