Historically, Wukari has been the only multi-ethnic local government area in Taraba state today base on the towns and villages that make up Wukari Local Government include; Wukari, Auyi, Rafin Kada, Chonku, Gidan Idi, Arufu, Bantaje, and kuyu.

The headquarter of the Wukari Local Government are in the town of Wukari, located in the southern part of Taraba state bordering Benue state and with easy access to Plateau and Nassarawa states

The total estimated population of Wukari Local Government is put at 269,031 inhabitants, according to census records, with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Jukun ethnic affiliation.

The Jukun is the most popular spoken language in the Local Government while the religions of Christianity and Islam are well practiced in the community

Wukari Local Government, occupies a total area of 4308 square with this Wukari remain the backbone of the Taraba state in term of abundant timber production, agricultural produce and others solid minerals in the state

Wukari Local Government is strategically station in such a way that is link to other surrounding town (Takum, Donga, Ussa, Kurmi can easily link Wukari via the Wukari-Donga-Takum road while Plateau and Nassarawa states share boundary with Wukari,through Ibi road one can easily access the Benue, While the rest of Taraba is linked to Wukari through the Wukari-Jalingo road).
