Why is Diwali Celebrated in India?
The Story Behind Deepavali Festival: The festival of Diwali falls about 18 days after the Dussehra Festival. It is believed in Hindu mythology that Diwali festival is celebrated so as to mark the return of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita with Lakshmana ji in Ayodhya. Rama and Sita were sent to jungle for 14 years (Vanvaas). And Lord Rama wins over the evil Ravana and returns back in Ayodhya. So, on the occasion of their returning back complete Ayodhya nagri was being decorated with earthern diyas and candles. Ayodhya became more beautiful and everyone was happy with the return of Lord Rama and Sitaji after 14 years of Vanvaas. Since then this festival is celebrated very year in the month of Autumn season. Jains also celebrate this day as it marks the final liberation of Mahavira. In the Diwali Puja people pray to God for their prosperity and good health and offer sweets and mewas to God. Diwali is a festival which is celebrated in all the houses whether they are rich or poor, this doesn’t matter.
