On Monday, August 6, 2018, a twitter handle, APC Newspaper, which claims to be a social media mouthpiece for the ruling party, All Progressive Congress announced that President Muhammdu Buhari has raised NYSC allowance to N49,800.
This writer, however, tweeted at NYSC to confirm the credibility of the APC Newspaper’s tweet about the allowance increase and @officialnysc replied saying it is a rumour.
Shortly after responding to the tweet that asked the agency to clear the air on the rumour @officialnysc immediately deleted the tweet.

The DG also said that the Presidency also copied the Ministry of Finance in the letter.
Kazaure announced this on Thursday, August 2, 2018, during a tour of the NYSC orientation camp in Abuja.

This will only be possible if minimum wage is increased aswell else it will affect employers. You can't earn 50k as a youth corper only to come out and settle for a miserable 25k job.

I don't even know how some Nigerians think. How is it possible for government to want to increase nysc allowance to 49k when they haven't increased minimum wage? Currently, government is borrowing heavily to fund the budget which is made up of largely recurrent expenditures which covers this. Until the issue of the new minimum wage is settled, I don't see how nysc allowance would be increased and with the amount of borrowings and debts on ground, they can never increase it to 49k. Reason is that the moment they increase it with minimum wage, other sectors(people like ASUU and the likes) would start pushing for a wage increase. We have seen this over and over again in this country.

Corpers have the lowest level in the civil service which is why they collect exactly the minimum wage. Remember recently that there was talk of implementing the new wage. Once it is approved, that is what corpers would collect.
