A Nigerian lawmaker has broken his arm in a scuffle in the National Assembly.

Solomon Ahwinahwi is part of a group of Representatives trying to force the Speaker to step down.

He was injured when a fight broke out after supporters of the Speaker tried to file a counter-motion to suspend them from the House of Representatives.

Another Representative, Doris Uboh, was also injured. Mr Ahwinahwi was treated at a National Assembly clinic before being taken to hospital.

The BBC's Mohammed Aba in Abuja says police tried to detain two photographers who had taken pictures of the clash but they were eventually freed.

He says the group trying to oust Speaker Oladimeji Bankole are known as the Progressives. They are from the ruling People's Democratic Party.

Nigerian politics is in a state of flux after the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua in May.

It remains unclear whether his successor Goodluck Jonathan will contest elections due early in 2011.

Armed robbers always fight for who gets the largest portion of their loot. . .

What are the differences between armed robbers and members of the national house of assembly?

1. Assembly members can rob Nigerians with impunity under the law they created without being persecuted, whilst the armed robber bribes the police so as to not get caught and persecuted.

. . . I am sure there are more differences, NL's can suggest, so we are not so supprised that these goons are shameless.

Nigeria still calls this democracy. Democracy without free speech right inside the aren where the law of free speech are made? If there is no free speech ina legislative chamber, how can there be one outside it? Nigeria police doing what they do best, a lackey of anyone in power.

Just because some members made an allegation against the speaker and his response, was to suspend them until further notice?
However, Bankole has forgotten that those people he is suspending are there to represent a people just like him representing his own people.

None of them came to that house as a speaker but rather a member representing a segment of what they called a country, so what right has excess lips from Ogun state and his follow-follow Agbero members got to suspend another member who has not been convicted of any crime just that he made allegation against you, which is been investigated by the authorities.

When IBB said that the young generation of Nigeria are as useless as those of their grandfather like him, everybody lambasted him for his comments, but Bankole is a good example of the useless young generation. Bankole is a typical embodiment of Nigeria-Opportunist, EXCESSIVENESS, Corrupt and a dictatorial power drunkard.

In a true democratic setting, Bankole should allow those men to express their opinion, irrespective that they are talking about him. Since he claimed to have the support of majority of them, he should even allow the impeachment process to go ahead and then silence his opponents through a democratic process game of numbers, but he resorts to intimidation and violence.
