Being a health practitioner myself, i can say most of what you said up there are true having also passed through some nonchalant attitude of some Nurses (in particular ). However u must also try to view thibgs from The Doctors point of view. Most hospitals are understaffed, un equipped and unfit for top services as compared to those outside the country. This doesn't give room for any lackadaisical attitude bt it sure foes have an effect on the Health workers too 6 Likes |

If you need someone to talk to, get a therapist. If you want a Dr to spend as much time with you, it's best you go to a good private hospital. They will give you your money's worth. When you go to a government hospital, their clinic time runs strictly on schedule. They cannot afford to stay longer than necessary in clinic as they have other responsibilities in the hospital. They still have their ward patients to look after, they have presentations to present to their peers and to also learn. Even abroad, you will be lucky if you get 15minutes with your Dr, except in countries like the US/Canada where you actually pay for the time or your insurance pays. Unlike other countries in Europe where their healthcare is almost free. In clinic, there are hundreds of patients waiting to see them, and you aren't the only one. I'm sure if the patient before you stays too long, you will still complain. and when its your own turn, you won't want to leave on time too. We all know once the time for clinic is over, they will leave. Do you want other patients after you not to be seen? 31 Likes 2 Shares |

Nigeria is a country where a doctor comes to your shop and you cheat him/her cos you think it is your right to collect more money from the doc. But when you are sick you start calling the doc on phone to treat you free. 25 Likes 2 Shares |

Lol! Amarabae, biko who suspended your brain? If you tell me the side effects of any treatment, I can opt out of it, or better still get ready for it. The op wanting to know anything about her own health is largely her right, as does anyone out there. Whichever medical practitioner that hoard information from patients is nothing but a murderer in the making, he or she is likely to kill them slowly. To the topic: Same thing happened to me within the last 2weeks, I fell sick very close to exams and I visited the school clinic, after dragging over 2hrs waiting at the lobby, I finally met a doctor who was nice, Dr. Shittu (whom have handled me before), he spoke with sensitive and knowledge to lemme know about my situation. I did test and returned the next day, I met another Doctor who just asked questions based on crammed symptoms and experience, I got drugs and took them, honestly, they didn't work. Rather, I felt nausea and extreme loss of energy and strength, I had to discontinue the drugs some days to my exams cos, I better manage myself than swallow drugs that can't cure what kept me sick. @MissJoy29 and everyone out there, medical practitioners are just largely ignorant most of the times, manner of speaking is not empathetic, consultation, empirical analysis of sickness have been misused by Nigerian health workers. My advice, when you visit the hospital, watch carefully how they behave to you, to avoid being treated for other health issues as another. 7 Likes 1 Share |

I haven't really had any bad experience with doctors, it's nurses that usually behave this way. 1 Like |

It is really a sad situation. I still remember the first and only time I visited UNTH, Enugu with my late brother. To do an x ray there was a herculean task. A colleague of mine once had an accident and was in the teaching hospital at Nnewi. I was shocked to see how dirty the toilet there was when I visited. The truth is that the quality of service in most of our hospitals is very poor. That is one of the reasons for the relatively low life expectancy in Nigeria today. 8 Likes |

Amarabae:are you kidding me?? Patients are like faulty cars and doctors like mechanic. Are you telling me that after a mechanic fixes your car, you don’t ask for the cause to avoid reoccurrence?? As a matter of fact, telling a patient the cause of his/her ailment should be the first thing a well trained doctor does even without being asked 8 Likes |

As for the attitude of doctors, the less said, the better. Everyone is blaming Buhari but in their own little corner, they can't be the positive change they seek. 7 Likes |

Amarabae:I have to say Ma, I'm very disappointed by this opinion of yours much so because I just lost someone very dear to me due mainly to doctors' incompetence. At the end of the day they still charged close to 1M on top person wey dem no save oo. I pray you don't have an experience such as mine... Finally, my guess is that you are in the Medical field. 7 Likes |

I Wonder why peeps are bashing amarabae. What she said largely applies in most of our settings. In as much as I do concede SOME docs can be arrogant prics, I think its important to appreciate the conditions under which they work, particularly those in public hospitals. If anything, I think your frustration should be channeled to the government of the day for neglecting the health sector as a whole. 9 Likes 1 Share |

The government is the cause, Imagine a country where doctors go on strike, NMA and Johesu are always at war for no rational cause, mind u even CMDs in those hospitals go abroad for sneezing. That's why it's not particular to just 1 hospital, when smth gets global then the central Power is at fault, plz direct your grievance to the government. And those doctors that attend to u can't wait to leave this Shiithole 1 Like |

MissJoy29 Nigerians are very religious not because they truly loved or want to serve God. It is simply the last thing to give them hope. Go to an hospital for treatment of leg injury. If you're very very lucky to live there alive. Be rest assured you will live with head, hand, back injuries. My sister went for typhoid treatment in a Federal Teaching Hospital. Guess what?! She ended up almost having a total ear damage occasioned by the doctors prescription. 5 Likes |
