Breaking: Akpabio Left 500billion Debt For Udom Emmanuel
-Chief Assam Assam:

Former Attorney General of the State stated this while responding to questions on Channels TV.

“At the coming of this present administration, the debt profile of Akwa Ibom State stood at about N500 billion. Godswill Akpabio had owed Julius Berger about N58 billion. At a point, Julius Berger had locked the Ibom International Stadium, preparatory to an important match.

"Now, the money that Governor Udom Emmanuel gave to Julius Berger, the Company decided to redirect whatever monies they got from Udom to offsetting the debts Godswill Akpabio owed the company. I know all these because I was the Attorney-General.”

Speaking further he said, “Akpabio wrote petitions to EFCC to lock Akwa Ibom State Government accounts” –Chief Assam Assam, Senior Advocate of Nigeria on CHANNELSTV.

Tonye government does not pay contractors directly . Even you should know this elementary thing.

If monies owed banks were for projects not yet completed then what and where did the other 440billion come from? From mars? From external lenders outside Nigeria?

You shock me! You are not supposed to reason like a child but you are.

All state contractors are paid through banks and where the financial capacity of the state is stretched, they turn to banks who help offset such burdens and that is where the debt of 64billion came from.

How much did Akwa ibom have as its state reserves viz a viz IGR prior to bank loans?

Did they have over 400billion?

Is Akwa ibom Lagos? Even Lagos as the main commercial hub In Nigeria cannot boast of more than 100b IGR every quarter while Akwa ibom has about 60billion IGR A YEAR and this is even recent. In the time of Akpabio it was even less because that was when he was trying to put AKS on the map.

Use your head and stop sounding silly

1. When contractors successfully bid for projects, government pays them a certain percentage as "mobilisation fee". They get their full payment after job is done.

States normally get their monies through statutory allocation, excess crude account sharing, IGR, refunds etc. However, some go to bank to get loan to fund projects that their revenues can't take. Monies collected from these banks or financial institutions is what is considered as DEBT OWED BANKS (in layman parlance). It isn't money owed contractors.!

Most Governors will embark on projects, approve large sums, divert the sums to personal account instead of contractors and push the burden to successors.

Will you just shut it already.

The last part of your comment is merely a shot in the dark and a desperate word from a serial looser such as you are.

Why not go for the word of the States accountant general rather than that of an attorney.

People just throw figures around in a desperate bid to get gullible and unthinking souls such as yours to swallow it all.

I asked you a question. HOW MUCH WAS THE IGR OF AKWA IBOM in the time of Akpabio?

Do you not realise that for any credit facility to be giving to you, your IGR must be within certain limits?

How many years did Akpabio govern AKS? If he was there for 8 years and the yearly IGR was less than 50 billion a year then it would take the entire 8 years for them to make 400billion as a state and that would only be possible if they did not embark on any infrastructural development and you and I know that infrastructure was not neglected in the time of Akpabio which is why the people still.love him till today.

How then was he able to generate a dept of 500b in the face of what I just showed you?

He awarded a contract to Ben Bruce which Bruce collected monies and abandoned. Udom instead of going after Bruce chose to keep quiet because Bruce is in his party.

I repeat, the real criminal here is Udom who has clearly been indicted with the Julius berger contract scandal and the Ben Bruce issue amongst other things.

He rather hides behind "Akpabio left me with so much dept" in order not to get anything done while he pockets as much as possible and passes the blame to Akpabio.

As at 2013 the debt Akwa ibom owed was $61.6 million which if we go by the exchange rate as at 2013 which was 1 dollars to 161 naira that would amount to 10 billion naira dept as at 2013. Akpabio was governor from 2007 to 2015 and if the dept as at 2013 was 10 billion naira, how then did it jump to 500 billion in 2 years lying tonye?

The day you will quit deceiving yourself will be the day all you stand for politically would begin to make some headway.
