13 pass Imo’s 10,000 jobs test

Results of the aptitude tests for the 10,000 jobs organized for unemployed youths by Imo State government have been released with only 13 applicants passing the test.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy Dr. Kelechukwu Okpalaeke announced this at a news conference in Owerri yesterday after an executive council meeting held at Government House.

He said out of the 19,000 graduates that sat for the aptitude tests, only 13 passed by scoring above 80 per cent while the rest scored below 40 per cent.

The commissioner said considering the poor results, government resolved to bring down the score to 40 per cent in order to accommodate more people.

He said the interview for the successful ones would be conducted in the state by the Civil Service Commission in collaboration with the technical committee with detailed briefing by consultants. He expressed shock that in an examination of 19,000 graduates only 13 could scored above 80 per cent, adding that the situation on ground spoke volumes on the state of education in Imo State.

He said the state would not go anywhere with kidnapping and armed robbery if youths do not go to school. The commissioner further disclosed the resolve by government to retire 14 serving permanent secretaries under the current down seizing exercise in the state ministries.

He said the exercise was targeted at ensuring that those due for retirement give way for the younger ones and to sanitize the ministries for better performance.

Wasn't this some scam by the state. They charged 2000 naira and they had 19000 applicants and only 13 passed. They would make 38 million naira and employ a paltry number of people. Isn't this just pathethic??

This is highly ridiculous. How can 13 out of 19000 pass an aptitude test. They should have just allowed them use the 3000 naira to start a little business instead os scamming them of the little they have.

so basically the Commissioner is telling the world his government and the previous Govt have failed in terms of education

so what incentives do those 13 get for passing with the original pass mark? quota-system re-defined

The problems I see are as follows:

Possible high numbers of illiteracy or semi-illiteracy?

Poorly organised marking scheme approach

Ploy to cheat people out of their money?

As it stand, I will go with the last two options. there is no way 9987 people who can write their own names, read instructions, desperate for jobs etc will fail an aptitude test. Jesus freaking hell.

When there is a high number of failure, then something is fundamentally wrong somewhere.

Gosh, even NASA exam do not have such failure rates. Jeez.

Like someboby said, something is fundamentally wrong with Nigeria not just Imo State. Jobseekers these days prefer to go the Naija Way than read, because one will read his brain out and will not succeed while another will contact his connections (godfathers) and he is there even without writing any test. Who is to blame? The government is only harvesting what it planted--Garbage In, Garbage Out.

I pray that the government  do us a favour by revealing the list of those who will finally get the job and the name of their godfathers.

By the way, why must applicants pay as much as N2,000 to apply for job? Silly lots  angry.

This was definitely some scam. Notice how the commissioner quickly covers the Education side by claiming the state equipped all the candidates with some of the best education in the nation(which I believe is phooey by the way).

Wonder what is next. Only one candidate out of the selected 13 will pass the interview? But the man goes on to add making 10000 jobs available for youths as an accomplishment to woo gullible folks out therecheesy

The truth is that this is another of Ohakims scams. The state really has only 13 jobs to offer, but ended up scamming 19,000. Where is the EFCC when you need them?! sad angry

I bet you they set a PH.D grade exam for mere first degree holders knowing there is no way they can score above the ridiculous pass mark of 80%.

Ohakim the 419 king! angry angry angry

How can 13 people score over 80% and the rest below 40%. He meant no one scored between 40% and 80%?

Nigeria sets a statistics record once again

Nice observation. I saw it and was wondering why they insinuated no one had scores between 40-80%.
13 people score 80-100%. Nobody scores 40-80|%. Then, 18,887 people score 0-40%.
The whole thing is creepy jare.

while I disagree with this figure, I am convinced that most graduates coming out of our institutions are half baked. two instance , the percentage of candidates who passes my firm's recruitment exams is less than 10% every time, also its been proven by the oil and gas  industry that an average  nigerian graduate is not employable (does not possess the basic skill). year in year out I come across Corpers serving in my firm who cant even communicate in an acceptable manner. I think its a nigerian factor, poor government, poor educational system, poor infrastructure, poor basic needs of life. Its just a subset of the whole picture. God really need to intervene in our case.
