Why Are Our Nigerian Doctors Busy Engaging In Unnecessary Fights??? by Jman06(m): 1:40pm On Aug 21, 2018
My people have a story about a certain hunter who after a successful hunting in the bush was returning home with carcasses of giant animals he was able to kill in the bush, like elephants et al, on his head. Then on his way back, he came across a mushroom that was sprouting from the ground and tried to uproot it to add to the animals he already had on his head. Unknown to him the mushroom happened to be the very toxic type. So, on getting home, he asked his wife to prepare a meal with all the animals he killed, including the poisonous mushroom. That was how his entire household got killed after eating the meal.

The above story can be likened to the case of Nigerian medical doctors whose insecurities have caused to engage in unnecessary fights and professional rivalries with other healthcare professionals. Medicine is a very broad profession comprising several different specialties like O$G, cardiology, surgery (of different parts of the body), urology, family medicine, paediatrics to mention but a few. Any serious medical doctor can make a niche for himself in any of these numerous specialties, but Nigerian doctors would not! They would rather want to start dragging spaces with nurses, medical lab scientists, pharmacists, radiographers etc.
That is the ugly situation of things in our healthcare sector with the patients at the receiving end.
When their counterparts in the rest of the world are busy becoming experts in the different medical specialties, they are here engaging in fights that are totally uncalled for. My doc friends, please change for the good of our health sector and patients. Thanks as you change!
