EFFECTS OF CHEMICALS IN FOODS AND THE WAY THEY HARM THE BODY AND CAN LEAD TO MENTAL ILLNESS
The rate at which chemicals are used in foods lately is highly alarming.
This chemicals are mostly found in processed foods and they cause lots of havoc to human health.
Chemicals found in this foods are preservatives, sweeteners, artificial colour or dyes, Synthetic trans fats.
Preservative are used to make processed foods last longer, which when we consume these processed foods it tends to cause serious health issues which might not surface abruptly but with time it gets obvious and we begin to suffer it.
Preservative such as nitrites and sulfites in processed foods tend to inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
Nitrites are used in processed meats and fish to prevent bacterial growth. Your body converts this nitrites to carcinogenic substances called nitrosamines which increases the risk of stomach cancer, While sulfites are used to preserve dried fruits, fruit juices, wine and beer may increase the risk of asthma attacks.
Synthetic trans fats-.
Synthetic trans fats are found in margarine, vegetable shortening and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils.

These synthetic trans fats have been linked to stroke, cancer, diabetes, decreased immune function, reproductive problems, heart disease and more.
Eating sweetened foods and beverages has been identified as the cause of any number of negative health prospects, including being obese, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
Eating sweetened foods also comes with some side effects such as;
Abdominal and joint pains.
Change in vision.
Nausea and vomiting.
Insomnia / sleep problems.
Change in heart rate.
Elaborating more on the health problems this chemicals cause.
There are other health problems which this chemicals cause which if i don’t list and elaborate on them, then this article won’t be actually complete and accurate.
Others health problems such as;
The sodium and nitrate used as preservatives in processed foods are highly surplus, so it tends to increases the blood pressure of our body which then damage the blood vessels.
Some preservatives in foods do not allow you to resist the temptation to eat more which not only eat more is the issue but consuming mass amount of sugar and saturated fats which the food contains leads to obesity.
Phosphate is one of the additives added to foods we consume in order to enhance their taste and texture. The surplus amount of phosphate in these foods leads to kidney problems.
One of the harmful effects of food preservatives is chronic inflammation, resulting in various respiratory and neurological problems.
Processed food has preservatives and artificial enhancers in excess which causes the formation of cancerous cells in our body.
Processed foods contain refined fructose, which directly goes to your liver and stores there. This damages your liver as much as alcohol or other toxins do.
How this chemicals could lead to mental illness
The kind of food we eat affect the brain postively or negatively.
The brain takes care of your thoughts and movements, your breathing, heartbeat and your senses.it works hard 24/7, even while you’re asleep.
The brain requires a constant supply of fuel. This fuel comes from the foods you eat.
The brain can be damaged if you ingest anything other than real goods foods.
Diets high in refined sugars(sweetner), preservatives, artificial colour and synthetic trans fats are harmful to the brain and even can worsening symptoms of mood disorders, such as depression, anxiety levels and stress.
How you can avoid this harmful chemicals in your foods
*Limit your rate of consuming canned foods or stop in total as this canned foods are high in preservative in order to stay quite longer.
*Choose organic for all your dairy, fresh fruit and veggies.
*Stay away From BPA
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical compound found in some hard plastic products such as baby bottles, water bottles, and hard plastic cookware. Use glassy ones.
*Lower your intake of processed carbohydrates.
*Read food labels to check our ingredients such as artificial food colorings, dyes, BHT and BHA, monosodium glutamate (MSG), and artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharin.
*Buy leaner cuts of meat, trim the fat from meats, and choose non-fat milk.
