Nobody prays to be involved in car accidents but not withstanding, car accident happen on our roads every day leading to loss of thousands of lives every year. Technology has advanced greatly in the automotive sector and lots of safety measures have been put in new cars to ensure safety and reduce mortality rate on the roads. In advanced countries, the safety rating of a car plays a huge role in a determining the type of cars buyers will buy but in Nigeria I doubt if buyers even consider the safety rating before buying a car. Every year lots of brand new cars go through crash tests to determine their level of safety and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) carry out these crash tests and rate these cars. I will compile my list based on the popular cars on Nigerian roads as there are other cars who passed the test but not so popular in Nigeria.

I think the title should be "Safest Cars of 2018 Based On IIHS Test Ratings".


Finally, "safe" is a relative word. ONLY GOD can save. People die even when their armoured cars, with several airbags and safety features, are involved in severe accidents.

Virtually all d cars on Nigerian road have been mentioned. This looks like trash.

Op your indices for calculating the safest cars are not adapted for Nigerian roads. Its not just about crashing when you're driving in Nigeria, it's also about potholes, swampy roads and high culverts.
