To get back to six regional system as been cried for by the Afenifere, Ohaneze Ndigbo, and some so called Arewa leaders is a dead issue now. This was a case which was supposed to have been carried out far back 1963 but the NP C / NCNC Hausa_ Fulani/ IBO( I Before Others) collusion government refused to yield to the call demand , but now that we are divided into 36 nations called states they want to collapse the 36 nations called states into 6 states called regions. Let us look at it this way , most of these states with visionary leadership have been developing on their own with there own available resources why some others with vision less leaders which have made their states to be under developed despite their available resources. Now are they saying that going back to six regional system will solve the true togetherness when the visionary leader in a particular state will prefer to continue his own state development rather than regional development . Lets consider a case in point. The old western region now broken into Ogun, Oyo , Oshun , Ondo and Ekiti states with each states having their own programs on development and any attempt to bring them into one regional management will not go down well with some of the state governments as they believe it may retard their own development programs similarly other states in the regions may not be so happy to join with under developed states in their region which they believe attentions will only be focused in other states area thereby leaving their own area despite using their own resources. The politics of who to head regional government will be another serious issue to resolve.
True restructuring should be allowing the states independent control of their resources only to contribute an agreed percentage to the federal levels .
