World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by Fhemmmy: 2:51pm On Jun 30, 2010
6 teams represented Africa in 2010 World Cup
3 had no point at all.
Only 1 made it to the rounds of 16.

So why the waste of space in the world cup, if they cant perform?

So why the waste of space in the world cup, if they cant perform?

1. Only Cameroon failed to get a point out of the 6 African contenders.

2. Europe had 13 spots; only 6 went through to the 2nd round. Should Europe be allowed 13 teams in 2014? When we know that their success ratio this year was less than one out of two. . . Sure, Africa's ratio is lower but here the number of teams representing the continent should be seen as more relevant than the ratio. Africa only has 1 chance out of 4 to see one of its contenders to go through to the next round. Europe has a 50% chance. Those things should be taken into account.

FIFA came to that decision to spice up the diversity of World Cup Teams and present some sort of representation globally.

Africa and African Teams are rich with talent (that is not in doubt) but have failed to consistently live up to her expectations. but the same can be said for European, Asian and South American teams, performance has slipped gradually and the World Cup is not as enthralling and pregnant with excitement as it used to be, Howmany still remember Italia 90, I can vividly remember the Finals till to this day or USA 94 or Atlanta 96 from there on it has been downhill.

Yes Africa has made a hash of the slots, It even looks bad because our usually adept North Africans also paled-out early.

I am thinking 4 Slots to shoot-up the in-continent competition  grin
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by Fhemmmy: 4:02pm On Jun 30, 2010
But America and the North America is only given like 3 spots, i think, so how fair is that?

Africa failed woefully with all the talents that we have, i just kinda think something has to be done about all these.
Cos the fun of the game should be more important that the politics that comes with it as well
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by Fhemmmy: 8:46pm On Jun 30, 2010
They should give africa only 3 teams . . . . grin
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by dayokanu(m): 9:05pm On Jun 30, 2010
In France 98- Africa had 5 slots, only one made it to the second round
In Japan 2002- Africa had 5 slots, Only one made it to second round
In Germany 2006- Africa had 5 lots, Only 1 made it to the second round
Even in SA 2010 - Africa had 5 slots, Only 1 made it to second round

Reduce Africa to 3 and give the rest to South America and others
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by mensdept: 9:11pm On Jun 30, 2010
Are these opinions meant to enhance African teams performances?

By giving Africa 3 spots doesnt solve the fundamental issues African FA's are having.
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by CLT123(m): 10:02pm On Jun 30, 2010
I dont know why people are saying give 2 of African spots to Asia or North America. Would you rather watch Cameroon or Trinidad & Tobago. Would you rather watch Nigeria or Saudi Arabia. Just face Africa had a bad World Cup but they are clearly the 3rd best FIFA region in the world.

Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by dayokanu(m): 10:51pm On Jun 30, 2010
South America. They deserve more

Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and uruguay in quarters.

CHile was eliminated by another SOuth American team
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by CLT123(m): 11:48pm On Jun 30, 2010
South America has only 10 teams in their region. If you give them 2 spots then that is 7/10 teams going to the world cup from south america
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by dayokanu(m): 11:53pm On Jun 30, 2010
Does that matter? How many countries are in Asia and how many slots do they have.

The South American have proven that they have a better mastery of the game.

Well I guess it's okay if you want to see Bolivia at the Word Cup

Meaningless argument.
FIFA says they're not reducing the slots. Sorry to disappoint una.

Europe: Number of countries = 50
world cup slots = 13

Africa: Number of countries = 54
world cup slots = 5

North : Number of countries = 23
America/ world cup slots = 3
CONCACAF

Asia : Number of countries = 47
world cup slots = 4

South america : Number of countries = 12
world cup slots = 4

1 slot for host
1 slot for CONCACAF/South America Play off
1 slot for Oceania/Asia Play off.

i guess this will give you a clear picture of what the world cup set up looks like.
cheers!

N/B : CONCACAF = Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football

South America and Asia deserve 1 more spot each

3 spots is enough for Africa.

Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by bisiaet: 1:29pm On Jul 01, 2010
The 6 slot given to Africa is enough for now because it'S of no meaning adding more team for world cup and nothing to show for it the few we have that represent Africa in 2010 I can not see their impart, all these guys are no longer ready for soccer all they want is just shopping. FIFA should keee that 6 slots for now till may be possibly increase it if things turn around in the nearest future.
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by Kgdavid(m): 1:41pm On Jul 01, 2010
if fair is fair then africa should be stripped of one place and it should be then given to south america, to illustrate my point, how many south american teams made it to the knockout phase? all five of them! of these five how many made it to the quaterfinals? four of them(which was the maximum possible as two south americans faced off against each other i.e brazil and chile) so if the south americans have done so brilliantly and african has done so poorly, why should we continue to be on the same quota as they are?

What has Asia done to deserve one more spot?
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by dayokanu(m): 3:24pm On Jul 01, 2010
2 out of 4 Asian countries made it to second round

In the history of the world cup, African has never had 2 teams in the second round before
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by dayokanu(m): 3:26pm On Jul 01, 2010
Well I guess it's okay if you want to see Bolivia at the Word Cup

Bolivia would have done better than Nigeria who was last in their groups, Cameroun who had 0 points in 3 games, Algeria who was last in their groups

Zaire who broke the world record for highest loss margin in the world cup etc
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by soarrogant(m): 3:46pm On Jul 01, 2010
so africans are advocating for reduction of spots by about 2! is this real? is it worth holding this discussion with you low-lifes who prefer what is not yours to yours!! hey if you like fairness so much, how about starting with advocacy for an end to the raping of africa's resources, maybe something there for you to do!

You dont know what your talking about. Bolivia sucks. If you replaced Nigeria with Bolivia in our group they wouldn't even score a goal. Nigeria would have made it to the round of 16 if it wasn't for Kaita. Asian teams do not have the quality of African teams. How many Asians do you see playing in Europe. Before this year what has Japan or any other Asian team done in the world cup? That South Korea run in 2002 was a fuke. They had homefield. North Korea lost 7-0 to Portugal. Saudi Arabia lost 8-0 to Germany in 2002. I bet you think those teams are better than Nigeria.

African teams have proven they can beat top Europeans or South American teams. Asians have not.
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by sley4life(m): 4:05pm On Jul 01, 2010
FIFA should reduce our slot yet. They should give us 1 more chance. Instead players like Yak & Kaita should be expelled from their National team

FYI, Bolivia beat Argentina 6-1 in qualifiers

If you replaced Nigeria with Bolivia in our group they wouldn't even score a goal. Nigeria would have made it to the round of 16 if it wasn't for Kaita.

So wetin concern anybody if na Kaita wreck Naija football, vs Korea we needed a win we couldnt get it.

Asian teams do not have the quality of African teams.

What do you mean by this? When they have 2 teams in second round.

How many Asians do you see playing in Europe.

So what does this count for? Pele never played in Europe a lot of those Paraguayan and Chilean players dont even play in Europe yet they made it from their group. Even South Africa had a lot of players who dont play in Europe and they performed better than Nigeria with 100% European based footballers.

Before this year what has Japan or any other Asian team done in the world cup? That South Korea run in 2002 was a fuke. They had homefield.

Japan got to the second round in 2002, Korea got to the semi finals. Home field? Didnt South Africa have home field advantage?

You know South Africa was the first host to be knocked out of first round in World cup History? Another Shame!!!

North Korea lost 7-0 to Portugal. Saudi Arabia lost 8-0 to Germany in 2002. I bet you think those teams are better than Nigeria.

The world record of 9-0 stil belongs to Africa, Have you forgotten Russia beating Cameroun 6-0 in USA 1994?

African teams have proven they can beat top Europeans or South American teams. Asians have not.

Korea beat Spain, Portugal and Italy in 2002 even North Korea once beat Italy in the world cup
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by CLT123(m): 4:48pm On Jul 01, 2010
^^Do you love watching crap Asian teams for some reason?

Besides South Korea in 2002. No Asian team has ever passed the round of 16 after FIFA expanded the world cup to 24 teams?

Infact how many Asian teams have even made it to the second round?
Re: World Cup 2010 - Should Africa Be Allowed 5 Teams In 2014? by dayokanu(m): 4:56pm On Jul 01, 2010
Despite that Africa has always had a larger representation than Asia we have never played the semi finals once

I love the brand of football Korea plays Did you watch them against Greece? Now compare our SUper Eagles to them.

2 out of 4 Asian teams made it from the groups.

1 out of 6 African teams made it from the groups. In a tournament held on African soil and with homefield and fan advantage

Do the Maths
