Minimum Wage: Expect N100,000 From 2019, Sowore Tells Workers by ManirBK: 10:12pm On Sep 12, 2018
Mr Omoyele Sowore, a presidential aspirant of African Action Congress (AAC), says he will ensure civil servants in the country receive N100,000 as minimum wage from 2019 if he is elected Nigeria’s president.

Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by the party in Badagry, Sowore said Nigerians were indirectly going into slavery by traveling to different countries in search of jobs.

He noted that over 43 million black Africans were sold into slavery in the coastal city about 400 years ago, a development he said was still happening indirectly because of lack of job.

“I am in politics to stop this by providing 500,000 jobs yearly.

“The minimum wage for civil servant will be N100,000 from 2019,” he said.

Sowore regretted the poor state of roads in the country and describing the Lagos-Badagry expressway as the worst in Nigeria.

The presidential aspirants said the historic town had been cut off from the rest of the country due to deplorable state of the expressway.

“I have traveled all over Nigeria, but I have not seen any international expressway like Lagos-Badagry.

“We spent almost five hours coming here instead of one and half hours.

“Badagry town has been cut-off from Nigeria due to deplorable state of the road.

“This is very shameful,” the presidential aspirant said.

He promised to construct two expressways from Badagry to Lagos, and another one linking Badagry and Ogun State if elected into power in the 2019 general elections.

Sowore urged the residents of Badagry to vote wisely for candidates of their choice.

“I heard now that politicians are buying Permanent Voters Card (PVC) for N10,000. Please don’t sell your PVC; the PVC is your future.

“Can you do any business with N10,000? They will buy your card; your future is your PVC; keep it,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by a large number of youths in the coastal town.(NAN)

This guy should know that what Nigeria needs is good monetary and fiscal policies that will reduce inflation and add value to the naira not salary increase, what if he increases salaries to 100k minimum and a loaf of bread becomes 2k.

His foray into politics is really exposing his inadequacies and shallowness

Sowore, stop with the fairytale.

Whatever you are promising is stupid and sorry, I even thought you would bring up smart ideas instead of all these false promises.

This would just make Nigeria a consuming economy and lead to an inflation. We need to increase production not all your bullshit.

Besides, there are so many reduntant staffs, Ill trained and lazy workers in the civil service including ghost workers and you just want to up their pay.

It would just be a case of more money chasing few goods. Then there would be a demand for another increase in wage. The bitter truth is we are a consuming nation, the earlier we realise our problems do not stem from low minimum wage but being less productive, the better for us.

I do not still see Sowore as serious in 2019. He may be testing the political waters with this campaign in preparation for 2023.

Meanwhile, Buhari promised more than this in 2015 and what happened?

100k MW?
500k jobs?

How does he hope to achieve this?

What laid out plans does he have to achieve this or was he just quoting impressive figure to entertain his fans?

What economic blueprint does he have to ensure the 100k is adequately sustained?

How does he ensure the governors, senate and HOR members accept and comply to this?

How does he hope to create 500k jobs yearly?

Has he taken into consideration the adverse effects of the 100k minimum wage to our economy?

This man is just desperate, he has nothing to offer. I have never been in support of him. I have listened to most of the presidential aspirants, KINGSLEY MOGHALU clearly stands out amongst them. He already has laid out plans on how he hopes to effect positive change in Nigeria

Wow. Politicians have some much confidence in the gullibility of the masses. When I told people that he was playing the manipulative weed card like politicians in USA, people were arguing with me. I hope his #100k for minimum wage is an eye opener. If it's not then you are gullible or ignorant of Nigeria politics. #100k?
