I can imagine a world without internet as against the poser in the first paragraph in the write-up. A world without internet has been, it was before the incursion of internet and people lived it.

The problem is that we have wired our mind in such a way that we believe that without internet, our world will not be better. I am not against it, I don't have problem with it. As a matter of fact, it has helped me in so many uncountable ways. It is still helping me. The nairaland platform I am now, is made possible through the power of internet.

I wake-up surfing the web, it makes life interesting. But thinking about it now, based on the first paragraph of the write up, I think we can live in a world without internet. Permit me to relate it to a personal experience, I had my first degree at a time in history when internet has not been the order of the day. It was a time when only a few can afford it. Like me, then I couldnt afford it, I did not even have opportunity to handle a desktop let alone laptop.

The only gadget I could relate to then was a palmtop, and there were little I could do with a it, I only used it to show ego, the point I am trying to make is that computers were not common. In those days in IMO State University, Timacy and London Net were the two joint we normally go for night browsing because many of us student could not afford to get browsing phone let alone an Android or window phones. In fact, I don't think there were such phones then. But I know of Nokia phones.

So writing my first degree project, I had to be in the library, reading all the books I can lay my hands on. Then writing project was more of your sweat and originality. One will write, pay Business Centres to type your project and present to your supervisor who will make corrections and you pay Business Centres to correct it for you until I finished.

Fast forward to when I was doing my master degree program 3 years after, I had access to the internet 24/7. I have my own laptop, learning was easier and writing of project was made easier with the help of online libraries like Jstor and co but the drudgery and rigoriousness in doing a thorough project was not their.

I want to say, that a life without internet is imaginable, though we may view it as being stressful as a result of how we have wired our brain to view it. I may not be able to conclude this, watch out for Part 1b.

If u are Christian u need to remember.

Revelation 13 (KJV)
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

This is the system for the Anti-Christ's system is going to be based on the internet!
If u dont have his name, u can't log on and hence cant buy or sell.

Why do u think everything is being pushed to the web?
So wetin make we do now? U Berra embrace this technology innovation now with this your stone-age illustrations.

The problem is who is taking the bulk of the profit?! Uber takes in money, Facebook from advertising and same as Google. Capital flight leaving the country in billions of dollars. Was it really difficult for all these people graduating from Andela to trail uber ? Took taxify years to step in and they've established themselves and still taking the profit to small Estonia.
You hear the programmers beating their chest and you think they are colonizing Jupiter already. No legislation because leaders cant swe the future. Those with enough money to bootstrap people with the ideas are rather employing miscreants to take pictures of them while gallivanting here and there from one man's built city and airline business.
We are in a long ride in this country. It will be for the longest of times.

By the way, there is nothing free. It has it's own price that mostly silly people don't even care to ask. Your information is for sale and anyone with access to that network can be malicious. Stay safe people, the only American you can trust is the one unborn.

It's called business.
I know my friends in Estonia making money also, they send it back home.

Stop all these mentality. Money must always change hands. Open your own taxify also if you don't want money to leave Naija.

with our decaying moral standards, a free public WiFi will do more harm than good. Google WiFi isn't free in USA, its so to cut excesses and its used as last gasp options, but trust me in naija, kids and even non-resourceful dults won't stay at home anymore! sexuality (porn) will be on the increase, upcoming yahoo boys will have an ever ready network to bomb from.

Who tell u say na free? Bro, even in free town nothing is free.u think say dem stupid ni? They preferred making the internet opened and public so as to get info/ideas from smart/genius ones who can't afford full internet access to hint this ideas FOR FREE,than selling its services then BUYING this same ideas from the rich smart/genius who already would have sold d same ideas to its rivals.
I could be wrong, but that's just wat I think.

I was elated to hear about the massive development.

I'm certain MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria & co. wont have a choice

but to throttle down their obnoxious data charges..

This is definitely a compensative measure after Google realized that

their AI lab should have been established in Lagos, Nigeria instead of Ghana.

Good news for Nigeria!

Tell, why should their AI lab be established in Nigeria instead of Ghana ??

Do you understand the internet and the Information Age at all??

Also what makes you think google wifi or what ever it is, will only be available to Nigeria ??

You don’t seem to get it, it’s not about Nigeria, internet technology does not revolve around Nigeria !! !

It’s all about how you take advantage of the technology Oyigbo is puting at your door step.

This technology is available to all!!

I once heard Google wifi isn't openly free in the states but it's the reverse here in Nigeria. People shouldn't complain about future job loss from our various network providers, because imagine Google spreading their tentacle all over the states, they're already a threat to them. We all know that someone somewhere is paying the bills and there are no free gifts.
Newton law states that for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction.

Job loose ke. Think job gains. Maybe hundred of people may loose their jobs. But many millions would have access to free unlimited data. Many new entrepreneur may spring up in the fallout.

Without google free WiFi retrenchment has been on the increase in Nigeria, and there have been serious "casualization" of staff especially in the telecom and banks.
People suggested we mete out sanctions against south africa-owned firms in Nigeria when there was high xenophobia on nigerians; people like you complained that people would be retrenched.
Do you know how much people pay for data they can't even use in Nigeria?
When it comes out don't use, abeg!

Exactly! No free gifts anywhere; even in Freetown

Nonsense talk.

Technology is all about moving up, innovating, getting better and faster delivery.

If you can't move up, you stay down or better still, you drop out.

If we were to go by your reasoning, we might as well still be stuck with those era of sending letters through post offices rather than making simple phone calls simply because we don't want the post masters to lose their jobs.

Don't mind all those backward thinking people.

They will tell you all the problems associated with a situation and scare you with all imaginable conspiracy theories they can come up with but they will never give you even one solution out of the problem/s.

History has taught us that the western world don't give anything out for free.... The same way they came with the Gospel of Christ, claiming it was for free, then it turned into something else... GOOGLE WIFI isn't free in the state , Why is it here? Question we should be asking ourselves... And that aside, google and facebook especially have being charged several times for selling and giving out people's private datas.. And also storing it to the united states government data file.. Why should one trust anything free from google... Even to be born again isn't free. You will have to sacrifice your old life if you want to live a new life with christ.... Nothing in this life is absolutely free.. There's always a price to pay... Either hidden or visible..... Yes technology has brought us this far, but at the same time, technology will be the downfall of Man... You don't have to agree with me... Good day..
