Omokri said he suspects the payment of highly expensive dowry to be the reason behind less divorce cases in the eastern part of the country.

He wrote on Twitter, “Many people condemn the Igbo culture of very heavy dowry and see it as excessive materialism, but I beg to differ. Study Igbo marriages. Amongst Nigerians, Igbos have the least incidence of divorce. The basis, I suspect, is that how do you spend so much to marry and then divorce?”
