Demolition Of Fresh FM House, Result Of Arrogance And Unprofessionalism. by fuke(m): 6:36pm On Aug 20, 2018
There is no way you can explain and justify the demolishing of Fresh FM house at this point in time or anytime for that matter. It is a station that enjoys the patronage of the populace and by the last time I checked, it was number 2 in oyo state in terms of listeners.

Add that to the fact that this is a product of one man’s struggle and a physically challenged man for that matter from a very humble beginning providing direct and indirect employment to people.

And for a government seeking people’s votes in a couple of months, this action is politically incorrect. It is tantamount to political suicide. Then you ask yourself, why would a government seeking election in February want to commit political seppuku.

There is so much we don’t know.

One young man said something on Nairaland that I will never forget. He said there are always three sides to a case, the two sides and the truth.

Both sides have stated their cases but the truth is somewhere in between and we may never know it.

Its like a couple fighting over sex, neither will mention that word. This is about ego. Eni to ba ni kilama se, ohun la nse han.

Government says the building is being used for what it is not meant for. It contravenes town planning laws and that there is a mast there that was not in the building plan and finally government asked them to represent the plan for approval which Aiyefele refused to do,

Aiyefele says the house was approved,(he didnt say it was approved as a broadcastin station} and that if it was not approved, why did the governor and information commissioner attended interviews in the broadcasting house.

What a reasoning. This, in addition to the statement issued earlier by the General Manager made me suspect unprofessionalism. We will come to that later.

If your pregnancy is by your mother’s male’s friend, the fact on the ground is that the husband of your mother is your father but that is not the truth. Your father is outside that house.

The question is this. Is the government right to demolish this house or not? Yes, the government is right going by the law as required notices have been given, but talking of morality, in omoluabi parlance, using compassion and sentiment, we say the government is wrong.

Now, in law, you may get judgement but not justice.

For example, a dancer without O level wants to be governor and the judge says he doesn’t have to pass the examination and all he has to do is to show that he attended a secondary school. We all know, this is wrong but there is nothing we can do. That is the law. That is judgement without justice.

We said a man embezzled millions of Naira and the judge fined him N750,000. His friend pays the fine and the man goes home to enjoy his loot. That is judgement not justice.

This issues has been on since 2016 what has Fresh FM done about it? The issue was raised months ago, what did Fresh FM do about it? When it got really hot few weeks ago and the government was given notices and making statements, what did Fresh FM do about it?

They only came out the day the government gave the date of demolition. Instead of tackling problems, Nigerians wish them away.

In the press statement by the manager he was inviting people to come and watch the ‘demolition of Fresh FM house tomorrow’. What unprofessionalism? What an affront? No PR firm would have issued that kind of statement.

Yinka Ayefele’s release the following day was even worse. In very bad English, he was indirectly saying the information commissioner was not thinking straight and why would the government commend Fresh FM if the structure was not approved.

What a puerile agreement? From that moment I knew the house was gone.

We all know you can run a broadcasting station from a vehicle, do we now allow every vehicle to be turned to a radio station?

At that stage, a good PR manager would not issue such a trepid and annoying statement. Instead, they would have issued a statement massaging the government ego and ask for little time to meet up. By doing that, you would have given the government a soft landing. You didn’t do that, instead you were the one flexing the mussels you don’t have.

After Adenuga met all the conditions for Glo and Obasanjo refused to approve it, he, backed by Awujale (one of the few people Obasanjo cannot look in the eyes) went to ambush him in France or somewhere in Europe. The story says Obasanjo stepped over a prostrating Adenuga without as much as acknowledging his greeting. Nothing spoil, he got is license and that is what matters.

To get Licence for First City Merchant Bank which is a behemoth today, Subomi Balogun and his wife had to ambush our no 2 man then, Ahkiomu in a cathedral in Lagos.

We call it tact, even Jesus with all his power used it.

See Mathew 17 : 27 “But so that we may not offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for you and Me.” The important part is ‘so that we may not offend them’ Remember as omo onile, both Peter and Jesus were not supposed to pay tax but they did pay to please the authority. See verse 26.

Since this issue started, where were Fresh FM lawyers? They probably got one only after the demolition notice. If they have retained a lawyer, they would have gotten a judgement to defer action on this matter. Now they went to court, when it was already too late only to get a pronouncement and not a judgement. They are yet to serve the court papers to the government. Tardy, very tardy.

The government quickly went into action before the judgement is given and now, no judge will give an order in futility as the house is already down, Case closed.

What about omoluabi angle? They say Ajimobi is stubborn but he still has some people he cannot dare. Some people he will do a wrong to please. We all have them including the president, some people you cannot say no to. Did Aiyefele identify them and send them to the government when he knew he was on the wrong side of the law. He didn’t.

If Fresh FM has a management team consisting of an accountant, a retained lawyer and PR man, this disaster would have been averted. The management would have taken proactive actions to forestall this. Aiyefele is most likely running a one-man show, a typical Nigerian businessman.

The PR man would never have issued such puerile and arrogant statements that only exacerbated the case. The lawyer would have moved underground to set the system ready for a quick stay of action order. This is the unprofessionalism we talked about earlier on.

Nigerians believe you only need a lawyer when the police arrest you, not knowing you need a lawyer to avert arrests. They think, if I am doing this and I am making money, what are accountants and professional marketers for? They go get a cahier to receive money and pay to the bank and get sales people to pound the roads instead of a sound marketing plan using the 4 Ps in necessary mix.

If you read the statements from Fresh GM and his boss, both reeked and oozed arrogance. You would think they have the handle of the knife. No government will take that insolence.

So when I discussed this issue with a broadcaster and asked him why they did not handle this properly, his response did not surprise me.

He said their superiors told Aiyefele to go and appease the government, but his response left them with dropped jaws. According to the man, among some unprintable things, Aiyefele said Oun o le ma be olorun, koun tun ma be eniyan, meaning he cannot be begging God and be begging man.

You can now see who brought down the house.
