Jones Abiri Released After Two Years, Should He Sue The Government? by nnaemeka38(m): 4:32am On Aug 16, 2018 |
Nigerian journalist and Editor in Chief of the Weekly Source Newspaper, Jones Abiri has been released from detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) on August 15, 2018. Jones Abiri was arrested by DSS officials on July 21, 2016, in Bayelsa State, and was accused of being a militant, who is interested in blackmailing international oil companies for pecuniary gain. Ever since his arrest, Jones Abiri has been denied access to his wife and five children! In fact, he was never allowed to see anyone. Frankly, many Nigerians thought he was dead until the DSS produced him in court in 2018! The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), as well as several other bodies and individuals in and outside the country, have been clamoring for his release, using social media advocacy. When Jones Abiri appeared in an Abuja court in August 2018, the DSS could not bring a single witness against him, a pointer to the fact that the charges against him are trumped-up! Should he sue the government for wasting two years of his life? http://lingoafrica.com/jones-abiri-released-after-two-years-should-he-sue/

Jones Abiri was arrested by DSS officials on July 21, 2016, in Bayelsa State, and was accused of being a militant, who is interested in blackmailing international oil companies for pecuniary gain. If he is innocent , he should get a good lawyer and sue the government. Luckily for him this government doesn't interfere with the judiciary. He should just be careful and not just let some people push him to prison again. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. Once more he should go ahead and sue.......IF HE IS INNOCENT. We Say No to Injustice. 17 Likes 4 Shares |

post=70316991:. Your tomfoolery knows no bounds. What do you mean by "If he is innocent"? Who decides innocence or guilt, is it not the court? If he is guilty, why didn't the DSS provide sufficient evidence in court to ensure his conviction? So why are you inserting that extremely repugnant and provocative proviso - "If he is innocent"? Nothing less than electric shock therapy will be enough to reformat the dead cells in your brain.. 50 Likes 5 Shares |

Without doubt. Every Nigerian illegaly detained by the State needs to be released or processed in accordance with the rule of law. There’s no point release one and holding on to another. Yes there need to be a balance between freedom and national security but not at the expense of constitutional order. Osinbajo’s professional effect must’ve be made fully impactful on the state. 1 Like |
